Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936. It was formerly known as Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. TISS aims to be an institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities. TISS has its main campus situated in Mumbai along with three other campuses - TISS Hyderabad, TISS Guwahati, and TISS Tuljapur. TISS Mumbai comprises of two campuses- the Main Campus and the Malti and Jal A.D. Naoroji Campus Annexe — are both located in Deonar in the North-East Section of Greater Mumbai.
TISS Mumbai has been recognized by the University Grants Commission. TISS Mumbai has been accredited by NAAC. It is a Deemed to be University.
Most of the TISS courses are offered at its main Mumbai campus which include PG and Research programme in various disciplines.         Ans. NIRF has ranked XLRI in 9th and TISS in the 34th position for management studies in India, 2020. It must be noted that XLRI is specifically dedicated to management studies and is popular for it whereas TISS offers a wide range of courses across various streams. The tabulation below gives a short overview of both the B-Schools. Category XLRI TISS Total seats offered 120 120 Annual tuition fee 23.6 lakhs 1.05 lakhs Popular courses BM, HRM HRM Placement rate 100% 100% Highest package 58.5 LPA 32.79 LPA Average package 26 LPA 21.15 LPA Admission: XLRI: XLRI conducts the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) every year in the month of January which is followed by group discussion and personal interview rounds for admission. 95% is the cutoff for male candidates to join the BM program whereas 93% in the case of females for the same. For the HRM courses, 93% and 91% are the cutoffs for male and female candidates respectively. TISS: Aspirants must clear the entrance exam of TISS for management courses i.e; TISSNET upon which they will be selected for the PI round. Cutoff for HRM program for general and OBC categories are 74 and 67 respectively. Placement statistics: XLRI: The batch of 2020 recorded 100% placement with 362 overall domestic and international offers. The average CTC was recorded to be 26 LPA whereas the highest package was 58.5 LPA. Sales & marketing and BFSI were the top sectors where students were placed. 17% of these roles constituted students from Business Management. TISS: IBM, Amazon, TCS, Reliance Jio, Accenture, Tech Mahindra were the top recruiters of 2020. 100% of the students were placed with the median CTC of 21.15 LPA. The best CTC offered this year was 32.79 LPA. The majority of the students got placed under the FMCG sector. All students of batch 2020 availed summer internship opportunity with an average stipend of 1.2 lakhs per month. Both XLRI and TISS are top-notch B-schools in terms of exposure, crowd, curriculum.         Ans. XLRI, TISS, SCMHRD, and SIBM are counted amongst top institutes in terms of placements. However, if someone doesn’t make it through these institutes or wish to go for any other IIMs for HR, the candidates can seek admissions at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), or Indian Institute of Management (IIM Indore). Other than these two IIMs, the Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship Development (IMED) is also good for HR placement. Placements: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB): In terms of placements, IIMB is counted amongst the top B-schools in India. The institute has its Placement and Training Cell which bridge a gap between the industry and the students. It deals with seminars, workshops, internship programs to assist students in the placements. The placement record for the academic year 2019 was 100%. The average salary offered was INR 26 LPA and the median salary offered was INR 25 LPA. Top recruiters include Amazon, Accenture, Bain, and Company, McKinsey&Company, Microsoft, Aditya Birla Group, etc. Indian Institute of Management (IIM Indore): The placement cell of the institute invites numerous reputed companies for recruitment. Over 200 companies participated in the placement drive for batch 2018-2020. A total of 160+ placement offers were made while around 132 pre-placement were made. The highest domestic package offered was INR 50 LPA while the average package offered was INR 22.92 LPA and a median salary package offered was INR 22 LPA. The top recruiters include Asian Paints, Axis Bank, Deloitte, Cognizant, HSBC, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, IBM, and many more. Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship Development (IMED): The placement cell at IMED is highly active and dedicated. It is known as the ‘Corporate Resource Centre’ and to enhance job opportunities, it organizes activities like corporate day and certificate courses of executive excellence. Every year, over 150 companies participate in the placement drive. The placement record at IMED is 100%. For the MBA, the highest international package offered was INR 54.08 LPA; the highest domestic package offered was INR 18 LPA while the average salary was INR 7.5 LPA. Some of the top recruiters at IMED include ITC, Amazon, Aditya Birla, Reliance Industries Ltd, Kotak Mahindra, and ICICI Bank. IMED, IIMB, and IIMI also provide scholarships and state of the art facilities to the students.         Ans. XLRI, TISS, MDI, or SCMHRD are some of the reputed B-Schools of India. However, if one fails to get into these institutes of business management, they can apply for Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB), or ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education By the Outlook ICARE University Ranking 2020, XUB is ranked 10th amongst the top 50 Private State Universities in India, and XUB has again been awarded Eduniversal Masters Ranking 2019 as India’s 2nd Best MBA-HRM Program. On the other hand, ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad is ranked in the band of 71-75 by India University Rankings and 301-350 by BRICS Ranking. Admission: Admissions at the XUB are based on the valid score of X-GMAT/CAT/XAT/NMAT/GMAT and have an eligibility of a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years duration with 55% marks. Admissions at IFHE Hyderabad are based on a valid score of CMAT/XAT/CAT, with the eligibility of a graduate degree in any discipline. Facilities: XUB offers various facilities such as a library, Xavier Campus Cloud and Data Center, Graphic Lab, auditorium, hostel, wifi Facilities, medical Help, center for sports, and fitness. IFHE has classrooms equipped with modern visual aids, a library, hostels, outdoor sports facilities, a transport facility. Placements: Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB): Placement training is provided to the students through group discussions, internships, and workshops. 100% placement has been achieved by the university for its MBA program. For MBA in human resource management, a total of 111 students participated in the placement and around 32 companies participated in the placement drive. The highest CTC offered for HRM was INR 22.47 LPA and the average CTC offered was INR 12.87 LPA. Top recruiters include TCS, Capgemini, Accenture, Cognizant, and many more. IFHE, Hyderabad: To recruit the students, top companies visit the campus of IFHE, and it has also achieved a perfect record in terms of placements. To enhance the employability of the students, expert talks, and training for technical and soft skills are organized. For final placements 2020, the Hyderabad campus had a 93% placement percentage. The highest international CTC was INR 50.23 LPA and the highest domestic CTC offered was INR 15.89 LPA. The average CTC offered was INR 7.97 LPA. It has been ranked 9th by NIRF in the category Top B-Schools in India. The institute has tied up with various international universities for exchange programs. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a deemed university set up in Mumbai. The college has been accredited by NAAC and recognized by UGC. The college offers 60 courses across 14 streams. It has been ranked 34th by NIRF Rankings 2020.
