CU B.Sc CSM FAQs
Ques. Is the B.Sc. CSM program at Chandigarh University the same as a standalone B.Sc. in Statistics and Computer Science?
Ans. The B.Sc. (Hons./Hons. with Research) in Computer Science, Statistics and Mathematics (CSM) at CU is an integrated three-subject program. It is not a standalone Statistics and Computer Science course. The curriculum covers all three disciplines - Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics - in an integrated manner, with a Minor in Geo-Informatics. Students who want depth in only two subjects should note that CU does not offer a separate two-subject B.Sc. in Statistics and Computer Science; the CSM combination is the closest available option.
Ques. What is the difference between the B.Sc. (Hons.) and B.Sc. (Hons. with Research) tracks at CU?
Ans. Both tracks follow the same core curriculum for the first three years. The Hons. with Research track involves an additional research component in the final year, where students undertake a supervised research project or dissertation. This track is recommended for students who wish to pursue M.Sc. or Ph.D. programs after graduation. The Hons. track is more suitable for students targeting direct industry placements. The fee structure is the same for both tracks.
Ques. Is CUCET mandatory for admission to B.Sc. CSM, or can I get admission based on 12th marks alone?
Ans. CUCET is not strictly mandatory for admission to B.Sc. programs at CU, but it is mandatory to avail merit-based scholarships. Students who score above 90% in their 12th board exams are directly eligible for admission without CUCET. However, appearing in CUCET is strongly recommended as it can significantly reduce your fee burden - a score of 90.01% or above in CUCET can result in a 100% tuition fee waiver per semester.
Ques. What kind of jobs can I get after completing B.Sc. CSM from Chandigarh University?
Ans. Graduates of the B.Sc. CSM program are well-suited for roles such as Data Analyst, Business Analyst, Statistician, SAS Programmer, Analytics Consultant, Biostatistician, Web Developer, Database Administrator, and Software Programmer. Companies in IT, banking, insurance, market research, and securities sectors actively recruit CSM graduates. Based on placement records shared by the university, packages for CSM graduates have ranged from Rs. 4.8 LPA to Rs. 11 LPA, with top recruiters including Fractal Analytics, Innefu Labs, and others.
Ques. Can I apply for hostel accommodation after taking admission, or do I need to apply at the time of admission?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at CU is optional and not mandatory for the B.Sc. CSM program. You can apply for hostel at the time of admission or even after joining. The university has separate hostels for boys and girls with multiple room-type options ranging from 5-seater non-AC rooms (Rs. 1,20,000/year) to 1-seater AC rooms (Rs. 2,20,000/year). Ques. Is there any provision for education loans for the B.Sc. CSM program at CU?
