Anna University BE Printing Technology FAQs

Ques. Is TNEA the only route to join Anna University BE Printing Technology?

Ans. Yes, TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is the single admission channel for this programme. There is no management quota or NRI quota. Candidates are ranked purely on Class 12 PCM marks and participate in online counselling through tneaonline.org. Students from outside Tamil Nadu can apply under the Other State quota through a separate counselling window conducted by Anna University each year.

Ques. What career roles are available after BE Printing Technology from Anna University?

Ans. Graduates work as printing technologists, pre-press engineers, packaging engineers, and process supervisors. Industries that hire include commercial printing firms, FMCG packaging manufacturers, publishing houses, and print media companies. Roles in quality control, colour management, and procurement within the print supply chain are also open to graduates. The programme’s focus on production processes makes graduates well suited to plant-level and supervisory roles.

Ques. Can students from outside Tamil Nadu apply for this programme?

Ans. Yes, through the Other State (OS) quota. Since the Printing Technology branch intake is below 75 seats, four OS seats are reserved with one seat per region. OS candidates are not part of the main TNEA counselling rounds. They must apply directly through the Anna University Centre for Admissions portal, which releases a separate OS notification each year. Selection is merit-based on Class 12 aggregate marks, similar to TNEA.

Ques. What is the hostel fee for BE students at Anna University?

Ans. Anna University provides separate boys and girls hostels with annual fees up to INR 78,700. Hostel accommodation is optional and subject to seat availability at the time of joining. Students are advised to apply for hostel allocation early, as seats are limited and allocated on a first-come basis after admission is confirmed.

Ques. Does Anna University conduct any entrance exam for BE Printing Technology admission?

Ans. No separate entrance exam is conducted. Admission is merit-based through TNEA, where candidates are ranked solely on their Class 12 PCM aggregate marks. A random number is used to resolve ties. No written test, group discussion, or interview is part of the process. Candidates register on tneaonline.org during the official window and participate in online counselling for seat allotment.

Ques. Can a BE Printing Technology graduate pursue M.Tech through GATE?

Ans. Yes, graduates can appear in the GATE Production and Industrial Engineering (PI) paper, which opens pathways to M.Tech programmes at NITs and IITs in printing technology and related fields. Some graduates also pursue M.Tech in Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering based on their GATE score and interests.

How is the material science program at Anna University?

Vishal BaglaPost Graduate Diploma in in Business Analytics, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2019)

Material Sciences in CEG started 9 years before and in such a short span it has gained recognition. It has made a significant contribution to the research of the country. The significance of the program has been described on the basis of the following aspects.

Research: Research is the most impressive feature of this course. The funding provided by the Center for Technology Development and Transfer during the third year is extremely helpful and encourages students to take up research.

Faculty: Although the faculty is extremely supportive, some of them lack specialization in materials science.

Course: The course has a variety of options for electives. It is extremely structured and moderate-paced.

Infrastructure: This is where the course lacks the most. It does not have a separate department and operates under the department of Mechanical Engineering. Also, there is a lack of equipment required for the course.

Alumni: The number of alumni is less as the course has recently started. But most of them are now working at extremely good universities around the world and India or are placed in very good companies (both in core materials science and IT).

Internships: CEG renders excellent exposure. A vast amount of undergrads perform research in various laboratories across the world during their second and third years. This helps in securing jobs in the future.
