AI-Generated Summary based on 11046 Reviews

Anna University offers admission to its B.Tech in Information Technology program primarily through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling process. Prospective students must have completed their 12th grade with high scores as eligibility is based on board exam marks. Cutoff scores typically range from 198 to 200 based on merit and available seats. Although no entrance exam is required, aspiring candidates should apply through the TNEA portal, selecting their preferred course and college.

Anna University Chennai: 10 Answered Questions

Does Anna University accept JEE Scores?

Aadya Rathi

No, Anna University does not accept JEE Main scores for its regular B.E./B.Tech admissions.

Anna University (including affiliated colleges in Tamil Nadu) admits students through:

  • TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) — purely based on Class 12 PCM marks. No entrance exam. This is the primary route for Tamil Nadu students.
  • Management Quota — direct admission with higher fees, but still based on eligibility criteria, not JEE scores.

JEE Main is not used by Anna University or its affiliates at all. This is different from NITs/IIITs where JEE is mandatory.

one thing worth knowing — 15% seats at private engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu fall under the All India Quota, which is filled via JEE Main through JOSAA/CSAB. these are NOT Anna University seats — they're at private colleges like SRM, VIT, Amrita etc. Anna University government college seats are all through TNEA only.

so if you're specifically targeting Anna University CEG (College of Engineering Guindy) or other Anna University constituent colleges — focus on your Tamil Nadu board marks and TNEA rank, not JEE Main.

Vidhi KhandelM.E in Industrial Engineering (college major) & Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2015)

Other state (OS) students have two main ways to get admissions into Anna University.

Through Other State Quota: Only government colleges can be availed through this. About 2-3 seats are available only for each department. The counselling procedure is based on home state 12 equivalent marks.

Santosh MathewM.E in Teaching Profession, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2013)

Industrial quota or consortium quota as it is generally called is a medium through which a student can be admitted to any of the UG courses of the university.

Anyone who has an industry can apply through this quota which is its main qualification. The process is as follows:

  • The university reviews all the applications submitted.

  • It then visits the industry and makes a report on the background of the company.

  • Based on the report the applied candidate is given a seat in the university.

Most importantly an MOU is signed between the university and the industry.

The main thing to consider is that the company should be related to the course the candidate is willing to pursue.

Could anyone explain how CBSE students get admission to Anna university?

Ahana Bhaduri
Karan SinghBE in Electrical Engineering, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2018)

In Anna University counseling, CBSE students are not given any special consideration. Officially, they claim that CBSE students' grades are moderated, but the process is as follows. They take into account the highest mark obtained by a student in that subject across India. Because it will be 100, if you get 85, your grade will not change.

The CBSE cut-off is calculated in such a way that,

((Mathematics marks) + ((Physics + Chemistry marks)/2))

As a result of the cut-off calculation, CBSE students are always at a significant disadvantage when competing with state board students. Even if a student achieves 95 in each of the three subjects, the cut-off is 190, which is low when compared to state board students.

The following are some of the other options:

SSN has its own meritorious management quota. If you are chosen, you will be subjected to a test and an interview.

Many other colleges, such as Loyola and Rajalakshmi, provide meritorious management seats that you can apply for.

Can students from other states apply for ANNA University?

Amisha JunejaB.E in Computer Science, Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India (Graduated 2010)

They certainly can. Anna University in Chennai now handles admissions to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu following the exclusion of the Tamil Nadu Professional Colleges Entrance Examination in 2007.

For students from other states, it has a special space reserved for them, and on a different day, counseling is provided. Because there aren't many people coming from other states to study at Anna University, they should have an easy time getting in.

TNEA is the state-level admission procedure for the state of Tamil Nadu. Anna University organizes it to provide admissions to B.E./B. Tech professional degree courses. Admission will be granted solely on the basis of the intermediate (12th) class percentage. The candidate must obtain 45% (general category), 40% (backward class, including backward class Muslim), 40% (MBC and DNC), and 40% (SC/ST/SCA).
