Anna University Chennai M.Plan : Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. M.Plan at Anna University is a 2-year postgraduate programme in urban and regional planning. The curriculum covers land use planning, transportation planning, environmental planning, housing policy, urban economics, GIS and remote sensing, and smart city design. Students work on planning projects using Chennai and Tamil Nadu’s urban growth patterns as primary case study contexts, giving the programme strong practical grounding in South Indian urban development challenges.

Ans. The total fee for the 2-year M.Plan programme is INR 1,18,660, paid across 4 semesters. Semester 1 is INR 41,560 and each of the remaining three semesters is INR 25,700. Hostel accommodation is optional and available at up to INR 78,700 per year, charged separately from the programme fee.

Ans. M.Plan graduates can work with government bodies like CMDA, DTCP, housing boards, and smart city special purpose vehicles. International development agencies, urban infrastructure consultancies, and environmental planning firms also recruit M.Plan graduates. Roles include urban planner, transportation planner, regional planning officer, GIS analyst, and policy consultant. Higher studies in PhD Planning or civil services examinations are also pursued by some graduates.

Ans. Candidates must hold a B.Arch or B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with at least 55% aggregate (50% for reserved categories). A valid CEETA-PG score in the Planning paper is required for admission. Candidates with a GATE score in relevant disciplines may also be considered for seats under the GATE category during CEAP counselling.

Ans. Admission is through CEETA-PG, Anna University’s postgraduate entrance exam introduced from 2026. Eligible candidates register and appear for the exam in May, check results in late May, and then register on the CEAP counselling portal. Seat preferences for M.Plan are filled during the CEAP choice-filling window expected in August 2026, and seats are allotted based on CEETA-PG rank and category.
