Admission

Jadavpur University takes admission only through WBJEE. Before 2019 there was no home state quote, however, from 2019, the university added a 90% domicile system for West Bengal students. Now the admission process is quite similar to JOSAA. Everyone has to fill choices and then seats are allotted according to rank. After getting a document verification certificate from reporting center visit the university on the dates given on their website. After the necessary verification of the documents, all the original ones will be returned except the document verification certificate issued by reporting center. They will keep a self-attested photocopy of the documents. The admission occurs in July month. This university is one the best in India for engineering and its return of investment is awesome. Remarks

College management is very lethargic and I would like to rate them 1/10. They will make you wait for many days for hard copy grade cards, bonafide, and any other official works. Otherwise, everything from college teachers to placement cell is awesome. You will fall in love if you get the chance to join.

Ques. Which is better for a B.Sc in Chemistry (Hons.), St. Xavier's Kolkata or Jadavpur University?

Ans. The general preference is that none of the two colleges is a feasible option for pursuing B.Sc (Chemistry). The reasons behind this are listed separately below for both the colleges: Xavier’s is not a good option for chemistry. The faculty is not equipped in teaching in-depth concepts. They do not provide the requisite exposure for broadening a student's knowledge base. A general tendency of faculties is that they don’t recommend books. A huge amount of knowledge is gained by using internet sources which in turn makes them dependent on electronic sources. Internal politics is also an inevitable element of the campus culture. A lot of distraction is inherent in the day-to-day activities. Jadavpur University also gives very less exposure in terms of the knowledge base. A large amount of attention is focused on internal politics which hampers the educational and professional growth of the candidates. Both the colleges reflect quite a dismal picture for this particular course, but even if the choice has to be made it will shift towards Xavier’s Kolkata as in: It is the only NAAC Accredited A++ institute in West Bengal making your degree more reputed and acceptable. It will provide larger scope for better career options in the market. It allows individuals to look out to different personality domains of a candidate as it gives opportunity in the form of various cultural & social events. Ans. Jadavpur University is located in the middle of Kolkata and BIT Mesra is located at the outskirts of the city. Jadavpur University has arts and science departments as well, so one will get holistic viewpoints. Infrastructure: BIT Mesra has more conforming buildings and much better food and lodging than the Jadavpur University. Diversity: BIT Mesra has got overall better diversity but the gender diversity is surprisingly twisted. The table shows a brief overview of the institutions: Particulars NIT Jamshedpur BIT Mesra Median Salary Rs. 19.96 Lakh Rs. 11.76 Lakh Entrance Criteria WBJEE JEE Main Fees Rs. 9600 Rs. 13.15 Lakh Placement: BIT Mesra - The average package was 11.76 lakhs with Student strength of 120. In 2020, Microsoft gave the highest package of approx 49.76 lakhs and took 7 students. Multiple other top companies came like GS, Amazon, DirectI, Walmart labs etc. Jadavpur University - The average package was 19.96 lakhs with Student strength of 60. In 2020, Tower Research gave the highest package of 42 lakhs. Tower Research only visits top 7 IITs and some very few good colleges, Jadavpur University being one of them. The classes are assured regularly and rigorous for those who desire to have a future in mathematics; there should be no doubt in selecting JU. Comparison: (Winning Institution - Jadavpur University) St. Xaviers became a university recently. A BSc degree from JU holds more value than a bachelor’s degree from St. Xaviers. Jadavpur University was ranked 196th in Asia by The World University Ranking 2020. The faculty at JU is top-notch. The syllabus adopted by JU is of advantage if you want to pursue higher studies after your degree. You will have better exposure at Jadavpur through regular seminars. Faculty: (Winning Institution - Calcutta University) In India, there is no other Engineering college or institute that imparts such in-depth knowledge in the field of Computer Science Engineering as Calcutta University. There used to be a time when all three HODs of the Electronics Engineering at IIT Kharagpur/ IIEST Shibpur / Jadavpur University were Professors (MTech/Ph.D.) from Calcutta University Science College.
