Calcutta University Admission 2019: Entrance Exam, Last Date, Application Form

Calcutta University offers various UG, PG, Research and Diploma level programs in different specializations. Application form can be filled online or offline on payment of the application fee through SBI Collect or Challan. Calcutta University offers admission in these courses under two categories, i.e. Category ‘A’ for CU Candidates and Category ‘B’ for Non-CU candidates. The admission under ‘A’ and ‘B’ categories is granted over 60% and 40% seats respectively.

Calcutta University 2019 Updates

Calcutta University Ph.D. Buddhist Studies Admission form available till April 29, 2019.

  • Those students who have completed their Graduation from the Autonomous colleges of CU will be considered under Category ‘A’ for all the current year admission.
  • Non-CU candidates and those who have completed their Graduation from CU in the preceding year will be treated in Category ‘B’.
  • B.Tech admission is based on the score in WBJEE conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) followed by counselling.
  • The university conducts its own entrance exam followed by an interview at its College Street Campus and Alipore campus to offer admission in M.Tech, M.Ed., LL.M, M.Sc and M.Sc (Ag.) programs.
  • For some selected specialization in M.Tech, a valid GATE score is required. Apart from GATE score, for M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemical Technology, a good GPAT score will be considered.
  • At PG level, MA, M.Com and M.Li.Sc admission will be granted on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination. CAT or MAT qualified candidates are eligible to apply for MBA course.
  • At UG level, the admission to BA, B.Sc & B.Com programs is based on marks in the qualifying degree while admission to B.Li.Sc, Integrated B.Li.Sc and BA-LL.B programs is based on Admission Test conducted by the university.
  • M.Phil & Ph.D. admission is based on the score in Research Entrance Test (RET) followed by an Interview. CSIR/ UGC NET-JRF qualified candidates will be exempted from RET.

Note: Students must note that for any entrance or merit-based admission, 60% seats (to be filled through merit) are reserved for CU candidates and 40% seats (to be filled through admission test) are reserved for Non-CU candidates.

Calcutta University B.Tech & M.Tech Admission 2019

Calcutta University offers admission in B.Tech. and M.Tech. program in various specializations. These courses are offered in Integrated, Part-Time and Lateral Entry modes. WBJEE qualified candidates are eligible to apply for B.Tech while for M.Tech program, a valid score in University Level Entrance is mandatory for Non-CU candidates. CU candidates are free to choose between entrance and merit-based admission.

M.Tech Entrance Test will consist total 50 questions of 100 marks for the duration of One hour 30 minutes. Students must note that for some specializations, a valid GATE score is mandatory.

In case of M.Tech program, CU candidates are directly eligible for admission while Non-CU candidates have to appear in the Admission Test. Students must note that in case of M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemical Technology, a good GPAT score will be considered in place of GATE.

The candidates can apply online as well as offline. The application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the university. The application fee of B.Tech program is INR 500 + Bank service charges.

Key Points:

  • For M.Tech in Computer Science, except for CU current year B. Tech (CSE & IT) and MCA candidates, all have to go through an Entrance Test followed by an Interview. GATE score is not mandatory for CU students.
  • M.Tech+ Ph.D. in Astronomical Instrumentation is offered in collaboration with Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore.
  • The admission to B.Tech (LE) in Jute & Fiber Technology is based on score in JELET.
  • The university entrance exam conducted for M.Tech program is of 100 marks for the duration of One hour and 30 minutes. There are 50 multiple type questions. Two marks will be awarded for each correct answer and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Calcutta University UG Admission 2019: BA, B.Sc, B.Com & B.Li.Sc

Calcutta University offers various programs at UG level such as B.Ed., B.Lib.Sc, B.Sc, BA, B.Com and BA-LL.B. The candidates willing to take admission in any of these courses can apply online on the official website of the university. The admission to BA-LL.B, B.Li.Sc and Integrated B.Li.Sc is based on the score in Admission Test. BA, B.Sc & B.Com admission is completely merit-Based.

Calcutta University B.Ed & M.Ed Admission 2019

CU offers admission to B.Ed & M.Ed programs for the categories of Deputed and Fresher candidates on the basis of their performance in academics. Minimum eligibility for B.Ed is a Graduation or PG degree with 50% marks in aggregate. Age should be not more than 40 years as on June 30 for Fresher candidates. There is no age limit for Deputed candidates. Age limit is relaxed up to five years for SC/ST & PWD candidates.

For M.Ed program, the minimum eligibility is a pass in B.Ed degree. Admission will be granted on the basis of University Entrance Test with special weightage to the marks in qualifying degree. M.Ed entrance test will consist of 50 MCQs of 50 marks for the duration of one hour & 30 minutes. 50% seats are reserved for Deputed and Fresher candidates each.

Calcutta University offers admission to MA, M.Com, M.Sc, M.Li.Sc and LL.M in multiple disciplines at PG level. Application form can be filled in online or offline modes. The basic eligibility for PG courses is a pass in a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant disciplines.

Application form for MA/ M.Sc and M.Com courses can be filled online by visiting the official website of Calcutta University. Follow these steps to fill the application form:

  1. Visit the official website of Calcutta University.
  2. Fill and submit the application form online.
  3. Pay the application fee of INR 100 (INR 50 for reserved categories)

Note: For MA in Museology and candidates applying under Sports and Foreign Quota, the application form can be obtained from the Office of the Secretary (Alipore Campus).

Calcutta University MBA Admission 2019

Calcutta University offers admission to MBA program in various specializations on the basis of a valid score in CAT or MAT. The minimum eligibility is any UG degree from a recognized university.

Application form can be downloaded the from the official website of university. Fill the form and send it to the university address along with the below-listed documents:

  • Marks sheet and school leaving certificate (with attested photocopies)
  • DD of INR 1500 drawn in favor of ‘University of Calcutta’.

M.Phil. and Ph.D. Admissions in Calcutta University are based on the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the university. The basic eligibility is a pass in the relevant PG degree from a recognized university. Students have to appear in total three papers for RET. Details of paper are given below:

Key Points:

  • Any PG Degree holder can apply for M.Phil in Women Studies.
  • Candidates belonging to other states need to produce ‘Domicile Certificate’ at the time of application.
  • The candidates applying for Ph.D. program have to submit a Research proposal and a short essay along with the application form.
  • Selection will be made on the basis of merit only. 60% of the total seat will be reserved for those students who have completed their qualifying examination form CU while remaining seats (40%) for Non-CU students on the basis of a subject-wise entrance test.
  • The entrance test will consist of 50 MCQs of total 100 marks. Two marks will be awarded for each correct answer and 0.5 marks will be deducted for each wrong attempt.
  • Merit list for SC, ST and PWD candidates (for the 60% seats) will be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Honors subject.
  •  Candidates should have obtained marks not lower by more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the General Category.
  • In case of OBC-A and OBC-B, selection will be made on the basis of the marks not lower by more than 10% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the General Category.

Calcutta University M.Phil Application Process 2019:

Download the application form from the official website of the university. Pay the application fee of INR 500 (INR 250 for SC/ST/PWD) through challan. Challan can be procured from the cash counter of Calcutta University. Application fee can also be paid through SBI Online.

Completed application form except for Education, Sociology, Library Science & Women Studies will be received by the Office of Secretary, UCAC (College Street Campus, CU), Room No. 3G, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor) while the application forms for Education, Sociology and Women Studies will be received by the concerned Department at the Alipur Campus, CU, 1 Reformatory Street, Kolkata – 700 027.

Calcutta University Ph.D. Application Process 2019

The application form for Ph.D. courses can be downloaded from the official website of Calcutta University or can be obtained directly from the university admission counter on payment of INR 100 through cash Application form is required to be sent to the university along with application fee and required documents.

Note: (in the case of a downloaded form, the DD of INR 100 is required to be drawn in the favour of the university from any nationalized bank.
