University of Calcutta Diploma Urdu: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Any candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination from a recognised board in any stream is eligible. Students currently enrolled in or having completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at any recognised university may also apply for the programme.

Ans. The total programme fee is INR 2,040 for the one-year Diploma in Urdu, payable as monthly tuition along with a one-time admission fee and examination charges, as per the Department of Languages fee schedule for the 2026-27 session.

Ans. The curriculum covers Urdu Nastaliq script reading and writing, foundational to intermediate grammar, selections from classical Urdu poetry (Mir, Ghalib, Faiz) and prose, and an introduction to Urdu literary traditions and the Mughal and Nawabi cultural heritage of the subcontinent.

Ans. Urdu proficiency is valued in journalism, publishing, education, translation, diplomacy, film and television, and civil services. Graduates can work as translators, content writers, Urdu language teachers, or researchers in Indo-Islamic history, literature, and cultural studies.

Ans. Classes are conducted in the evening at the Department of Languages, Asutosh Building (2nd Floor), 87/1 College Street, University of Calcutta, Kolkata. Sessions typically commence between July and August after the completion of the admission and merit list process.

Ans. Application forms are available at the Department of Languages office at Asutosh Building on payment of the prescribed fee. Completed forms are submitted to the department office, and the selected candidate list is announced on the Departmental notice board.
