University of Calcutta M.Sc Environmental Science: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. The CU PG Admission process for Environmental Science has two tracks. Part-A is for graduates of Calcutta University and its affiliated colleges, who are shortlisted on academic merit alone. Part-B is for graduates of other universities, who qualify through a written entrance test conducted by the university. All candidates apply online through the CU admission portal, and the merit list is published on the university website after processing.

Ans. The total fees for the two-year MSc Environmental Science programme are INR 20,775. The first semester costs INR 6,300, which includes a one-time admission fee of INR 1,000, tuition of INR 3,000, a lab fee of INR 1,800, a library fee of INR 400, sessional fee of INR 25, and ID card fee of INR 75. Each of the remaining three semesters costs INR 4,825, covering tuition, lab, and sessional fees. No other compulsory fee is charged.

Ans. The M.Sc. in Environmental Science at Calcutta University is a two-year full-time programme spread across four semesters. It is offered under the Faculty of Science as one of the 25 CU departmental courses. Students complete both theoretical coursework and practical laboratory sessions covering environmental analysis, ecology, pollution monitoring, and related subjects throughout the programme.

Ans. Candidates with a three-year B.Sc. Honours or B.Sc. Major in Environmental Science or a related natural science from any recognised university who graduated in 2022 or later are eligible. Graduates awaiting final-year results may also apply, provided they submit their mark sheet before the merit list is generated. Category-wise relaxation in minimum marks applies as per university norms.

Ans. Students who ranked in the top 1% of their Class XII board examination may receive the DST-INSPIRE SHE scholarship of INR 80,000 per annum while pursuing a Natural Sciences MSc. Students with family income below INR 8 lakh per annum may apply for the Central Sector Scholarship of INR 20,000 per annum through the National Scholarship Portal. SC/ST/OBC students may also apply for West Bengal government post-matric scholarships.

Ans. The University of Calcutta has hostel facilities on campus, but allotment to MSc students is subject to availability and the university hostel allocation process. Students are advised to contact the UCSTA help desk or the Environmental Science department directly for current hostel vacancy information and the application procedure. JRF fellowship holders pursuing PhD may also use these hostel facilities if allotted.
