Located in Fredericksburg, Virginia The University of Mary Washington was established in the year 1908. University Mary Washington has an acceptance rate of around 70-80% every year. As per the admission survey, in the Fall of 2018, a total of 5,909 students applied. Among them, only 71.7% got admission. Its placement rate, as observed in the survey of Class of 2019, is about 89% of which:

University of Mary Washington International Students Admission:

The University accepts International students, provided they have met all the guidelines laid down by the University. The applicants should have the requisite secondary education in accordance with the curriculum provided by the college. They should have the minimum grade points equivalency, should have submitted all academic records, provided proof of financial support for one academic year and met the mentioned guidelines.

Even though the admission process for domestic and international students is the same, however, there are some additional requirements for the International applicants.

Application Portal: The candidates can apply by visiting the official website of the University. There is the UMW Application form for the domestic and International Undergraduate applicants. Candidates can also apply through The Common Application Form.

Admission Requirements: International applicants must have the following documents to be eligible for University of Mary Washington admission-

  • A Complete application
  • Personal Essay along with the application
  • Official high school and college transcripts
  • Transcripts must be verified and attested by trusted authorities like the U.S Embassy or Notary public.
  • Official transcripts can be translated and evaluated by trusted agencies like- World Educational Services Inc. , Educational Credential Evaluators.
  • Proof Of English language through SAT/ACT/TOEFL/IELTS/ILA scores to be sent directly to UMW
  • A English language requirement waiver if native language is English.
  • Proof of Financial support stating that the applicant can pay for at least one year of academic and living expenses, and that he can pay the enrollment deposit before being issued an I-20 by UMW.

  • At least one Letter of Recommendation

English Proficiency Test Score for International Students:

The candidates whose native language is not English and have had a major amount of education in a non English medium need to provide proof of their English proficiency through tests accepted by UMW. The minimum required scores by the University are:

Visa Process for International Students:

International Students can apply for a student VISA after the University issues an application letter. Post receiving the acceptance letter from the University, to apply for the VISA, candidates need to have a Certificate of Eligibility I-20 form which is usually issued by the Department of Homeland Security. Candidates have to submit the necessary documents following which the I-20 form will be released by the Centre for International Education (CEI). For International Applicants the following documents are required:

  1. Admission Security
  2. Request for I-20 form
  3. Bank statements(as mentioned earlier)
  4. A copy of the Passport photo page
  5. Due dates: Mid-June(Fall term), Mid-October(Spring term)

To apply for VISA candidates have to fill the DS-160 form and then pay the VISA application fee. Following this, students can schedule an interview with the nearest U.S Embassy. Candidates have to submit the following documents before the U.S Embassy or Consulate:

  1. SEVIS form I-20
  2. Passport size photograph
  3. Proof of Financial support
  4. Passport
  5. Proof of English Efficiency
  6. UMW admission letter
  7. Student Visa application fee
  8. Receipt of SEVIS fee payment
  9. Receipt of DS-160 confirmation

University of Mary Washington Undergraduate Admission:

The University of Mary Washington provides over 80 major, minor and courses of study for the students. The applicants will have to submit the official college transcripts directly to the UMW.

Once the application is accepted, candidates are notified through an acceptance letter. Following this, candidates need to apply for VISA, establish health/medical Insurance and make the necessary travel arrangements. They also need to apply for an I-20 form. The I-20 form is usually sent out via mail as per the applicants mentioned choice in the form. Candidates can also choose to personally pick up their form.
