Temple University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Temple takes a holistic review approach and remains test-optional for SAT and ACT in the 2027 undergraduate cycle. English proficiency scores are still mandatory for Indian applicants.

Temple University PG Admission Requirements 2027

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with a minimum 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); Fox School and MAcc prefer 65% and above
  • English proficiency (verbatim from Graduate School): TOEFL iBT 4.5 on the new 1 to 6 scale (on or after 21 January 2026) or 79 on the 0 to 120 legacy scale (before 21 January 2026); IELTS 6.5; PTE Academic 53; Duolingo 110
  • Credential evaluation: Course-by-course report from WES, ECE or another NACES-member agency sent directly to Temple Graduate School
  • Programme-specific: GRE recommended for STEM MS applicants; GMAT or GRE optional for MBA (waivers available on request)

Temple University UG Admission Requirements 2027

  • Academic: Class 12 completion from CBSE, ICSE or a State Board with a minimum 65% to 85% depending on programme (recommended); Nursing and Actuarial Science expect the higher band
  • English proficiency (verbatim from Undergraduate Admissions): TOEFL iBT 4.0 on the new 1 to 6 scale or 79 on the 0 to 120 legacy scale (no sub-score below 4.0); IELTS 6.0; Duolingo 110; PTE Academic 53; Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 180; SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing 550
  • Application: Common Application submission with counsellor recommendation and one teacher letter

Key insight: Indian applicants who complete three or more years of instruction in an English-medium school qualify for a full English proficiency waiver, though Temple still recommends submitting a score to strengthen the application.

Temple University Acceptance Rate 2027

Temple University reports an acceptance rate near 80% (estimated), placing it among the more accessible large public research universities in the United States. The figure is derived from third-party admissions data compiled from Common Data Set filings; Temple has not published a Fall 2027 institutional rate.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202680% (estimated)Stable
202580% (estimated)Stable

Early Action applicants historically see a higher admit rate, reported near 91% by third-party trackers. Test-optional status widens the funnel further for Indian applicants without an SAT score.

Reality check: A high headline rate does not mean automatic admission; Temple’s competitive programmes such as Nursing, Fox honours and the Lew Klein College of Media rely on secondary essays, portfolios or GPA cutoffs above the university average.

Temple University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The Main Campus sits on 118 acres at 1801 North Broad Street in the Cecil B. Moore neighbourhood of North Philadelphia, about 2.4 kilometres north of Center City. Temple also runs urban and suburban sites in Philadelphia plus international campuses in Rome and Tokyo.

  • Transport: Cecil B. Moore station on the SEPTA Broad Street subway line drops students at the campus edge; Regional Rail links to 30th Street Station and the Airport
  • Housing: On-campus housing accommodates around 20% of undergraduates; first-year students are guaranteed a spot if they apply by 1 June 2027
  • Facilities: The Charles Library, Howard Gittis Student Center, TECH Center (24-hour computing), Aramark Student Training and Recreation Complex, and Temple University Hospital
  • Indian community: The Indian Students Association and Temple Hindu Yuva run Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events; on-campus dining includes vegetarian and halal options

What Indian students say: Cecil B. Moore station makes commuting to internships in Center City straightforward, the Charles Library is open late for exam prep, and Temple’s Fox career team runs India-specific resume workshops each semester.

Temple University also ranks #46 in Top Public Schools and #72 in Best Value Schools by US News 2026, and Fox School of Business appears in the QS Executive MBA subject table.

Key insight: A US News national rank inside the top 100 is the metric Indian employers and US immigration officers weigh most, and Temple’s #98 clears that bar while its lower QS position reflects world-scale research volume rather than teaching quality.

Temple University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Temple University reports strong career outcomes at both undergraduate and graduate levels, with Fox School of Business publishing the most detailed placement data.

  • MBA average starting salary: USD 142,659 per year (INR 1.36 crore) at Fox School of Business
  • Median salary six years after graduation: USD 50,860 (INR 48.50 lakh)
  • Employment within three months of graduation: 86.8% for Fox MBA graduates
  • Top hiring sectors: financial services, technology, healthcare, consulting, media and pharma (Philadelphia and New York metro)
  • Career support: Fox Center for Student Professional Development, career fairs each semester, alumni mentorship, and Optional Practical Training and STEM OPT advising for F-1 students

Insider note: Indian graduates in STEM-designated MS programmes have three years of United States work authorisation to secure H-1B sponsorship, and Philadelphia’s biotech and financial services corridor gives Temple alumni a shorter commute to interviews than most Midwest peers. See the MBA Universities in USA guide for peer salary benchmarks.

Temple University vs Peer Universities

The peer set below compares Temple to four Northeast public research universities and Drexel, its private in-city rival, on fee, ranking and differentiator.

UniversityQS World 2027Collegedunia Study AbroadAvg PG Fee (USD/INR lakh)Differentiator
Temple University#751 to 760#229 of 824USD 30,000 / 28.61 lakhPublic research in urban Philadelphia; STEM-heavy master’s list
Drexel University#771 to 780NAUSD 40,000 (estimated) / 38.14 lakhMandatory paid co-op for undergraduates
Rutgers University New Brunswick#314NAUSD 35,000 (estimated) / 33.37 lakhBig Ten public flagship near New York
Penn State University#92NAUSD 38,000 (estimated) / 36.23 lakhNational brand, AAU research profile
University of Pittsburgh#279NAUSD 44,000 (estimated) / 41.95 lakhAAU public with stronger medical research

Temple stands out on Philadelphia location, tuition value at the lower end of the Northeast public research band, and a test-optional undergraduate pipeline that widens the funnel for Indian applicants. It ranks lower globally than Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Penn State, so applicants targeting world-scale research prestige should weigh those alternatives.

Temple University is the right pick for Indian students who want a mid-tier public United States degree, a two-year total investment near INR 1.05 crore against a Fox MBA starting salary of INR 1.36 crore, and Philadelphia’s finance, biotech and health corridor within a SEPTA ride. The 80% acceptance rate, STEM-designated master’s list and 24-month OPT extension turn Temple into a workable United States entry point without the Ivy sticker or waitlist risk.

It is not the fit for applicants chasing top-100 QS rank or a single-digit national ranking; Rutgers, Pittsburgh or Penn State carry stronger world-scale prestige with comparable public tuition, and University of Pennsylvania in the same city sits in a different admissions tier altogether.

The college experience was good. I was not sure about it when I came in the early days and found it hard to settle down in a new place but after some time when I got used to the culture and how things work here I started enjoying my college life.

Overview

University is good, it is a national university with good ranking but I generally don't recommend because of the locality here. You might ask me why did I choose. Here is the answer, I didn't do any background research of this locality, I received scholarship so I joined.

Overview

It's affordable and I love the city, I got a good scholarship and I loved the energy of the campus when I visited. The people are so nice, the professors are great and the classes are compelling.

Fees

The tuition and room and board are about $35,000 since I'm in state. I was lucky enough to get a scholarship of $8,000 yearly though. That really goes a long long way since college is super expensive these days.

Overview

I picked Temple University because it is in the city of Philadelphia. This city is amazing for health care professionals and Temple University provides the best education for students. It is also filled with diversity and networking opportunities.

Fees

Tuition is based on whether you are in state or out of state. You are also responsible for your textbooks and other materials that are pretty costly. As well as an option meal plan. But it is the same fees and necessary items as any other university.
