Drexel stands out among US East Coast private universities primarily for its integrated Co-op programme and STEM-heavy master’s catalogue at moderate tuition bands. For Indian applicants prioritising paid US work experience during study, Drexel remains a stronger practical fit than pure-classroom peers at similar tuition levels.
Drexel University suits Indian applicants targeting a STEM-designated master’s with paid work experience via co-op. Total investment of USD 60,000 to USD 75,000 across tuition and one year of living sits below the median for US private research universities. The standout Indian-specific advantage remains the Steinbright pipeline into Philadelphia tech, healthcare and finance recruiters, coupled with long OPT eligibility for STEM tracks.
Drexel is a weaker choice for Indian applicants targeting the most selective US universities or research-heavy computer science tracks with heavy PhD placement. Applicants with strong GPA and clean test profiles should compare Carnegie Mellon University for CS or NYU Tandon for cybersecurity before committing.
Drexel University FAQs
Ques. What programmes at Drexel University are STEM-designated for Indian students?
Ans. Most MS Engineering, MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity, MS Information Systems, MS Business Analytics and MS Robotics tracks at Drexel carry STEM designation from the US Department of Homeland Security. STEM-designated status matters for F-1 visa holders because it extends OPT work authorisation from 12 to 36 months after graduation. Confirm STEM designation on individual programme pages before applying, as CIP codes can change with curriculum updates.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at Drexel during studies?
Ans. F-1 visa holders at Drexel may work part-time up to 20 hours per week during academic term and up to 40 hours during scheduled breaks. On-campus roles through university departments, libraries and the Steinbright Career Development Center cover most permitted employment. Off-campus work requires prior CPT or OPT authorisation and cannot begin until after the first full academic year of study is complete.
Ques. Is GRE required for MS admission at Drexel University?
Ans. GRE is optional across most Drexel MS Engineering, Computing and LeBow MS programmes for Fall 2027 admission. Applicants with GPA below 3.0 on the 4.0 scale or from institutions unfamiliar to Drexel Admissions may benefit from submitting GRE scores to strengthen the file. GMAT remains optional for LeBow MBA; competitive candidates typically submit scores above 600 for merit scholarship consideration.
Ques. Does Drexel accept WES credential evaluations from Indian transcripts?
Ans. Yes, Drexel accepts WES course-by-course evaluations for Indian bachelor’s and master’s transcripts as part of the graduate application process. Applicants must also submit original semester-wise mark sheets and consolidated degree certificates directly from their Indian university in sealed envelopes. WES evaluation typically takes 4 to 6 weeks and costs USD 205 for Indian applicants, so begin the process 2 months before the application deadline.
Ques. How does the Drexel Co-op programme work for international students?
Ans. The Drexel Co-op programme integrates 6-month full-time paid work placements into most undergraduate degrees and select graduate tracks, extending typical bachelor’s duration to five years. Students alternate academic quarters with employer placements arranged through the Steinbright Career Development Center. Co-op wages typically range USD 15,000 to USD 22,000 per cycle, offsetting tuition costs and providing verifiable US work experience for OPT applications.
Ques. How do Indian applicants apply for the Drexel Dean’s Scholarship?
Ans. The School of Engineering Dean’s Scholarship at Drexel is automatically considered for all admitted full-time MS Engineering applicants; no separate application form is required. Award decisions accompany the acceptance letter, typically 2 to 4 weeks after complete application submission. Minimum 3.0 GPA and complete official transcripts remain the baseline; higher GPAs and a strong statement of purpose meaningfully strengthen scholarship consideration.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise Drexel University for education loans?
Ans. HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda and Prodigy Finance all list Drexel University in their pre-approved US university lists for education loans. Prodigy Finance offers no-cosigner loans up to USD 100,000 for STEM MS programmes. Indian public sector banks typically require the Drexel I-20 letter and a co-borrower with adequate collateral or salary proof documentation.
Ques. What dependent visa options exist for Drexel Indian graduate students?
Ans. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 of F-1 visa holders at Drexel qualify for F-2 dependent visas. F-2 dependents cannot work in the US but can enrol in part-time academic study or full-time K-12 schooling. Financial proof for F-2 dependents adds approximately USD 6,000 to USD 8,000 per person per year on the I-20 issued by Drexel’s international admissions office.

Campus Life
• My university has only one campus, but that's the City Campus so it's significantly big.
• There is a Library which is open till evening everyday. There is also a Big sports complex in front of the Library which has a 2 storey gym, basket ball courts, Swimming Pool, Squash Rink, Running Path & Table Tennis Tables and many such things. Medical Services I have never used so far but I heard there is a student medical Centre in the campus. But what I personally like about Drexel is their Police. Drexel Police is there for 24/7 support & they constantly do patrolling and also comes wherever you are on campus if you feel scared.
• I have taken part in Orientations, there was nice food & also nice engaging activities for the students to engage with each other. Also there are many clubs that organize events for the festivals of here & our festivals as well. They provide free food, many fun activities & Good memories. I have taken parts in many of them as a Volunteer as well. Also Drexel does organize the Career Fairs for the students to direct contact the company members & can present their resumes in-person. For sports, you have a Very good & well maintained Sports Centre where you can go & present your College ID & can ask for the equipments. Also for the extracurricular activities you have many clubs & student chapters which you can take a part in as I mentioned above.

Tuition fees are to be paid quarterly, International Students are required to take minimum 3 courses per quarter, 1 Course is for 3 credits(for my Degree). So around 10k-12k Dollars per quarter(May be less if you get the scholarship)
Fees structure is credit based, the more amount of Credit you register for, the more fees you have to pay.(Minimum 9 Credits per quarter for International Students*)
- Monthly Expenses:
I am living Off-Campus & paying Rent around 800$(Including all the Utilities)
You may find cheaper ones but may be those are a bit far from the campus(You have to have a Bicycle or a Motorvehicle to transport if you go far)
Transportation Bus System is there but for limited routes(That works for Drexel Students for free on ID cards)
Grocery expenses come around 100-150$ per month if you cook at home.(If you are an outside eater, it may cost a lot than this)
I prefer walking & my residence is nearby college buildings so there is no transpiration cost for me(If you travel or go for a trip, you may require some money depending on how frequently you go, has a strong public transport structure though)

Fees

- I Like the environment around the campus, one most thing I enjoyed was quarter system, Diversity of Drexel, Drexel Univeristy provide alot of scholarships program which students can apply and get one of them, Different association which new students can participate and meet their co-students and make network.
- I was the part of one of their organization (IGSA).
Dislikes
- I will not say that i dislike anything about Drexel, because I enjoyed my 2 years of journey their and i cherish every moment. One I felt was selecting people in any organization should handle by advisor of the association not the students. That way you can create good team to organize events.

- The course curriculum is interesting.
- Course has right blend of theory and practical stuff.
- The professors are highly talented and helpful.
Dislikes
- Campus life is not that great, saince the university is scattered in the city.
- The course during the initial quarters is not that great, as it focuses more on the history of games and digital media.
- At times, the course felt it had unnecessary filler subjects.
Campus Life
- The university has almost 9-10 campus buildings, excluding the library, gym, and medical centre.
- There are very few festivals and events done during the initial quarter.
- But there were some notable Holi, Diwali, and Bollywood events going on every year.
- We have many clubs for different sports like Badminton, Squash, Swimming, Boxing, BasketBall.
Likes
- I like the CO-OP opportunity at Drexel University. It will give me industrial experience along with academics.
Dislikes
- I dislike the quarter pattern in my university. It makes my studies hectic. I literally have exams every month!
Overview
I chose this university for the CO-OP opportunity, speciality in the Pharmaceutical industry. The university helped me to develop my resume, LinkedIn profile, etc.
Campus Life
There are very less extracurricular activities or clubs for master's students because of the hectic schedule. Most of the clubs and extracurricular activities are for undergrad.
Likes
- The campus is located in the city so you get to experience true city life while also getting a campus.
- Lot of accommodation options and also really affordable as compared to other cities.
- Lot of food options, especially international food.
Dislikes
- The academics could be better.
- It lacks community because we don't have a lot of focus on sports, so the college doesn't get a chance to come together and celebrate Drexel.
Overview
I picked this over any other college because of its city-integrated campus. It also had business analytics as an option for a STEM degree, even though it was a co-major, so only 24 extra credits. Also liked their co-op system where you get to intern full-time with big companies, almost promising a return offer in the future.
Campus Life
There are a lot of clubs on campus and you'll be introduced to most of them within the first few months of being there. The student body is very engaging, you can even start your own club like I did. There are constant events happening every single day in every single building. I am not sure about research facilities. The library is really old but feels homely and like a safe space to work out of. Our gym is the biggest in all of Philadelphia, it has two floors of gym space, a pool, a basketball court (indoor and outdoor, which is used for multiple different activities), a golf simulator, squash courts, table tennis, and more. They also let you rent out equipment so you can use all these facilities for free.

- Campus is pretty diverse and students are always onto something haha
- Faculty is helpful and good at what they do. Teaching is v important and I found it to be top tier
- Co-op program is easily the BEST in the country. I highly recommend opting for the 5 year 3 coop option
Dislikes
- I wish there were more activities outside of regular university co curriculars. Would have loved to explore more
- More social events where I could network more. Maybe I needed to sign up for more so I guess more marketing of those events?
- Post Graduation resources are a little scarce. Wish I could stay in contact more
Overview
I had taken the SATs and applied for Drexel University alongside 4 other universities (Texas A&M, NYU, Purdue, and Penn State). I got in all the above listed and got deferred in NYU. The application process specifically for Drexel was pretty straightforward. I had to submit my SAT score, write 2 essays, and fill out the application form, and financial aid form. I had applied early decision.
Campus Life
Campus life is very lively and very fun. Something or the other is always happening haha You'll find a lot of international students as well Infrastructure is pretty modern but at the same time some buildings are archaic so it's a good mix Sports facilities could be better, to be honest There were a lot of South Asian clubs so highly recommend those :)
Overview
Course Curriculum, Alumni Network. LeBow in particular has a great alumni network and the careers team here is exceptionally nice and helpful.
Fees
The fee calculation is per credit. For LeBow College of Business, it is $1139 per credit. You also pay an enrollment fee each quarter. If you are enrolled full-time for a particular quarter(full-time would mean 9 credits or more) it is $280. For quarters where you are enrolled part-time (like summer during internship or last quarter where you mostly have 3/6 credits left or any number of credits below 9), it is $140. So the fee for the full-time quarter with 9 credits is calculated as - (1139*9)+280= 10,531. The scholarship amount is awarded based on the number of credits you take in each quarter. It is evenly distributed according to it.
Overview
They're a private school, specializing in co-ops, and are among the best in the country with connections to Fortune 500 companies. Students are able to gain 2 years of experience even before graduation.
Fees
$75,000 is the program fee.
Overview
I chose Drexel for the co-op program and also because I planned to transfer before I started and my counselor told me a private school would be easier to transfer from.
Fees
Approximately $70,000 per year so a total of around $280,000.
