University of Connecticut FAQs
Ques. What English-medium waiver documents does UConn accept from Indian applicants?
Ans. UConn accepts an official medium-of-instruction letter from an Indian university on institutional letterhead confirming that the bachelor’s degree was delivered entirely in English. The letter must be signed by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations and submitted alongside the application. Applicants from universities that do not issue this letter must submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores per the standard minimums.
Ques. Can Indian MS students work part-time on campus at UConn?
Ans. Yes, F-1 visa holders at UConn can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during semesters and 40 hours per week during breaks. Common roles include library assistants, dining hall staff, IT helpdesk and departmental graders. Off-campus employment requires CPT or OPT authorisation and typically begins after the first academic year of study.
Ques. Which Indian banks partner with UConn for education loans?
Ans. UConn is recognised for education loans by State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, Avanse, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank without collateral for amounts up to INR 50 lakh subject to co-applicant income. Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing offer no-collateral, no-cosigner loans covering full tuition and living expenses for eligible STEM masters, with disbursement in USD directly to UConn.
Ques. Does UConn require GRE for MS Computer Science admissions?
Ans. UConn’s School of Computing lists GRE as recommended but not mandatory for the MS Computer Science programme. Strong applicants without GRE need CGPA above 8.0/10 from a reputed engineering institution, a technical Statement of Purpose and academic or industry Letters of Recommendation. Submitting a competitive GRE score of 320 or above still strengthens funding chances at UConn.
Ques. How much financial proof does UConn require for the I-20?
Ans. UConn requires financial documentation showing USD 55,000 minimum for one academic year of study before issuing the I-20. Acceptable proof includes bank statements not older than 6 months, education loan sanction letters from recognised Indian banks, and sponsor affidavits with tax returns. The financial certification form and supporting documents must be uploaded through UConn’s international admissions portal.
Ques. Is the MS BAPM at UConn STEM-designated for OPT extension?
Ans. Yes, University of Connecticut’s MS Business Analytics and Project Management is STEM-designated under CIP code 52.1301, qualifying graduates for the 24-month OPT STEM extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT. Indian students therefore get 36 months of post-study work authorisation in the US, covering three H-1B lottery attempts and significantly improving green card sponsorship timelines.
Ques. Does UConn offer conditional admission for Indian applicants with low English scores?
Ans. UConn’s UConn American English Language Institute (UCAELI) offers conditional admission bridging for undergraduate and select graduate applicants who meet academic requirements but fall short on TOEFL or IELTS minimums. Students complete intensive English coursework and progress into their degree upon achieving the required proficiency level. Application to UCAELI is submitted through the standard international admissions portal.
Ques. Can UConn dependents on F-2 visa work or study in the US?
Ans. F-2 dependents of UConn students cannot work in the US under any circumstances and cannot pursue full-time degree study. Spouses may enrol in part-time recreational or vocational courses, while F-2 children may attend K-12 school full-time. Dependents seeking employment or full-time study must transition to F-1, H-1B or another qualifying visa category through separate USCIS applications.

- Being one of the top universities in the USA, the program I was in provided me with a proper blend of business analytics and project management skills, which drove me to accept admission from UCONN.
- Being one of the top state universities in the USA, UCONN is very organized with the coursework and has industry leaders as professors. Interacting with such leaders of the business world and gaining knowledge from this is really a plus for any student and thats what i like the most.
Dislikes
- Our campus is situated in the Downtown of Hartford, CT where as the main campus is in Storrs, CT. I really wish our classes also were based out of the main campus in Storrs, CT as it feels like a proper university atmosphere apart from just attending classes out of a building in the city.
Overview
The university does provide a proper structured coursework which would touch on all parts of the basics. With the professors' real time experience and intellect, the course starts to make more sense. Apart from coursework, there are a couple of networking events the university organizes which are actually helpful for the students.
Campus Life
UCONN, School of Business does not have a big campus apart from just a building in the Downtown of Hartford, but UCONN Storrs has a very big campus which will provide the experience of an actual state university in the USA.

- I feel the cost of tuition, fees, and other expenses associated with the BAPM program are not that much worth compared to the teaching standards. I feel the course content is not well-structured.

Overview

Campus Life
No Campus life for Hartford camps. We should visit storrs campus for any kind of extra circular activities and sports activities.
Overview
This college is in my home state and I ultimately chose it because it was the cheapest I got accepted to because I have in state tuition. I was in the top 10th percentile of my class and I got accepted into UConn’s honors program that only accepts 500 students out of an incoming class of over 6000. I chose this program because I originally thought I would transfer out but after staying for a year I really liked the school, it was big enough and had plenty of diversity and programs offered. But small enough that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the large community. The honors program is a fantastic community.
Fees
I’m not aware of any scholarships for international applicants but there is a very high population of international students at the university. I was awarded the academic excellence scholarship and granted $7000 a year which significantly reduced my costs annually. I also have a university grant that was offered for financial aid. UConn now provides tuition-free for students from a family who make under a certain amount of income.
