Indian applicants apply on the standard F-1 visa route through the SEVIS I-20 issued by USF World, with STEM-designated majors extending post-study work eligibility. Annual living costs in Tampa remain lower than most coastal US metros, and detailed study in USA planning fits inside the USF I-20 financial threshold below.

University of South Florida Admission 2027
University of South Florida operates three intakes each year, and Fall (August) remains the primary cycle for Indian graduate applicants. The full admission workflow, document checklists and waiver rules sit in the Admissions silo linked below.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 international application close | October 1, 2026 | Applies to most graduate programmes; some engineering programmes close earlier |
| Summer 2027 international application close | February 1, 2027 | Limited programme availability; verify per department |
| Fall 2027 priority deadline | Expected March 1, 2027 (based on prior cycle) | Best for scholarship consideration and I-20 processing time |
| Credential verification (WES) | Start 6 to 8 weeks before deadline | Course-by-course WES ICAP evaluation required for Indian degrees |
| Programme start (Fall 2027) | August 2027 | International orientation typically one week before classes |
[Source: University of South Florida International Admissions]
Planning note: Indian applicants should begin WES evaluation the moment mark sheets are issued, since delays here are the single biggest reason USF admits miss the I-20 issuance window and lose their intended intake.

University of South Florida Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The bar for USF admission requirements for Indian applicants is a recognised bachelor’s, a qualifying English test score and course-by-course credential verification.
- Bachelor’s academic: Four-year bachelor’s or approved three-year degree; minimum CGPA 3.0 on 4.0 scale which maps to approximately 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 on the Indian scale (recommended, verify at the USF Graduate School page).
- English requirement: TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo English Test 110. Verify current scoring at the USF English requirements page.
- Credential verification: Course-by-course WES ICAP evaluation for all Indian degrees; mandatory before final admission decision.
- Standardised tests: GRE is waived for most USF masters programmes since 2021, and GMAT is optional for the Muma MBA but recommended above 550 for scholarship review.
University of South Florida Undergraduate Admission Requirements 2027
- Academic: Class 12 completion with 75% aggregate or above from a recognised board (CBSE, ISC or State) is the practical threshold for admission consideration.
- English: TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, PTE 53, or Duolingo 110; SAT is optional but recommended in the 1150 to 1310 band for merit scholarship review.
Key insight: Indian students who studied their bachelor’s in English medium can request a TOEFL/IELTS waiver by submitting a formal letter from their Indian university registrar confirming the medium of instruction; USF accepts this for most graduate programmes on a case-by-case basis.
University of South Florida Acceptance Rate 2027
University of South Florida reports an overall acceptance rate of 29.55% for the 2025-26 cycle, but the international acceptance rate stands significantly higher at 88.19% because international applicants self-select against posted score cutoffs. Both figures are officially published by USF and update annually.
| Category | Acceptance Rate 2025-26 | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Overall (all applicants) | 29.55% | Official (USF Common Data Set) |
| International applicants | 88.19% | Official (USF World reporting) |
The USF international acceptance rate should not be read as an unconditional welcome; it reflects that most Indian applicants who apply already meet the CGPA and English score minimums. Programme-level rates in Computer Science, Business Analytics and MBA sit tighter than the aggregate.
Reality check: Indian applicants with CGPA under 6.0/10 or TOEFL below 79 rarely convert at USF regardless of the headline 88% international acceptance rate; strength of application, statement of purpose and recommender fit close the gap for borderline profiles.

University of South Florida Campus, Facilities and Student Life
USF operates three campuses in west-central Florida: the flagship 1,646-acre Tampa main campus, the waterfront St. Petersburg campus and the Sarasota-Manatee campus, all within a 90-minute drive of each other.
- Location and transport: The Tampa campus sits 15 minutes from downtown Tampa; the free on-campus Bull Runner shuttle serves academic buildings and residence halls, and HART city buses connect to Tampa International Airport in 25 minutes.
- Housing: On-campus housing costs USD 6,800 to 12,500 per academic year (INR 5.98 to 11 lakh) and is guaranteed for first-year students who apply by the housing deadline; upper-year international students typically move off-campus.
- Facilities: The USF Health complex, the Judy Genshaft Honors College building and the 24-hour library are the most-used student spaces alongside the recreation and wellness centre.
- Indian community: The Indian Students Association at USF runs Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events, and Tampa’s Hindu temple and Indian grocery corridor sit within a 20-minute drive of campus.
What Indian students say: Reviewers highlight the strong industry pipeline into Tampa’s finance, healthcare and cybersecurity employers, and the year-round warm Florida weather that keeps outdoor life active outside class. Common criticism centres on hurricane-season disruption in September and limited direct international flight options versus Miami or Orlando.
University of South Florida Scholarships 2027
USF offers primarily need-agnostic graduate assistantships and departmental funding for international postgraduate students; direct international entrance scholarships are limited compared to private US universities.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USF Graduate Assistantships (Teaching / Research) | Departmental funding | USD 12,000 to 25,000 per year (INR 10.56 to 22 lakh) plus tuition waiver | Admitted PG students; department-nominated | Rolling; apply with programme application |
| Muma College of Business Scholarships | Merit | Varies (verify at USF official scholarships page) | Admitted MBA and business masters students | Aligned with programme deadline |
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship | External (Government of USA / USIEF India) | Full tuition plus stipend | Indian nationals with 55% Class 12 and strong bachelor’s; separate USIEF application | Verify current cycle at USIEF India |
Planning note: Indian applicants secure USF funding overwhelmingly through departmental TA and RA offers rather than named entrance scholarships; the strongest lever is reaching out to potential faculty advisers with a targeted research fit email before the admission deadline.

At subject level, USF holds an ARWU GRAS 2025 global rank of #18 in Library and Information Science and #24 in Transportation Science and Technology, and features in the QS Masters Supply Chain Management 2026 ranking at #71-80. The THE Impact Rankings 2025 place USF at #47 globally for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
Key insight: The US News #357 global position keeps USF comfortably inside the Category 1 tier used by Indian public sector banks for education loan approval, and satisfies employer prescreening at most Indian IT services firms that filter by top-500 US institution status.
University of South Florida Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
USF Career Services runs employer partnerships with Tampa Bay’s finance, healthcare, cybersecurity and defence employers, and STEM-designated masters unlock 36 months of OPT for Indian graduates on the F-1 visa.
- Median starting salary (MS graduates): USD 65,000 to 80,000 per year (INR 57.2 to 70.4 lakh) — market median for USF STEM masters, verify at USF Career Services outcomes report
- Muma MBA median post-MBA salary: USD 85,000 to 100,000 per year (INR 74.8 to 88 lakh) — market median
- Top recruiter sectors: Cybersecurity and defence (Raytheon, Booz Allen Hamilton), healthcare systems, Tampa Bay banking, and technology consulting
- Career support: Handshake job portal, on-campus career fairs each semester, and dedicated international student advisers for CPT and OPT paperwork
- Post-study visa: 12 months OPT for all graduates plus a 24-month STEM OPT extension for eligible majors
Insider note: Indian USF graduates in cybersecurity and data analytics see the strongest local Tampa Bay hiring pipeline; those targeting west coast tech employers report needing to relocate to California or Texas within six months of OPT start for interview traction.
University of South Florida vs Peer Universities
The natural peer set for USF comprises public research universities in Florida and the wider US south with similar Indian student volumes and comparable non-resident tuition bands.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad USA | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of South Florida | #761-770 | #308 of 357 | 16,666 / 14.67 lakh | Strong ARWU GRAS subject ranks; low Tampa living costs |
| University of Central Florida (UCF) | NA (verify at QS) | NA | 17,000 / 14.96 lakh (estimated) | Larger cohort; strong Orlando hospitality and simulation industry pipeline |
| Florida State University (FSU) | NA (verify at QS) | NA | 19,000 / 16.72 lakh (estimated) | Higher research intensity; capital city Tallahassee employer network |
| University of Florida (UF) | NA (verify at QS) | NA | 30,130 / 26.51 lakh (estimated) | Highest-ranked Florida public; more selective admission |
| Arizona State University (ASU) | NA (verify at QS) | NA | 29,000 / 25.52 lakh (estimated) | Larger Indian community; broader online masters catalogue |
USF stands out for its combination of R1 research intensity, mid-band US News global rank, and the lowest total cost of attendance in the Florida public system for masters students. Indian applicants who value Tampa’s cost profile and cybersecurity or health sciences focus prefer USF over Orlando or Gainesville alternatives.
USF is the right fit for Indian students seeking a research-oriented US public university at a manageable total cost of INR 33 to 47 lakh per year, with STEM-designated masters that convert cleanly into a 36-month OPT runway and Tampa Bay’s growing cybersecurity and healthcare hiring market. The single strongest advantage is the H-1B post-study work visa pathway that STEM OPT builds toward.
USF is not the right choice for applicants chasing top-100 QS prestige, those targeting the most selective US public research pipelines, or students who need guaranteed named international entrance scholarships. Realistic alternative: Arizona State University, which offers comparable STEM masters at a slightly higher fee band but with a larger established Indian community and more scholarship visibility.
University of South Florida FAQs
Ques. Does University of South Florida require GRE for MS Computer Science admission?
Ans. USF waived the GRE requirement for most masters programmes including MS Computer Science from 2021 onwards, and this waiver has continued through the 2026-27 cycle. Indian applicants can submit an application without GRE scores, though a strong score above 315 can strengthen borderline profiles and help unlock departmental assistantship consideration. Verify the current cycle policy on the USF Graduate School programme page before finalising your application.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at USF during their studies?
Ans. Yes, F-1 visa holders at USF can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during regular semesters and 40 hours during official breaks. Common roles include library assistant, teaching assistant, research assistant and dining services. Off-campus work requires Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorisation, typically available after two semesters of enrolment, or Optional Practical Training (OPT) after programme completion.
Ques. What is the application fee for USF international students?
Ans. The USF international application fee is USD 30 (INR 2,640) for undergraduate applications and USD 30 to 40 (INR 2,640 to 3,520) for graduate applications, paid online at submission. USF does not routinely offer application fee waivers to international applicants. Payment must be made by credit card at the time of application; incomplete or unpaid applications are not reviewed by the admissions committee.
Ques. How long is OPT for MS graduates from University of South Florida?
Ans. MS graduates from USF receive 12 months of standard Optional Practical Training under F-1 rules. Graduates of STEM-designated masters programmes such as MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity, MS Business Analytics and MS Data Science qualify for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, bringing total post-study work authorisation to 36 months. Applications are filed with USCIS through USF World’s international student services office.
Ques. Which documents are needed for USF transcript verification?
Ans. USF requires a course-by-course WES ICAP evaluation for all Indian undergraduate degrees, submitted directly from World Education Services to the USF Graduate School. Indian applicants must send sealed official mark sheets and degree certificates to WES for evaluation. WES processing takes approximately 7 to 20 business days after receipt of all documents, so start the evaluation at least eight weeks before your USF application deadline.
Ques. Are online masters programmes at USF eligible for F-1 visa sponsorship?
Ans. No, fully online masters programmes at USF do not qualify for F-1 visa sponsorship as US Department of State rules require in-person or hybrid enrolment for I-20 issuance. Indian students seeking an F-1 visa must enrol in an on-campus programme at the Tampa, St. Petersburg or Sarasota-Manatee campus. Online-only USF programmes are open to Indian students studying from India without visa requirements.
Ques. What is the refund policy at USF if an Indian student withdraws?
Ans. USF follows a graduated tuition refund schedule based on withdrawal date. Full refund applies if you drop before the first day of classes; 25% refund for withdrawal during the first week; no refund after the fourth week of the semester. International students should notify USF World before withdrawal to maintain SEVIS record integrity. Health insurance and mandatory fees are non-refundable after the drop deadline.
Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise University of South Florida?
Ans. USF sits inside the approved institution list of major Indian education loan providers including SBI Global Ed-Vantage, HDFC Credila, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Avanse Financial Services. Loan amounts up to INR 1.5 crore are available for USF admits, typically covering full tuition, living costs and one-way airfare. Interest rates start from around 9.5% per annum with Indian collateral security.

- Library is very useful, has so many books and peaceful too. We also get free softwares which help in studies. The computer labs are also available if you don’t have your own setup.
- Campus is really clean and green. I feel relaxed walking around. It’s not too crowded or noisy so it helps me focus on my classes and assignments. Also feels very safe.
- There are many student jobs inside the campus like in dining, library or offices. It helped me earn and learn at the same time. I got one in my late first semester.
Dislikes
- Very stressful. Courses get full fast and you have to keep checking. Sometimes you miss good subjects.
- Housing and financial aid take time to reply. Not good when you need something quickly.
- Most food places close early. Not helpful if you have late classes or work.
Campus Life

The University of South Florida has three main campuses:
- Tampa (main campus)
- St. Petersburg
- Sarasota-Manatee
- The Tampa campus is the largest and has all major facilities like a library, gym and sports complex, student center, health center, and cafeterias.
- There are many student clubs and organizations based on interests like culture, technology, music, dance, entrepreneurship, and volunteering. USF also has sports teams and offers facilities for football, basketball, swimming, and tennis.
- Popular events and fests include USF Week, Bullstock, Homecoming, and International Festival. These include concerts, food events, games, and performances.
- Students can join cultural clubs, coding groups, sports teams, or student government. There’s something for everyone, and joining these helps with networking, fun, and skill-building outside the classroom.
Fees
- For my MS in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics at the University of South Florida, the total tuition fee for the entire program was around $30,000. In addition to tuition, I spent about $12,000 on housing and around $2,000 on other fees, such as health insurance, technology, and student activity fees.
- The fee structure at USF is semester-wise. Each semester, I was billed based on the number of credit hours I registered for. On average, a 3-credit course costs around $1,000–$1,200 per course, and international students typically take 9 credit hours per semester.

Overview
I chose this college due to its nice academic structure and also good ranking of the college. I also chose this because of the environment of the college.
Campus Life
I have attended a couple of events which were hosted by different clubs. It's fun. You can interact with different people from different countries. You can participate in the events as well.

- My work and research focus areas involve Cyber-Physical Systems, ML and Cyber-Security, and the CS program is structured with respect to focus mainly on these 3 areas, also I was recommend by my Principal, CSE at Amrita under whom I did my final year project to go with this university.
- The best part of the my university if the student life, It is much more relaxed out here at the same time provides great opportunities and exposure towards the industry (for my specific program), also the campus is very diverse with respect to culture and ethnicity with allows me to interact and network with a wider community
Dislikes
- The college is pretty large spanning around 1500 acres, although the college offers free shuttle buses across 10 different routes for students, there is still a lot of walking around involved when commuting and it is very easy to get lost in a sea of students coming in (over 41,000 every year)
Overview
My overall experience at USF has been fantastic, I am pretty confident that this University will help me achieve my career goal, help me refine myself and help me explore the cosmos of the CS community.
Campus Life
Apart from the lengthy commute, the campus life is one of the best things here, from regularly hosted events, extracurricular activities and parties from nearly 1000+ clubs in the campus to best in class facilities like the massive Library which hosts a plethora of books and digital content accessible from anywhere. WiFi is available for free to the students with great speeds, there is a wide array of sports facilities from gyms (which is free for the students) to giant pitches for American Football, baseball, athletics etc. The main highlight are the research facilities at USF, with a budget of nearly 2.5 billion dollars, nearly 40% of the amount is used to upkeep the research facilities with state of the art labs and systems.

- Research and lab facility is good comparative to other universities I got admission in.
- The research in this college is too good. The professors will guide you in the topics and also share the book to be read by us. The infrastructure is awesome. The lab facility in every department is commendable with every single device required for research.
Dislikes
- Mostly every thing is good apart from the too hot weather of Tampa. The temperatures are less compared to India but the skin burns with the high UV in the sunlight. It's somewhat hard to find the buildings which we need to attend the class
Overview
Good until now as I came for fall 2023 itself.
Campus Life
Infrastructure is super good with world class library of six floors and filled with books for 4 floors.
Overview
I had an internship at USF. The internship was based on a fellowship, Building Energy Efficiency Higher and Advanced Network (BHAVAN) provided by Indo US Science and Technology (IUSSTF) and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Campus Life
The campus life was very good. I have many beautiful memories of the campus. We have been provided all the research facilities. There were so many clubs and societies related to different activities. We has a group of more than 10 friends and there were more than 1000 fellow countrymen in the university.
Overview
I chose the University Of South Florida for its excellence in academics and stem programs and because the campus is beautiful. I chose USF based on the STEM fair that my school took us back in 7th and 8th grade and I just fell in love with the school as a whole.
Fees
There are fees included in tuition but I don't really know what they are exactly, there's an annual $50 housing fee if you live on campus, IDs cost $10, and there's the prices of housing and meal plans along with tuition rates.
Overview
I opted for this particular college because they have a very good education program. Graduates from the University of South Florida have a 99% chance of obtaining a job right out of college. I found this very appealing.
Fees
I don't really know all the fees. I just pay my tuition by semester but I know there are a couple of fees on there for sure. They are probably a couple of hundred dollars each.
Overview
Tuition was affordable and the school was near my home. The school is clean and the people are friendly. There?s good transportation systems on campus as well as many programs to help students get used to living.
Fees
It was with tuition, miscellaneous charges, and transportation fees. Some charges include green fees for solar.
