  • Next Fall 2027 deadline: Graduate applications for the Fall 2027 primary intake close on 15 July 2027, and undergraduate applications close on 1 June 2027.
  • Eligibility floor (recommended): UG needs Class XII completion with a strong academic record, PG needs a four-year Bachelor’s with a 3.0 GPA (around 60%), and the English floor is IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79.
  • Acceptance rate: Around 62% for international applicants based on the most recent published Fall admission cycle at UWM.

Indian students most commonly apply for MS Computer Science, the Lubar MBA, and MS Health Informatics at Wisconsin Milwaukee, and cite the multi-intake calendar and free undergraduate application as their main decision drivers. University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Application Deadlines for Indian Students

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee runs three intakes a year for international students. The dates below are drawn from the Center for International Education graduate admissions page and the bachelor’s admissions page, and reflect the last date by which Indian applicants must submit so the CIE can issue an I-20 in time for a US visa interview.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use USD 1 = INR 95.24, the live rate in August 2026.

UWM’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall, since most bachelor’s and master’s programs open here and the CIE targets full I-20 issuance ahead of India’s peak visa season.

Intake Level Application Deadline
Fall 2027 (Primary intake) Undergraduate 1 June 2027
Fall 2027 (Primary intake) Graduate 15 July 2027
Spring 2027 Undergraduate 1 December 2026
Spring 2027 Graduate (most programs) 1 January 2027
Spring 2027 (MS Computer Science) Graduate 15 September 2026

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility at UWM has two floors, one academic and one for English. Both are set at the institution level, and every graduate program adds its own subject prerequisites on top. Bachelor’s applicants need Class XII completion; master’s applicants need a four-year Bachelor’s on a 3.0 GPA scale, which UWM’s Graduate School treats as roughly a 60% Indian aggregate.

  • UG academic floor (recommended): Class XII completion from a recognised Indian board, evaluated on grades, class rank, and course rigour.
  • PG academic floor: Four-year Bachelor’s from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA on the 4.0 scale, approximately 60% Indian aggregate.

English proficiency scores must be under two years old at the point of application. UWM’s minimums apply across every program and level, though individual programs (Lubar MBA, MS Nursing, School of Information Studies) can require higher.

Test Undergraduate (Full Admission) Graduate (Regular Admission)
IELTS 6.0+ (some older pages show 6.5) 6.5
TOEFL iBT 4.0+ 4.5
PTE Academic 46+ 58

UWM Application Process for Indian Students

UWM manages the international application through its own applicant portal, not the Common Application. Undergraduate and graduate applicants both apply directly to the CIE portal, which routes the file to the academic unit for review after basic eligibility clears.

  1. Create an account on the UWM applicant portal for the correct level (bachelor’s or graduate) and intake.
  2. Complete the application form including academic history, English proficiency, and program choice. Graduate applicants add a program-specific statement of purpose and letters of reference.
  3. Pay the application fee of USD 75 (around INR 7,143) on the UWM applicant portal for graduate programs; undergraduate applications have no application fee to pay.
  4. Upload supporting documents including transcripts, degree certificates, English test report, passport bio page, and financial proof.
  5. Submit and track the file through the portal dashboard. CIE issues a checklist within two weeks flagging any missing item.
  6. Accept the offer and request the I-20 once admitted; UWM charges an International Student Processing Fee at this stage.

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Admission Decisions Timeline

UWM publishes a two to four week turnaround for undergraduate applications once the file is complete. Graduate decisions vary by department, with Lubar and the College of Engineering typically returning within four to six weeks and health sciences and nursing running eight to ten weeks because of clinical prerequisite reviews.

  • Offer letter timing: Two to four weeks after a complete undergraduate file; four to ten weeks for graduate programs depending on department.
  • Acceptance deadline: Confirm in writing within four weeks of the offer to trigger I-20 issuance.
  • Conditional offers: UWM issues conditional offers where an English score is short of the floor; the condition clears on IELTS retake or an English Language Academy bridge.
  • Deferral policy: Admitted students may request a one-semester or one-year deferral; visa denials are a routinely accepted reason.

Documents Required for UWM Applications

UWM asks Indian applicants for a paperwork bundle that fits into three groups: identity, academic evidence, and financial proof. All non-English documents need certified English translations to accompany the original.

  • Valid Indian passport bio page (with at least six months validity past intended entry).
  • Certified transcripts from every secondary school and university attended, in English.
  • Degree certificate or provisional certificate for graduate applicants who have completed the Bachelor’s.
  • Statement of Purpose outlining academic goals and reasons for choosing UWM (graduate applicants).
  • Letters of recommendation from academic or professional referees where the target program requires them.
  • English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo) uploaded to the portal.
  • Financial documentation showing funds equivalent to one year of tuition and living expenses, needed for the I-20.
  • Standardised test scores (GMAT/GRE) where the target program requires them.
  • Passport-style photograph and, for admitted students, receipt of the USD 200 International Student Processing Fee.

UWM Acceptance Rate for International Students

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee is an access-oriented public research university, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its published academic and English floors rather than triaging against a hard selectivity target. The international acceptance rate is meaningfully lower than the overall figure because the CIE reviews visa fitness alongside academic fit.

International vs Institutional Acceptance Rate

The international acceptance rate is estimated at around 62% for the most recent published Fall admission cycle, based on the applied-to-admitted ratio for that year (roughly 1,054 admits from 1,307 applicants). The overall institutional acceptance rate sits closer to 93 to 95% because the domestic-heavy pool is broader.

How to Strengthen an Indian Application

Indian applicants improve their chances by clearing the English floor comfortably (IELTS 7.0 or above), submitting a target-program-specific statement of purpose, and showing consistent academic progression across Bachelor’s semesters. See the ranking band for context on UWM’s academic positioning against peer US research universities.

Reality check: A 62% international acceptance rate does not mean 62% get their first-choice program at UWM. Departmental cut-offs at Lubar, MS Computer Science, and MS Nursing can be materially higher, especially in Fall.

University of Wisconsin Milwaukee admissions reward early, structured Indian applications more than raw academic overperformance. Fall is the intake with the widest program access; the free undergraduate application and the modest USD 75 graduate application fee lower the cost of applying; and the CIE’s English-medium waiver removes IELTS overhead for most Indian school-leavers.

Scholarship

  • I got a scholarship amount of 6,000 USD. Yeah, there are so many scholarships available for my course, and most of the students get the Dean's Non-Residential Scholarship, which is around $3,000. In your ?rst semester, you will get $1,500, and if you get a CGPA of 3.5 or above in your ?rst semester, you are eligible to get another $1,500 in your second semester.
