University of New Haven is a private, non-profit research university in West Haven, Connecticut, founded on the Yale campus in 1920. The institution is ranked #76 among Regional Universities North in the US News Best Colleges 2026 edition.

The university operates through five colleges (Arts & Sciences, Pompea College of Business, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice & Forensic Sciences, Tagliatela College of Engineering, and the School of Health Sciences), offering more than 100 bachelor’s and over 60 master’s, doctoral, and certificate programmes taught entirely in English. Indian applicants form part of an unusually large international cohort of 3,705 learners across the campus, with Cybersecurity, Business Analytics, and Data Science drawing the largest Indian enrolments. The Fall intake remains the primary window for Indian applicants seeking to study MS in USA, while Spring offers a secondary route into select programmes.

  • US News Regional Universities North 2026: #76
  • Acceptance rate: 88% to 91% (estimated)
  • Intakes: Fall (primary) and Spring (secondary)
  • Graduate full-time tuition 2026-27: $21,330 per year (₹20.41 lakh)

AI in Business and Analytics, all of which unlock the 24-month OPT extension. The Occupational Therapy and Physician Associate programmes carry the highest sticker price and shortest OPT window, so most Indian graduates prefer the STEM masters route for return on investment.

University of New Haven Admission 2027

University of New Haven runs two intakes per academic year for Indian applicants: Fall (August start) is the primary window with the widest programme choice, and Spring (January start) admits into select master’s programmes on a smaller cohort basis. Ten graduate programmes accept Fall entry only, including Criminal Justice Ph.D., Executive MBA, M.S. Forensic Science, M.S. Nutrition Sciences, M.S. Occupational Therapy, and M.M.S. Physician Associate.

Planning note: Indian applicants targeting the Fall 2027 intake should aim to submit by early April 2027, keeping four weeks of buffer for WES evaluation, visa slot booking, and I-20 processing. Applications received after May 1 are still reviewed on a rolling basis, but assistantship funding depletes quickly once priority rounds close.

University of New Haven Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants must clear four thresholds: academic eligibility, English proficiency, credential verification, and the standard application package. Requirements vary by college, with Tagliatela Engineering setting slightly lower English minima than Business, Arts & Sciences, and Health Sciences.

University of New Haven Postgraduate Admission Requirements

  • Academic eligibility: A four-year Indian bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); three-year bachelor’s holders must submit a WES course-by-course evaluation OR add a Master’s or one-year PG Diploma from a recognised university.
  • English proficiency (Engineering): TOEFL iBT 75 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.0, PTE 50, or Duolingo 105.
  • English proficiency (Arts & Sciences, Business, Health, Criminal Justice): TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE 53, or Duolingo 105. M.S. Speech-Language Pathology requires TOEFL iBT 100. Doctorate applicants require TOEFL iBT 100, IELTS 7.5, PTE 68, or Duolingo 125.
  • Credential and document package: Semester-by-semester mark sheets (consolidated statements alone are not accepted), Statement of Purpose, three Letters of Recommendation, updated CV; GRE optional for most engineering and business programmes; $50 application fee.

University of New Haven Undergraduate Admission Requirements

  • Academic eligibility: Class 12 completion with 65% to 85% (recommended), depending on programme; science stream required for Forensic Science and Engineering pathways.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 75 (0-120 legacy scale), PTE 53, Duolingo 105, or SAT EBRW 450.

Note: WES course-by-course evaluations take four to six weeks and cost roughly $220. Indian applicants with three-year B.Com, B.Sc., or B.A. degrees must plan this step first, as University of New Haven cannot issue a decision until the evaluation report reaches the graduate admissions office.

University of New Haven Acceptance Rate 2027

University of New Haven has not published an official institutional acceptance rate for the 2026 or 2027 cycles. Third-party estimates place the acceptance rate between 88% and 91% (estimated), positioning the university as a high-admit institution within the US regional-private tier. This estimate is drawn from aggregated admissions databases and should be read as directional, not authoritative.

Admission remains competitive within specific high-demand programmes such as M.S. Cybersecurity, M.M.S. Physician Associate, and M.S. Occupational Therapy, where cohort sizes cap intake despite the broader institutional admit rate. Programme-level admit rates are not disclosed by the university.

Reality check: A high overall acceptance rate does not translate to automatic admission for Indian applicants. Weak academic backgrounds, missing WES evaluation, or below-threshold English scores routinely trigger rejections or conditional offers requiring the bridge English programme. Meet the published minima before applying.

University of New Haven Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027

Total annual cost of attendance for an on-campus international graduate student at University of New Haven runs approximately $52,510 per year, or ₹50.24 lakh, combining full-time tuition and mandatory living expenses. Undergraduate on-campus cost is higher at approximately $80,552 per year, or ₹77.07 lakh, driven by the higher undergraduate tuition rate. Actual outlay drops significantly when Provost’s Assistantship or Dean’s Scholarship funding is awarded, and off-campus housing options offer further savings compared with on-campus rates. Read alongside guides for MS in USA to benchmark against other regional-tier options.

University of New Haven Campus, Facilities and Student Life

University of New Haven sits on an 82-acre residential campus in West Haven, Connecticut, roughly 90 minutes from New York City by commuter rail and 20 minutes from downtown New Haven. The campus is walkable, self-contained, and designed around undergraduate residential life with graduate housing available at Atwood Hall and off-campus apartments.

  • Location and transport: West Haven Metro-North station connects to New Haven Union Station (10 minutes) and New York Grand Central (2 hours), giving direct rail access to New York City internships and East Coast recruiter events.
  • On-campus housing: First-year undergraduates are guaranteed housing; graduate housing is limited, and roughly 60% of PG international students move off-campus by the second semester.
  • Signature facilities: The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science operates one of the few dedicated forensic laboratory complexes on a US university campus, alongside a Connected Cybersecurity Innovation Center.
  • Indian student community: Active Indian Student Association hosts Diwali, Holi, and Republic Day events; halal and Indian grocery stores operate within a 15-minute drive in Orange and West Haven.

What Indian students say: Peer feedback consistently highlights the compact campus and easy access to Cybersecurity and Forensic Sciences faculty. Common concerns cover limited graduate on-campus housing and the cost of Connecticut winters, both manageable with early apartment hunting and one warm coat. Career service quality is rated highly for STEM masters routes but weaker for MBA-only tracks.

University of New Haven Scholarships 2027

University of New Haven awards merit-based tuition assistance to nearly all admitted international master’s students. Two university-wide programmes anchor the graduate funding landscape, alongside college-level departmental awards and one undergraduate merit band ranging from $15,000 to $32,000 per year for admitted international freshers. No India-nationality-specific scholarship is currently listed by the university, but Indian applicants routinely secure the marquee awards below on academic merit alone. Similar merit pathways exist across peer routes for the MBA in USA segment.

Planning note: Provost’s Assistantship funding is finite and closes with each priority round, so Indian applicants targeting Fall 2027 should complete the application and secure admission before March 1, 2027 for the strongest funding odds. Dean’s Scholarship notifications typically follow admission decisions within four to six weeks.

University of New Haven Rankings 2027

University of New Haven is not currently ranked in the QS World or Times Higher Education global tables. The strongest recent ranking is US News Best Colleges 2026, which places the university at #76 among Regional Universities North, with subject-level positions in undergraduate engineering and veterans’ education. Founded on the campus of neighbouring Yale University in 1920, the institution has since built a regional-tier reputation rather than a research-heavy global-tier profile.

Key insight: The absence of a QS or THE global rank does not affect F-1 visa issuance or Indian employer recognition for STEM master’s graduates, since US regional accreditation and OPT eligibility carry the weight. Indian applicants targeting family-preference visa profiles or PSU India roles should note that global-rank verification (QS top 500) is not met here.

University of New Haven Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

University of New Haven does not publish a consolidated first-destination employment report broken down by international-graduate cohort. The Career Development Center operates programme-specific outcomes tracking, with the strongest documented outcomes in Cybersecurity, Business Analytics, and Forensic Sciences.

  • Master’s starting salary (US STEM market median): $75,000 (₹71.76 lakh); Cybersecurity and Analytics roles frequently break $85,000.
  • MBA post-programme median (US market benchmark): $80,000 to $95,000 (₹76.55 lakh to ₹90.90 lakh) for regional-tier private MBAs.
  • Sector recruiters: Cybersecurity graduates target Deloitte, EY, PwC, IBM, and mid-sized Northeast-corridor consultancies; university-specific recruiter lists are not officially disclosed.
  • OPT and career visa: All STEM-designated master’s programmes qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving Indian graduates up to 36 months of US work authorisation on the F-1 visa.
  • Career services: Individual coaching, resume clinics, and campus recruitment events run through the Career Development Center; internship placement is credit-bearing in most master’s programmes.

Insider note: Cybersecurity and Business Analytics cohorts consistently report the strongest H1B sponsorship rates among Indian graduates, given the alignment with employer skill-shortage lists. MBA-only graduates without a STEM concentration face tighter sponsorship windows and should plan for consulting or product-management pivots.

University of New Haven vs Peer Universities

Peer benchmarking uses similar-tier private US regional universities that Indian students shortlist alongside University of New Haven. Comparison focuses on tuition band and programme differentiation rather than global-tier rankings, which are absent across this peer set.

UniversityUS News Regional / National PositioningAvg Annual PG TuitionDifferentiator for Indian Students
University of New Haven#76 Regional North 2026$21,330 (₹20.41 lakh)Cybersecurity and Forensic Sciences depth; STEM OPT for all engineering masters

University of New Haven stands out through its Henry C. Lee College forensic laboratories and dedicated Cybersecurity Innovation Center, neither of which peer institutions match at comparable tuition. Indian applicants weighing this shortlist can benchmark side-by-side via University of New Haven vs Yale University and University of New Haven vs University of North Texas.

University of New Haven fits Indian applicants seeking a STEM master’s in Cybersecurity, Forensic Sciences, or Business Analytics on a total budget of roughly ₹95 lakh over two years, against a US STEM starting salary median near ₹72 lakh. The Provost’s Assistantship at 75% tuition support meaningfully compresses that outlay for admitted candidates and represents the single strongest financial advantage on offer.

The university is not the right choice for applicants who require a QS or THE top-500 rank for scholarship or visa profiling reasons, nor for those seeking a Tier-1 MBA return-on-investment profile. Applicants in that bracket should look at Stevens Institute of Technology or Northeastern University as realistic alternatives with stronger global-tier recognition.

University of New Haven FAQs

Ques. Does University of New Haven waive the GRE for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, the GRE is optional for most Tagliatela College of Engineering and Pompea College of Business master’s programmes for Indian applicants. Admissions weighs undergraduate CGPA, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, and work experience instead. A strong GRE score can still support scholarship consideration and offset a weaker undergraduate transcript, particularly for the M.S. Computer Science and M.S. Data Science cohorts, where competition for Provost’s Assistantship funding is highest.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at University of New Haven on an F-1 visa?

Ans. Indian students on F-1 status can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during academic terms and full-time during official breaks. Off-campus employment requires Curricular Practical Training authorisation, typically available after one full academic year of enrolment. University of New Haven’s International Services Office issues CPT approvals, and the Career Development Center helps identify on-campus roles in libraries, research labs, and student services.

Ques. How does the Provost’s Assistantship application work at University of New Haven?

Ans. Admitted master’s students apply through the graduate portal after receiving their offer letter, submitting a resume and statement of interest to specific departments. Recipients commit 15 to 20 hours per week (550 hours annually) to research or teaching, receiving 75% tuition assistance plus an hourly wage. Indian applicants targeting Fall 2027 should aim for the March 1, 2027 Priority One deadline, since funding depletes across successive review rounds.

Ques. What is the application fee for University of New Haven, and is a waiver available?

Ans. The graduate application fee is $50, payable via credit card at portal submission. Undergraduate applicants apply through the Common Application, which uses its own fee structure. Fee waivers are available for applicants demonstrating financial hardship, veterans, participants in EducationUSA advising, and attendees of specific university-hosted recruitment events. Indian applicants should request waivers directly from the graduate admissions office before submitting, since retroactive waivers are not processed.

Ques. Which Indian education loans cover University of New Haven?

Ans. All major Indian education lenders recognise University of New Haven for loan disbursement, including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, ICICI Bank, SBI Global Ed-Vantage, and Union Bank of India. Collateral-free loans up to ₹50 lakh are common through NBFCs like Credila and Prodigy Finance, while public-sector banks typically require collateral for the full COA. Applicants should submit the I-20 and admission letter alongside co-applicant income proof for fastest processing.

Ques. What dependent visa rules apply at University of New Haven for Indian students?

Ans. Spouses and children under 21 of University of New Haven F-1 students can accompany the primary applicant on F-2 dependent visas. F-2 spouses cannot work in the US or enrol in full-time degree programmes, though part-time non-credit study is permitted. Indian applicants must show additional financial proof of roughly $10,000 per dependent per year on top of the primary I-20 amount for the visa officer at Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, or Kolkata.

Ques. Does University of New Haven issue conditional offers to Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, University of New Haven issues conditional admission offers to Indian applicants who meet academic requirements but fall short of the English proficiency minimum. Conditional students enrol in the Intensive English Programme run on campus, progressing to full degree status after clearing internal English proficiency tests. Applicants with IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 65 to 74 are typical candidates, with the pathway adding one semester to programme duration.

Ques. How long does WES credential evaluation take for University of New Haven applications?

Ans. WES course-by-course evaluations for Indian bachelor’s degrees typically take four to six weeks from document receipt, costing roughly $220 for the standard timeline. Indian universities like Delhi University, Mumbai University, and IITs process transcript verification requests within two to three weeks of the WES query. Indian applicants targeting the May 1 Fall priority deadline should initiate WES by mid-February 2027 to allow adequate buffer for both transcript authentication and evaluation.

  • Yes, there is an app called navigate where you can access events happening daily on campus and there are a lot of free goodies.
  • There is an event called a career fair, which is of no use to international students. That can be skipped.
    • Health centre
    • Library
    • Gym
    • Sports
  • The Indian student council conducts all Indian festivals. Has performances and every country has a different student council.
  • Sports are mostly for local domestic students.

Fees

  • The college has credit-based fees
  • My tuition fees for 2 years were $32,000.
  • I paid for cengage books during my coursework: $125 + $100.
  • I think I paid a $325 deposit to confirm my seat after accepting my offer.
  • Once you receive your I-20 then there are expenses related to visa processing.
  • Accommodation depends on the place you choose.
  • I lived off campus close to college
    • Rent: $400-$500 per month
    • Transportation: the college provides a student bus pass for $40 per semester (occasionally free) for public transport outside campus. College shuttles are free
  • Groceries would be : $150-300 depending on the what you want per month
  • Total estimate would be $800-$1000 if you were to be a bit lavish!

  • There were many events across the semester. There was an international students committee that organized some events like Holi, Diwali, etc. There were also cricket, football, and badminton matches. There were many clubs for dance, music, football, volleyball, badminton, and soccer. Every weekend there used to be some or other event on campus where we could participate.

Fees

  • Per credit hour, it is $1092. Usually, for each course, we get 3 credit hours, which is 3*1092=3276
  • I stayed off campus and usually it costs around 500 usd for room and all others might be around 400 .
  • We are charged per semester.
  • Monthly expenses might be around 900 usd . Connecticut has good bus transportation and the university provides a per-semester bus pass, which is only 40 USD.

Overview

I chose this university because this is one in my budget range and has a good reputation among all the admits I received. I would rate an overall of 7 for 10. The campus has good resources like labs, libraries, a career development centre, and many more to use for the sake of students. I am very passionate about data-driven decision making so I opted for Business analytics as my major.

This is the most interesting part we do have a lot of events going on every day on campus. We do celebrate every occasion irrespective of community caste religion etc. On-campus wifi is free and we do have a soccer stadium on campus and a few indoor games for refreshments. The gym is also there as a recreation for students.

Overview

In term of curriculum it was good but in terms of placements it was not so good you need to improve your skills and job search by yourself. My main factor was scholarship and easy admission without any rejection.

Overview

It was a good experience. A good place is not its location but its people. I was fortunate to have met good friends and good professors which made my time in Connecticut special. I have gained immense valuable knowledge working on campus and meeting new people from different educational backgrounds.

Has a good library and online library to access all the peer reviewed articles. It has WiFi all around the campus, extracurricular activities happen everyday on campus by different clubs, amazingly clean Gym, indoor badminton and indoor running track which is valuable during winters.

Overview

The college is quite nice for people who can study and relax at the same time with a lot of assignments few days, overall the college is not perfectly organized in terms of infrastructure and planning but the faculty is very friendly and professional at the same time

The university has a couple of events, but it's not the best university I've been as there are few cons that might affect the ranking.

Overview

Firstly, the University of New Haven is my safe option. I applied to different universities like Ucinn, SUNY Buffalo and George Mason. Although I got admitted to UCinn and RIT, considering the fee factor, I opted for UNH. But I regret coming here. It's not a happening university. High competition for On-campus and hated the scholarship process. This is the procedure for admission: Three LORs, SOP, GRE score ( not mandatory), IELTS. Apply on the college website, and usually, we get the decision in 2-4 weeks.

Campus Life

Yeah, I believe people who are involved in campus activities and student clubs can enjoy very well with the fests and all. UNH has many student clubs, including sports, science, arts and religion ( one thing to love). I hate the medical facility. ( my first experience: I fell down in college and went to ask a bandage and they asked me to book an appointment????). Infrastructure - Too small for the publicity they do and for the fee they take.

Overview

"SOP: General idea of why you’re pursuing the field, why you’re applying to this university, what makes you a perfect fit. LOR, & Resume" Scholarship, networking opportunities, location (close to newyork and boston), faculty (excellent for my course) It has been great. I love the application based nature of my program. There is a huge indian population which may make it easier for people who’re more comfortable with indians. Yale University is a 10 minute drive from the university this means we’re exposed to a lot of events, opportunities from Yale.

It’s great, not too good. A small private university. But hosts most indian festivals which is great.
