How to Log In to the Counselling Portal

Choice filling is done at techadmissionshry.gov.in — the official Haryana Online Admissions portal for AICTE-approved technical courses. Your HSTES registration and counselling fee payment must be complete before you can access the choice filling screen.

1. Visit techadmissionshry.gov.in and click on Diploma Admissions 2026 or the Online Counselling link on the homepage.
2. Select Round 1 — Fill / Modify Choices from the counselling dashboard.
3. Enter your User ID (Registration Number) and Password, then click Login.
4. On the dashboard, confirm your merit rank, category, and domicile status are displaying correctly before you proceed.

How to Add College and Branch Preferences

Once logged in, use the choice filling interface to search for available college-branch combinations and build your list:

1. Click Fill / Modify Choices on the counselling menu.
2. Use the on-screen filters to narrow your search by district, college type, and branch or trade.
3. Review each institute’s details — available seats, category-wise intake, and fee structure — before adding it to your list.
4. Click the Add button next to each college-branch combination you want. It moves immediately to your Choice List panel.
5. Repeat the search and add steps until you have included all combinations you would genuinely be willing to join.

Add the maximum number of choices you can. There is no penalty for a long list; every additional entry protects you in case your higher preferences are unavailable at your rank.

How to Prioritise and Lock Your Choices

After building your list, arrange the entries in priority order and lock them. The allotment engine gives you the highest-ranked choice in your list where a seat is vacant at your merit position.

1. In your Choice List, use the up/down arrow buttons or drag handles to reorder entries.
2. Move your most preferred college-branch combination to position 1.
3. Arrange the remaining choices in decreasing order of preference — second-best at position 2, and so on down the list.
4. Click Save. You can return to the portal and modify the order as many times as needed until the window closes.
5. When you are fully satisfied with your list, click Lock Choices / Submit. A confirmation screen will appear with your final ordered list.
6. Confirm the lock. After locking, no changes are allowed for Round 1.
7. Download and save the Choice Filling Confirmation Page as proof that your choices were recorded.

Do not close the browser after saving without locking. A saved-but-unlocked list is not forwarded to the allotment engine. Lock your choices at least a few hours before the June 18 deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues during peak portal traffic.

Tips for Smart Choice Filling

Your choice list strategy matters almost as much as your merit rank. Apply these tips before you lock:

• Check previous-year closing ranks for your target branch and college before setting your priority order. Choices where your rank comfortably clears the historical closing rank are realistic allotments.
• Decide branch-first or college-first before you open the portal. Students focused on future placements often prefer a well-ranked college even in a secondary branch. Students with a clear technical goal may prefer a specific trade at any college.
• Prioritise government institutes if fees are a concern — government and government-aided polytechnics cost significantly less than private ones for the same branch and offer equivalent education.
• Include 3–5 safe choices — add options where your rank is well inside the previous-year closing rank, ensuring you receive at least one allotment even if all your reach preferences are unavailable.
• Only list choices you will actually join. If you are allotted a seat, you must report and pay fees to stay eligible for upgrades in subsequent rounds. Listing a choice you plan to skip wastes a seat and puts you at risk of losing your place.
• Female students: check the horizontal quota. HSTES reserves 25% of seats horizontally for female students across all categories — verify female-reserved seat availability while adding choices.
