  • English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 83, or Duolingo English Test 125
  • Credential evaluation through WES ICAP for graduate management programmes

Undergraduate applicants must meet:

  • Class 12 completion with 60% or above (recommended), higher for competitive tracks like Animation and Motion Picture Arts
  • The same English proficiency scores as postgraduate applicants
  • Programme-specific portfolios or interviews for Animation, Design and Music streams

Note: Indian applicants from CBSE, ISC or state boards who studied English as their medium of instruction may request an English test waiver by submitting an official medium of instruction letter.

Capilano University Acceptance Rate 2027

Capilano University does not publish an official acceptance rate. Based on international admissions patterns for BC teaching-focused universities, the international undergraduate acceptance rate sits at 60% to 70% (estimated). This estimate carries moderate reliability because CapU is undergraduate-heavy and open-admission for most non-portfolio programmes.

Portfolio-review programmes such as the Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts, Animation diplomas and IDEA School of Design run tighter cycles with acceptance closer to 25% to 35% based on published cohort caps. Business and Communication tracks stay well above the university average.

Reality check: Indian applicants with Class 12 above 70% and IELTS 6.5 typically clear admission for non-portfolio programmes on first review, provided documents are complete and submitted before intake close.

Capilano University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The main campus sits on a 34-acre wooded site on Purcell Way in North Vancouver, twenty minutes by SeaBus and bus from downtown Vancouver.

  • Location: the SeaBus from Lonsdale Quay to Waterfront connects the campus to downtown Vancouver in under twenty minutes, and the U-Pass BC monthly transit pass comes bundled into student fees
  • Housing: on-campus housing at CapU Residence covers a small share of international students, so most Indian students rent in Lynn Valley, Lonsdale or Lower Lonsdale at C$750 to C$1,200 shared
  • Signature facility: the Bosa Centre for Film and Animation carries an 8,000 sq ft sound stage, industry-grade motion capture and a 3D editing lab used across Motion Picture Arts and Animation programmes
  • Indian community: the Capilano Students’ Union hosts an active South Asian Students Association running Diwali, Holi and Vaisakhi events with fifty to seventy attendees per gathering

What Indian students say: class sizes stay under thirty for most seminars, professors are reachable by first name, and the North Shore setting keeps rent lower than downtown Vancouver while transit still gets students to Granville or Gastown in half an hour.

  • Post-study work: two-year diploma exits typically yield a two-year PGWP, four-year bachelor’s exits yield a three-year PGWP tied to programme length

Capilano University vs Peer Universities

CapU stands out on tuition affordability (₹13.4 Lakh a year against ₹15 Lakh+ peers) and on studio access for Animation and Motion Picture Arts. Class sizes stay under thirty across most seminars, tighter than the BC public university average.

Capilano University fits Indian students who want a Vancouver-area public degree at BBA fees of ₹53.8 Lakh across four years, with graduate starting salaries in the ₹32 Lakh to ₹39 Lakh band and a clear three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit pathway after a full bachelor’s. Applicants targeting film, animation, communication, tourism or general business will find the strongest programme depth.

CapU is less suited for Indian applicants seeking a research-heavy master’s, doctoral supervision or a QS-ranked brand name for employer signalling. Candidates in that profile should instead compare Simon Fraser University or the University of British Columbia in the same Metro Vancouver region.

Capilano University FAQs

Ques. What English tests does Capilano University accept for Indian applicants?

Ans. Capilano University accepts IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 83, and Duolingo English Test 125. Waivers apply for Indian applicants who studied their last three years fully in English medium and can supply an official medium of instruction letter from the school or board. Verify current test minimums on the official English Language Requirements page before applying.

Ques. Can international students work part-time while studying at Capilano University?

Ans. Yes. International students holding a valid Canadian study permit can work up to 24 hours a week off campus during regular terms and full-time during scheduled study breaks. On-campus work carries no separate hour cap. CapU also runs co-op options for eligible bachelor’s programmes, allowing paid full-time work terms integrated into the degree schedule.

Ques. Is GRE or GMAT required for Capilano University graduate programmes?

Ans. Neither the GRE nor the GMAT is required for the Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in International Management at Capilano University. Admission decisions rest on a completed bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 on the 4.33 scale, an English proficiency score at IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, and a written statement of purpose aligned with the applicant’s professional plans.

Ques. Does CapU issue conditional offers to Indian students awaiting Class 12 results?

Ans. Yes, CapU issues conditional offers to Indian applicants who have appeared for Class 12 board exams but not yet received results. The offer converts to unconditional once final marksheets show 60% or above and English proficiency is met before enrolment. The tuition deposit is due within four weeks of receiving the conditional offer to secure the seat.

Ques. How much is the Capilano University application fee for Indian applicants?

Ans. The Capilano University application fee for international applicants is C$135, roughly ₹9,205 at the current exchange rate. Waivers are granted only in limited hardship cases.

Ques. How long does the Post-Graduation Work Permit last after CapU?

Ans. The Post-Graduation Work Permit length matches the length of the study programme at CapU. A two-year diploma typically yields a two-year PGWP, and a four-year bachelor’s degree yields the maximum three-year PGWP. Full research master’s PGWP rules do not apply, since Capilano does not offer thesis-based research master’s or doctoral degrees at present.

Ques. Which Indian banks fund education loans for Capilano University students?

Ans. Major Indian education lenders including HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, State Bank of India and Avanse recognise Capilano University for education loan financing. Ans. CapU requires official Class 12 marksheets and, for graduate applicants, degree transcripts and consolidated marksheets issued directly by the Indian board or university. WES ICAP evaluation is required for undergraduate transcripts submitted with a graduate application. Physical envelopes must be sealed and posted directly, and any PDF transcripts must originate from the institution’s verified official email address.

Campus Life

  • Campus life was pretty fun, but honestly, it depends on the person. If you’re social, there’s lots to do, clubs, sports, events, and even a wellness day every Wednesday, organized by the student union. There’s a club for pretty much everything, like tennis or volleyball, and I used to go for basketball and volleyball.
  • The campus has a bunch of buildings, and there’s good infrastructure. There’s a library, sports facilities, and research support where you can chat online with experts for help anytime. Basically, there are tons of opportunities, but if someone doesn’t want to be social, that’s totally fine too.

Fees

  • I paid $2500 per course. $36,000 for the whole program.

Overview

Limited amount of film schools in Western Canada. Only about 4 in particularly in Vancouver where the film industry is most prevalent. Cheapest tuition (still very expensive) of all of the options available. The bonus was that the program included its own equipment and studio which allowed everyone to work on projects locally.

Fees

The tuition average for the film program is $16,000 per year with the average bursary around $1,500. International applicants are expected to pay approximately $32,000 tuition per year. Unfortunately, the vast majority of scholarships are based on community involvement for local students before enrolling in any program. International applicants are still eligible for bursaries.

The university is Close to home, the admission process involves writing about volunteer and work experiences, extra-curricular activities. I had to write 2 essays. I graduated high school with an average above 95%. This was the only school I applied to as I knew I would get in and I planned to transfer out after a year or two.

Fees

The cost of my tuition for 2 terms and 9 classes was around six thousand dollars.

Overview

In my case, I chose Capilano University to get transfer credits towards another institution since I have heard good things about their transfer program to other British Columbia universities, colleges.

Fees

Fees depend on the credits you take depending on the course load chosen it transfers to a certain amount of money needed to pay. Student fees are also mandatory and they include the u-pass and medical coverage.
