With the incorporation of new building, HEC Montreal plans to do the following:

  1. Expand management education by offering distinctive and specialised courses, in French.
  2. Be in close proximity to the business community of Montreal
  3. Make training programs at the institute, more accessible for downtown workers.


The institute houses 2 buildings- Côte-Sainte-Catherine and Decelles building.

Educational classes and most of the administrative offices are located in the existing two buildings. Both these buildings have study rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms and computer laboratories, accessible by the students.

Application Process

Different programs at the institute are subject to different application procedures. Here are a few common steps that one has to follow to fill in the application form.

  1. Visit the official website of HEC Montreal at http://www.hec.ca
  2. Select the program you want to pursue depending on your interests, eligibility, study plan et al.
  3. Click on the ‘admission’ tab. And fill in the required information.
  4. Start by preparing documents for application.
  5. Fill in the online application at http://www.hec.ca/en/programs/online-admission/mba/step-2/index.html
  6. Application fee to be paid is CAD 277. You can pay the same via credit card.
  7. Once you have successfully submitted the application, you will be mailed a registration number within three working days.
  8. Submit the required documents and your application will be further reviewed. It is advised to mention the CAQ number on each document you send.

Getting a Study Permit

International students will have to provide with a valid study permit, study visa for admission. Students must also have a valid Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) before applying for the visa/ permit related documents. One can apply for CAQ online or via email.

  1. One can apply for study permit at Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
  2. The same can be done at the nearest Visa application center.
  3. Submit acceptance letter, proof of finance, identity card (preferably passport)
  4. Apply for the study visa as soon as they are accepted by the institute.
  5. It is advised to travel to Canada, after receiving study visa.

Tuition Fee

Candidates will have to show a proof of finance while applying for students visa. The tuition fee charged by HEC Montreal vary from course to course and on place of residency.

Work While You Study

On Campus

Students can work on campus while studying at the institute. They will have to fulfil the following conditions.

  1. Study full time in a program
  2. Have a valid study permit
  3. Have a SIN (Social Insurance Number)
  4. Can work a maximum of 20 hours/ week during school year
  5. Can work full time during school holidays

Off Campus

Students can also work off campus while studying at the institute. They will have to fulfil the following conditions.

  1. Have a valid study permit
  2. Study full time in a program at a recognised institution.
  3. Have already started studying
  4. Studying to obtain a degree, diploma or certificate with duration of at least 6 months
  5. Have a SIN (Social Insurance Number)

How to get a SIN?

SIN is mandatory in order to work on campus or off campus and for tax purposes. It is no way related to a person’s health insurance number. A social number is valid until the end of your stay or a maximum 5 years. You can renew the same if necessary.

One can obtain SIN by going in person to Service Canada office along with the following documents:

  1. Your Passport
  2. Your study permit
  3. Your off campus work permit/ co-op/internship program permit.

Work After Graduation

One can work post their graduation after obtaining a work permit. The post graduation work permit is valid for the same duration as that of the last study program you have completed. Students have to fulfil the following conditions.

  1. Must have been a full time student in canada
  2. Completed with a study program with minimum duration of 8 months
  3. Apply for the work permit within 90 days of receiving a document declaring completion of studies.
  4. Must have a valid study permit.

Easy Housing Plans

The institute has partnered with various companies, to provide them with fully-furnished bedrooms with various facilities.

  • Rooms are available on first come first serve basis.
  • Booking is to be made in advance.

Off campus housing is also available for exchange students. 40 full time international students are offered the opportunity to rent a room in the university at HEC Montréal-Darlington residence.

Rent per room- $895 per month (9-month lease).
