HEC Montreal Admission Deadlines

At HEC Montreal, the application deadlines vary from course to course. Institute accepts applications for few programs on a rolling basis, that is, processing the application as they receive it.

For graduate programs, the admissions take place in three quarters- Autumn, Summer and Winter. Due to the long-drawn visa process, HEC Montreal recommends all international applicants to apply for the fall semester only.

HEC Montreal International Admissions

Apart from meeting the academic requirements of different undergraduate and graduate programs, international applicants must meet the language requirements. HEC Montreal requires all international applicants to prove their language proficiency in either English or French, depending upon the medium of instruction of the program.

English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students

Applicants opting for the English language instructed programs will have to submit proof of advanced intermediate or advanced English language proficiency(as per the course requirement).

This requirement is not mandatory for every international applicant. Those who fulfill any one of the following criteria are exempted from the submission of English proficiency test scores:

  • Hold a diploma of college studies from an English language institute.
  • Successful completion of high school studies fully in English(without taking the additional course).
  • Successfully completed HEC Montreal equivalent university-level language test from English-language university.
  • Completed 90 credits of university studies completely in English from an English-language university.
  • Hold a proficiency certificate of English as a second language with 30 credits from a recognized institution.

However, applicants who need to submit test scores can attempt any one of the tests from the table given below. The scores will be deemed official only when they are sent directly to HEC Montreal.

French Proficiency Requirements for International Students

Applicants are deemed proficient in the French language if they meet any one of the following requirements:

  • Have passed either Uniform Test of French, Language of Teaching and Literature or CEGEPs of Quebec.
  • Hold a high school diploma/Bachelor's degree in French from a Canadian institution.
  • Completed three years of university-level courses in French at a French-speaking university.
  • Hold a certificate of mastery in French from a recognized institution.

Applicants who do not fulfill even one french proficiency requirement given above are advised to take the required French proficiency tests.

HEC offers 3 Bachelor’s degree and 24 short undergraduate courses. Few courses like BBA is offered in three mediums: French, bilingual mode( English and French) and trilingual mode(in Spanish, French and English) of instruction.

Graduate Programs at HEC Montreal ranges from postgraduate diplomas to Masters and Doctorate degrees. The institute has 34 masters and 12 doctorate programs. Study Permit/ Visa Requirements for International Students

Students can start the process of obtaining a visa after receiving a letter of acceptance. The process of seeking admission is HEC Montreal, a Quebec institution, requires few additional documents as well. Following are the necessary checklist of documents required to obtain a visa:

  • For doctorate programs, admission decisions make take up to 8 weeks.
