Established in 1994 with a motto of “Knowledge is Freedom”, Langara College offers admission to over 90 programs and nearly 1,000 undergraduate and graduate courses at the ranging levels of degree, diploma and certificate. Located in British Columbia, one of the best Canadian cities for international students, the institute welcomes brightest minds from around 93 countries across the globe.

Admissions at Langara College are offered in the 3 seasonal intakes of Fall, Spring and Summer. The institute starts accepting deadlines 11 months to the start of term and since the competition for some of its courses is cutthroat, aspirants are advised to send in their applications at least 6 months prior to the start of term.

Though the acceptance rate at the institute is high compared to other Canadian institutes, the college is, however, highly selective in its approach towards enrollment and primarily gives weightage to brilliant track record and scores. Any aspirant with a decent profile, spectacular academic history and willingness to learn is a desired applicant for the institute. With a high employment rate of nearly 95%, the college guarantees placements to all of its deserving graduates and is thus, one of the highly coveted higher education institutes in Canada.

The deadlines for an array of graduate programs available is program-specific with the major season of intake being September. Some courses, however, are also offered in January and May intakes and thus should be kept a closed track of.

International Admissions

Candidates are highly encouraged to apply online though the institute also offers paper application but the latter usually takes longer for processing.

Basic Academic Requirement: Higher Secondary School Certificate.

Additional Requirements:

  • Official academic transcripts, with English translation if the original copy is not in English
  • English Proficiency Scores like TOEFL/IELTS or equivalent
  • Some courses request an interview with the applicant

Admission Process

Application process for all the international applicants of the college aiming to study in Canada is as listed below. 

  1. Prepare your personal and academic history along with the list of mandatory documents.
  2. Choose a program you are interested in applying to and check its availability, program-specific and additional requirements.
  3. International aspirants need to also submit their English language proficiency scores.
  4. Apply online or using a paper application by filling in all the necessary information and uploading the important documents like transcripts/marksheets/academic records, test scores, et al. which must be sent directly to Registrar and Enrolment Services from the testing authority or school.
  5. Deposit the required amount of application fee using a credit card and submit the completed entry form.
  6. Wait for an offer of place and accept it, if received, by providing International Student Deposit of 1,500 CAD nonrefundable and nontransferable Commitment Fee.
  7. Post this, the college will send a letter of acceptance which must be used to apply for a study permit to study in Canada by consulting the nearest Canadian Embassy.

English Proficiency Requirements

With English being the primary medium of instruction at the college, it becomes mandatorily significant that the aspiring international candidates submit their language proficiency scores to the institute. Some of the acceptable tests along with their test scores are as tabulated below.

Note that students who fail to meet the required specifications for English proficiency can apply to Langara English for Academic Purposes program (LEAP) to enroll at the college.

Visa Application Process

International aspirants of the college must apply for a study permit and visa to study in Canada at the nearest Canadian Embassy if the duration of the program they are enrolling in is longer than 6 months in nature. The entire process usually takes 4 to 8 weeks and thus should be applied for at the earliest.

Legal residents coming from countries like China, India, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Senegal, or Vietnam are also offered an alternative method of Student Direct Stream (SDS) by the Government of Canada for processing their permits faster.

To qualify for SDS, the following are the documents that are mandatory specifications and must be submitted. 

  1. Copy of acceptance letter.
  2. Proof of first year paid tuition fee.
  3. Proof of Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) for 10,000 CAD.
  4. Qualifying language test score
    1. English – 6.0 or more in each skill (IELTS)
    2. French – TEF score equal to a Canadian Language Benchmark minimum score of 7 in each skill.
  5. Medical exam.

International aspirants are strongly advised to send in their applications at the earliest possible opportunity because the admissions to many of the programs at the college are offered on first-come first-served basis and closes as soon as the seats are occupied.

The processing time for a Study Permit usually lasts up to 8 weeks and thus, it is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ensure there is enough time to report on the specified date mentioned in their Letter of Acceptance, writing any placement tests and registering for classes.

A candidate can apply to up to 2 programs using only one application in a particular term. If a student who has been offered admission but fails to enroll himself/herself in that particular term can reactivate their application offer up to 2 consecutive semester terms.
