Application for International Students

  • Fill the application form for CAD 125 with an additional charge of CAD 25.
  • Submit all the required documents.

  • If selected, accept the offer letter by depositing a non-refundable amount of CAD 500.
  • Select scholarships if applicable.
  • Apply for a study permit by visiting the nearest Immigration Office or visit the website www.cic.gc.ca.

The scholarship is based on academic excellence, leadership qualities demonstrated in extracurricular activities and a letter of recommendation from teacher/counselor. The student must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 in upcoming years to receive the renewal of this scholarship.

Residential Facilities

The University of Alberta has residential facilities for all students. 1 bedroom and 2-bedroom dormitory-style rooms are a major component of residences. Most of the residents must opt for a meal plan mandatorily.The first-year students can apply for the residence directly through their application form. Candidates applying before April 30, 2018, will get residence positively.

50-50 Payment Plan

In 8-month contract, you can pay in 2 equal installments of CAD 3,753 for a double room or CAD 4,385 for a single room. This plan is not available for 4-month contracts.

Note: The other residence fees for services like cleaning and repair, administration fee etc. is not included in the given payment plans.

Earn while you Study

International students may be permitted to work while study depending upon their registration status and location of employment. There are mainly three types of employment.

Work On-Campus

The students carrying a valid study permit need no work permit at any employment facility within the boundary of the university’s Edmonton UAlberta campus, Enterprise Square, South campus, Campus Saint-Jean and North Campus.

Visiting and exchange program students can also work with a valid study permit.

Work Off-Campus

Students require a study permit to apply for off-campus, full-time work opportunities in an academic, vocational and professional training programs. It can for a degree, diploma, or certificate.

Students must have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work off-campus. Under this program, students can:

  • Work for 20 hours a week and full time during school breaks.
  • Work full-time if the students have completed their program and have applied for masters before the permit expires.

Students who require Co-op as a part of their program will require a co-op work permit. ELP, Open Studies, Special and visiting students are not eligible for working off-campus.

How to Apply?

Students must submit the application to CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) for a valid study permit within 90 days of completion of the program.
