Trent University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Trent University admission requirements for Indian students span academic thresholds, English proficiency, and credential assessment.
- Bachelor’s academic minimum (PG): Ontario B+ equivalent, roughly 77% or CGPA 7.7/10 across the final two years of full-time study
- Class 12 minimum (UG): Overall average of 75% to 85% (recommended) with programme-specific subject requirements
- English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or PTE Academic 60 overall (all sub-scores 60+), or TOEFL iBT 4.5 overall (1 to 6 scale) with 4.5 writing and 4.0 speaking
- Credential verification: WES or ECA report converting Indian degrees to Ontario equivalents (PG only)
Key insight: Trent does not accept the Duolingo English Test for graduate programmes. Indian applicants relying on remote testing should book IELTS Indicator or TOEFL iBT Home Edition instead.
Trent University Acceptance Rate 2027
The Trent University acceptance rate for international applicants sits at 33% (estimated), derived from published applicant-to-offer counts in Ontario undergraduate admission cycles rather than an official university disclosure. Selectivity varies by programme, with Forensic Science and Nursing tighter than the university-wide average.
Indian applicants meeting the 80% Class 12 threshold with strong English scores generally receive offers within two to four weeks. Applicants with weaker academic files are routed to conditional offers requiring English pre-sessional coursework.
Reality check: The 33% headline hides programme-level competition. BSc Nursing and Forensic Science routinely close early each cycle; applying by December of the prior year improves outcomes for Indian applicants.

Trent University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Trent University operates two campuses: the main Symons campus in Peterborough, Ontario, set on the banks of the Otonabee River 90 minutes from Toronto, and a smaller Durham GTA campus in Oshawa serving the Greater Toronto Area.
- Location and transport: Symons campus sits on a 1,400-acre nature reserve; free U-Pass shuttles run to downtown Peterborough and the GO Transit hub for Toronto trips
- Housing: On-campus residence costs CAD 7,500 to 9,280 per year, with residence guaranteed for first-year international undergraduates who apply by the June deadline
- Notable facility: Bata Library, DNA Building, and the Trent Community Research Centre house the university’s water and forensics research clusters
- Indian community: The Trent India Association hosts Diwali and Holi events; the university’s 2,150 international students include a growing cohort from India, Nigeria, and China
What Indian students say: Peterborough is small and safe, which suits first-time overseas students, but part-time job density is thinner than Toronto; students often work on-campus in labs, the library, or dining halls to hit the 20-hour weekly work limit.

Trent University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Trent University publishes strong graduate outcomes, with the Careers Office running a centralised co-op and internship pipeline linking students to Ontario employers.
- Employment within 6 months: 92% of graduates employed (per Trent’s published graduate outcomes)
- Employment within 2 years: Over 95%
- Median starting salary: CAD 50,000 to 65,000 per year (INR 34.8 to 45.2 lakh), market median
- Representative sectors: Environmental consulting, healthcare, financial services, technology, and education
- Career support: Trent Careers Office, resume clinics, employer meet-ups on both Symons and Durham campuses; PGWP up to 3 years post-graduation
Insider note: Indian STEM graduates typically feed into Toronto’s tech corridor via co-op placements in the third undergraduate year; the Peterborough location keeps rent low but requires GO Transit commuting for weekend interviews.
Trent University vs Peer Universities
Peer institutions are drawn from Ontario mid-tier public universities plus one Canadian cross-provincial comparator; the panel is set on QS World rank, PG fees, and starting-salary bands.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trent University | Not ranked in top 1500 | #29 (Canada) | CAD 41,000 to 47,380 (INR 28.5 to 32.9 lakh) | Small-class model, forensics and sustainability strength |
| Brock University | Not ranked in top 1500 | #22 (Canada) | CAD 25,000 to 30,000 (INR 17.4 to 20.9 lakh) | Business co-op programme in Niagara region |
| Lakehead University | Not ranked in top 1500 | #25 (Canada) | CAD 30,000 to 36,000 (INR 20.9 to 25.0 lakh) | Engineering and law programmes in Thunder Bay |
| University of Windsor | 801-850 | #18 (Canada) | CAD 32,000 to 40,000 (INR 22.2 to 27.8 lakh) | Engineering and automotive research near Detroit border |
| Ontario Tech University | Not ranked in top 1500 | #31 (Canada) | CAD 30,000 to 34,000 (INR 20.9 to 23.6 lakh) | Applied technology focus in Oshawa |
Trent stands out for the highest automatic entrance scholarship stack in this peer set and one of the smallest average class sizes in Ontario, which favours Indian applicants who want faculty access rather than lecture-hall scale.
Trent University is worth the investment for the Indian student who wants a small-cohort Canadian degree with an above-average scholarship on entry and a clear PGWP pathway. Total four-year outlay of INR 91 to 97 lakh weighed against a first-job salary band of INR 34.8 to 45.2 lakh delivers payback inside 3 to 4 working years, and the Ontario location secures Fedreally-recognised co-op placements.
Trent University is not the right pick for applicants chasing top-100 QS branding or a large-city campus; those readers should instead consider the University of Windsor (better QS rank) or Ontario Tech University (metro Toronto adjacency) as realistic alternatives.
Trent University FAQs
Ques. What English tests does Trent University accept from Indian applicants?
Ans. Trent University accepts IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, PTE Academic 60 overall with sub-scores of 60, TOEFL iBT 4.5 on the 1 to 6 band scale with writing 4.5 and speaking 4.0, and CAEL 60. Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 176 overall is also accepted. Duolingo is not accepted for graduate programmes at Trent University.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Trent?
Ans. Yes, Indian students on a valid study permit can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during regular academic terms and full-time during scheduled breaks. On-campus work carries no hour limit while enrolled full-time. Popular on-campus roles at Trent include library assistants, dining hall staff, research lab helpers, and residence dons, which help offset living costs in Peterborough.
Ques. Does Trent University waive IELTS for Indian applicants?
Ans. Trent University waives the English test requirement if the applicant has completed at least two years of full-time post-secondary study in Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States. Class 12 completion from an Indian English-medium board does not automatically waive the test at the graduate level; undergraduate waivers depend on the school’s official language of instruction.
Ques. What is the application fee at Trent University for Indian applicants?
Ans. Undergraduate applicants pay the OUAC application fee of CAD 156 for the first university plus CAD 50 per additional programme, verified on the OUAC portal. Graduate programmes charge a Trent-specific application fee of CAD 100 to 125 depending on the programme. Fee waivers are not routinely offered to international applicants and payments must be made by international credit card at the point of submission.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise Trent University for education loans?
Ans. Trent University is recognised by SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, and non-banking lenders like Avanse, Prodigy Finance, and Auxilo for education loans. Public-sector banks typically fund up to INR 40 lakh with collateral for graduate programmes; private lenders offer up to INR 75 lakh unsecured for STEM masters. Loan disbursement requires the Trent offer letter and study permit approval.
Ques. Does Trent University require GRE or GMAT for graduate admission?
Ans. Trent University does not require GRE or GMAT for most master’s programmes, including the MSc Big Data Analytics, MSc Data Science, MA Sustainability Studies, and the MMS. Applicants are assessed on a Canadian B+ (77%) equivalent across the final two years of undergraduate study plus English scores. Individual programmes with a strong research thesis component may recommend GRE for competitive funding decisions.
Ques. How does Trent University verify Indian transcripts and degrees?
Ans. Trent University’s School of Graduate Studies requires Indian applicants to submit a course-by-course credential evaluation from WES Canada or ICES that converts Class 12, bachelor’s, and any master’s marks into the Ontario grading scale. Undergraduate admissions accept transcripts directly from CBSE, ICSE, or state boards without WES, but original documents must be attested and mailed after conditional offer acceptance.
Ques. What are the dependent visa rules for Trent University students?
Ans. Dependents of Trent University students in master’s or doctoral programmes may apply for a Spousal Open Work Permit, valid for the duration of the study permit. Dependents of postgraduate certificate students are generally ineligible for the open work permit under 2026 IRCC rules. Financial proof requirements are CAD 22,895 for the primary applicant plus CAD 4,000 for a spouse and CAD 3,000 per child annually.

Overview
It had the course I wanted to do, and the fees were reasonable too compared to the other universities in Toronto. I got in through the IDP agency, and they helped us file the visas and admission process. It didn't take long to get the offer letter after applying
Campus Life
There's a lot of Indians on campus, it doesn't feel like you're in a whole different country, so you still feel that aspect of home. There are also a lot of club activities around campus, so you always feel like you're a part of some event.
Likes
- I was interested in the rigor of the coursework, the prestige of the university, and the fact that I felt like it was an atmosphere of other students who made learning and their quirkiness a personality trait.
Overview
If I could go back in time to when I was applying to schools, I would still choose to apply to UChicago again. They gave me an incredible opportunity with great financial support to pursue what I wanted, and the connections I made after university were invaluable-- it is part of the reason I'm working where I am today. However, I would still be cautious and not underestimate the rigor of the coursework. The classes are challenging and their expectations of when you should complete assignments and the volume of text you have to read and essays you have to write can quickly become unmanageable if you let them slip, especially while maintaining your extracurriculars. The atmosphere of the school, while generally supportive, can still make you feel like you have to compare yourself to your incredibly bright classmates, which increases the pressure of your studies. I enjoyed the experiences I had but I would be lying if I didn't say my work ethic took a dive towards burnout before graduation. High expectations coupled with a slightly competitive class group and various extracurricular responsibilities make it feel impossible to stay afloat.
Campus Life
The extracurricular life of UChicago is thriving, with several organizations advertising, performing, and selling treats on campus. There is something for everyone, from a professional resume pad to a fun hobby to meet friends. The housing life tries to make you closer to your housemates through group activities (since you have to stay in campus housing for 2 years), but this was not as successful for me as I moved out after my first year. The libraries are plentiful, in addition to the student run coffee shops, all of which vary in aesthetic value. The wifi is decent-- often spotty but does the bare minimum of working. There are also two gyms on campus.

Overview
My experience at Trent University was enriching and fulfilling. The campus offered a vibrant academic atmosphere, and the faculty was supportive and knowledgeable. Engaging in various extracurricular activities and research opportunities was rewarding. The emphasis on holistic development and a tight-knit community made my time there truly memorable.
Campus Life
Its very beautiful nature wise and area wise. It's the 2nd largest campus of Canada.
Overview
I found the university offering the course and subjects that I was interested in. Another brownie point went to its beautiful campus and very helpful and kind staff.
Fees
Just the tuition cost is around $12,000 per semester.
Overview
Scholarship money, cheaper than other universities, accepting the culture and interesting courses, has good varsity teams and a nice gym. Organized faculty and helpful academic advisor for international students and also job hunting and co-ops. It's ranked the most beautiful campus in the entire province and is on the banks of a river.
Fees
The fee structure is that like any other country international students pay three times the fees and scholarship opportunities are not many in Canada which are terrible because education is expensive however they do give an entrance scholarship based on the high school transcript marks. There are certain grants and further academic scholarships one can apply for in the later years, however, it is not of a significant amount.
Overview
Reputation and affordability of the program compared to other MBA programs in the country. The faculty is great also the co-op component of the program helps students who want to get work experience before graduation.
Fees
Fee for the whole year divided equally over three semesters (Fall summer and winter semesters). Other charges include yearly bus passes/parking pass, university cash, recreational activities, insurance, etc for co-op and health.
Overview
When I was deciding on my University choice I took a lot of factors into perspective. I have always been one to like small towns and drama-less places and Peterborough ON offered me both. Trent University is known for its beautiful environment and scenery and was very important in my decision.
Fees
As international student fees are very expensive and with the new Osap costs it?s only going to get more expensive.
