University of Alberta Acceptance Rate 2027
According to publicly reported application-to-admit ratios, the University of Alberta does not publish a single official acceptance rate. The overall figure sits at 58% (estimated), with the international graduate track running significantly tighter.
Applicant Group Acceptance Rate Notes Undergraduate (all applicants) 66% (estimated) Engineering and Business are more selective Postgraduate (all applicants) 32% (estimated) Weighted average across research and course-based masters International Postgraduate 23% to 25% (estimated) Applications dropped from 7,757 in 2024-25 to 4,918 in 2025-26 Indian applicants sit at the tighter end of the postgraduate rate because Computing Science, Business, MEng and Public Health draw the bulk of Indian volume and cap seats aggressively.
Reality check: A CGPA 7.5/10 alone will not clear MSc Computing Science. Add a GRE 315 plus, one published paper or a strong internship at a named tech firm to move into the shortlisted set.

University of Alberta vs Peer Universities
The peer set below compares UAlberta against three Canadian U15 members and one Alberta peer on QS 2027 rank, Collegedunia Study Abroad rank and average masters fees.
University QS Rank 2027 Collegedunia Study Abroad Avg Annual PG Fee (CAD / INR lakh) Differentiator University of Alberta #96 #61 of 824 CAD 20,000 / INR 13.9 lakh Program-based cohort tuition guarantee; Petroleum and AI strength University of Toronto #25 NA CAD 45,000 / INR 31.3 lakh (estimated) Highest Canadian QS rank; largest Indian graduate cohort University of British Columbia #40 NA CAD 42,000 / INR 29.2 lakh (estimated) Vancouver tech and life-sciences pipeline McGill University #31 NA CAD 38,000 / INR 26.4 lakh (estimated) Bilingual Montreal setting; strong management masters University of Calgary #231 NA CAD 18,000 / INR 12.5 lakh (estimated) Alberta peer with direct Calgary energy pipeline UAlberta wins on total investment against top-5 Canadian QS peers because its average masters fee runs 40% to 55% below Toronto, UBC and McGill while sitting inside the same QS Top 100 band. Applicants targeting Toronto-based Big Four consulting can also review MBA universities in Toronto for a like-for-like fee comparison.
Note: UAlberta’s cohort tuition guarantee is the only one in this peer set that locks your fee for the full 2-year masters; U of T, UBC and McGill review tuition annually and typically raise it 3% to 5% each year.
UAlberta fits Indian applicants who want a Canadian U15 research university with QS Top 100 credentials, program-based cohort tuition around CAD 20,000 per year, and a two-year masters that qualifies for the three-year Canadian Post-Graduation Work Permit. Total investment of INR 45 lakh over two years against a median MBA salary of INR 64.8 lakh delivers a payback window inside 24 months for well-placed graduates in Alberta’s energy and consulting sectors.
UAlberta is not the right fit if you want a Toronto or Vancouver metro campus with the deepest tech and finance recruiter density, in which case University of Toronto’s Rotman remains the stronger choice despite its higher fees.
University of Alberta FAQs
Ques. Does the University of Alberta offer joint or online masters programs for Indian students?
Ans. UAlberta offers select online graduate certificates and diplomas through the Faculty of Extension, including the Master of Arts in Communications and Technology in a blended format. The Faculty of Engineering runs online MEng specialisations in Software Engineering. Flagship masters like the MBA, MSc Computing Science and MEng research streams require on-campus attendance in Edmonton for the full duration.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at UAlberta?
Ans. Yes, IRCC allows study permit holders at UAlberta to work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks. On-campus work carries no hour cap. Roles include research assistantships through the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, teaching assistantships and student staff jobs advertised on the CareerHub portal run by the Career Centre.
Ques. Does the University of Alberta accept a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree for master’s admission?
Ans. A 3-year Indian bachelor’s is not directly accepted for masters admission at UAlberta unless it comes from a recognised UGC university list and carries a first-class result. Most Indian applicants clear the requirement through a 4-year professional bachelor’s such as BTech, BE or BBA Honours, or by completing a one-year postgraduate diploma before applying.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise UAlberta for education loans?
Ans. State Bank of India, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank list UAlberta on their premier institution loan schemes because it holds QS Top 100 status. SBI Global Ed-Vantage funds up to INR 1.5 crore for UAlberta admissions, HDFC Credila offers collateral-free loans up to INR 50 lakh, and Avanse and Auxilo also fund the university without collateral up to INR 40 lakh.
Ques. Is a GRE required for MSc programs at the University of Alberta?
Ans. GRE is required for MSc Computing Science, MSc Statistics and several Engineering research masters at UAlberta, with competitive applicants scoring above 315. GRE is not required for MEng course-based programmes or for the MBA, which uses GMAT with a 550 plus target. Check each department’s admissions page since the requirement has been dropped for some programmes post-2023.
Ques. How much is the application fee for UAlberta international applicants?
Ans. The University of Alberta charges CAD 150 (INR 10,425) for undergraduate international applications and CAD 135 (INR 9,383) for graduate applications. The fee is non-refundable and payable by international credit card at submission. Fee waivers are available for applicants from listed low-income countries, but India is not on the current waiver list.
Ques. Does UAlberta accept WES credential evaluation for Indian transcripts?
Ans. WES evaluation is accepted at UAlberta but not mandatory. The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies prefers original transcripts sent directly by your Indian university in a sealed envelope. If your university does not send transcripts overseas, a WES ICAP course-by-course report resolves the gap. Undergraduate admission always uses original Class 12 and Class 10 mark sheets attested by your board.
Ques. Can dependents accompany an Indian student on a University of Alberta study permit?
Ans. A study permit holder at UAlberta pursuing a masters or doctoral programme can invite a spouse on an Open Work Permit and dependent children on a study permit for school. Financial proof of CAD 4,000 per additional accompanying family member is required at study permit submission. Undergraduate students cannot sponsor Open Work Permits for spouses under the current IRCC rules.

Campus Life
- The university has 4 campuses.
- North campus: it is located in Edmonton this one is the original campus.
- Campus Saint- Jean: it is also in Edmonton, this is for the French language education.
- Augustana Campus: located in Camrose, this is for liberal arts and sciences programs.
- South Campus: located in Edmonton, primarily for agricultural research. My campus is the north one this the main campus so I have the access for all the facilities like library, sports and medical services. The popular event is week of welcome features live music, club fair and various activities to engage new students. They also organise seasonal activities like pumpkin carving for Halloween and host winter party.
Fees
- For my course, the tuition fees are CAD $12,400 per year, and on-campus housing is around CAD $15,000 with meals for an 8-month term, but I rented an apartment, which costs me around $600 per month.
- The fees are charged per semester in my case.
- The monthly expenses for rent, groceries, and other regular expenses are like $1000.
- Transportation is free for university students.

Overview
Considering education quality and fees, this was the best possible university. The college does provide good competition and educational facilities and also good friends which honestly I'm lucky to have. So I would say my experience has been pretty good.
Campus Life
Almost everyday there is an event happening and the university shows a good diversity of students of different races, religions, which shows that my university is quite inclusive.

- I like the structural program of UofA. The cultural diversity of university was particularly of attraction.
Overview
It was a good experience as a whole. But the major drawback is not having proper guidance on getting scholarships or grants.
Campus Life
The campus life was good with a great number of food shops near white avenue. The campus has in-house facilities for gymnasium, libraries and sports.

I think the your experience in college is what you make of it. If you go in knowing exactly what you want to do with your career and use college as a means of getting there, then you may miss out on campus activities, meeting new people, networking, developing yourself, etc. it’s not a bad route to go because it gives you focus but there may be things that you may wish you would’ve taken the time out to experience while in college.

International Students Association is very Active in doing workshops and extra curriculum activities.

- Ranking in Canada, Ranking in computing science and the course structures for my interested courses.
Overview
It’s a fun, educational experience. Definitely gets stressful around exam season and before the submission of huge assignments but the winding down is just as enjoyable and there is always something going on in the university that helps you wind down.
Campus Life
The libraries are one of my favorite places to study on campus, There are zones of various amounts of noise from collaborative zone with lots of sound to quiet spaces with absolute silence. There are loads of clubs that cater to every interest or need from engineering robotic clubs to networking clubs to astrology and astronomy clubs. There is almost always an event happening on campus like free pancakes or free goodies that are always fun to partake and attend.

- Very diverse. My course structure provide enough time to work and study. The faculty are very helpful, they guide you through out the course for internships, job fairs and provide you reference if you are applying individually.
Dislikes
- There's nothing much to dislike about my university. My course doesn't allow to apply for Research assistantship or Teaching Assistantship. Even we don't have Co-op. Apart from that, my university is one of the best.
Overview
My University experience is good. My first 2 months were worst, later its a piece of cake. I've applied for 6 Universities. Got admitted in all of them. But Ualberta is ranked #4 in Canada. So, i choose this.

We have plenty of clubs to join. And wide range of events take place. We have 3 libraries on campus (we can also borrow books from other universities if needed). Infrastructure is very well built to withstand harsh climates. UWS (University Wifi Service) is available across the city. Our sports facility (Van-Villet Complex) has all major activities like swimming, gym, volleyball, basketball, football ground, lacrosse, ice hockey, badminton, etc. We are also provided with Arc Card (transit pass). It can used for both busses and trains.
Overview
University of Alberta is ranked 4 all over Canada for their education and student services. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Weather here is also not that bad and people can adjust easily in this location. Part time minimum wage is also more in Alberta than any other province in Canada. Taxes are also the lowest among all other provinces. University provides ample opportunities to network and meet industry professionals to build a good relationship which might help students find a job. Career events are organized on a regular basis which help students on building resume, help in writing research papers, meet and greet people from different backgrounds. All in all it is a great place to study and live for students. Rental apartments are also cheaper in this province. Rest depends on students skills and experience to get a job. University provides all the support in building you professionally.
Fees
20,000 CAD for 2 years approx 12 lakhs for 2 years. Fees increased from 2020. Check website
Overview
It's a Canadian university with low tuition costs -- only about 25,000 CAD per year! Also, its admission rate is not as low as University of British Columbia and University of Toronto, but it has a strong CS department, particularly in Reinforcement Learning Theory.
