SPIT Mumbai Admission Dates 2026

SPIT Mumbai admissions for the 2026-27 academic session have concluded. B.Tech seats were filled through MHT-CET 2026 and the DTE Maharashtra CAP process, with rounds completed by August 2026. MCA and M.Tech admissions through the respective CET and GATE-linked CAP rounds were also concluded.

The table below lists tentative dates for the 2027-28 admission cycle, based on patterns from previous years. These are subject to official notification by the Maharashtra State CET Cell.

SPIT Mumbai Courses and Fees

SPIT offers a focused set of 7 programmes across Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electronics and Telecom Engineering at UG, PG, and research levels. As a government-aided institution, B.Tech fees of INR 2,12,000 per year are among the lowest for autonomous engineering institutes in Mumbai. The table below covers all programmes with duration and total fees from the general category quota.

SPIT’s Institute-Level seats (20% of B.Tech intake) carry a higher annual fee of INR 4,26,125 per year. These seats are filled on merit from candidates who did not receive a CAP allotment to SPIT or choose the Institute-Level route. All Institute-Level candidates must still hold a valid MHT-CET or JEE Main score and meet the eligibility criteria.

SPIT Mumbai Admission Process

All SPIT admissions are merit-based. There is no minority quota at SPIT. No direct applications or management quota admissions are accepted outside the DTE Maharashtra CAP process. Candidates must apply through the state-level portal at cetcell.mahacet.org.

B.Tech Admission

B.Tech eligibility requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for reserved categories). Candidates must hold a valid MHT-CET PCM score or a JEE Main Paper 1 score. The process runs as follows:

• Appear for MHT-CET (PCM group) or JEE Main
• Register for DTE Maharashtra CAP on cetcell.mahacet.org
• Fill in college and branch preferences online
• Provisional allotment through CAP Round 1, CAP Round 2, and CAP Round 3
• Report to SPIT with original documents and pay the first-year fee

SPIT’s Computer Engineering and CSE branches are among the most competitive in Maharashtra. In MHT-CET 2025 CAP rounds, the closing percentile for Computer Engineering and CSE in the open category exceeded 99.7 percentile. Electronics and Telecom Engineering has a slightly lower cutoff, typically in the 97 to 99 percentile range.

MCA Admission

MCA eligibility requires graduation in any discipline with Mathematics as a subject (50% marks, 45% for reserved categories). Candidates must have a valid MAH-MCA-CET score. Seat allotment is through DTE Maharashtra CAP. SPIT’s MCA programme is highly competitive, given its low fees and strong placement record.

M.Tech and PhD Admission

M.Tech eligibility requires B.Tech in a relevant discipline with a minimum 55% marks and a valid GATE score. M.Tech seats are allocated through DTE Maharashtra CAP. PhD admission is conducted directly by SPIT. Candidates must hold a valid GATE, UGC NET, or clear the institute’s internal research entrance test. Preference is given to candidates with prior research publications or industry experience.

SPIT Mumbai Placements

SPIT’s placement performance stands out strongly for a government-aided college. In 2024-25, the highest package was INR 52 LPA and the average was INR 14.5 LPA with a median of INR 13.66 LPA. In 2023-24, the highest package reached INR 61.55 LPA and the average was INR 15.14 LPA with a median of INR 13.33 LPA.

The three-year average trend shows consistent average packages in the INR 13 to 15 LPA range, which is highly competitive for a Maharashtra government-aided institute. Roles offered are predominantly software engineering, data science, quantitative finance, and embedded systems. Finance and fintech sector recruiters have driven the highest-package offers in recent cycles.

SPIT’s location in Andheri West gives it strong access to Mumbai’s technology and financial services industry. The proximity to SEEPZ, Andheri’s IT hubs, and Bandra-Kurla Complex translates directly into recruiter participation. Finance and quant-finance employers from BKC (Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank) are regular on-campus visitors.

SPIT’s NAAC A grade and autonomous status from the University of Mumbai reflect strong academic governance. The institute is also NBA-accredited for its engineering programmes, confirming compliance with national quality benchmarks for technical education.

SPIT Mumbai Campus and Infrastructure

The SPIT campus is located in Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The campus houses three department buildings for Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electronics and Telecom, along with a central library, advanced networking labs, and a dedicated research block. The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan trust maintains the campus in a relatively compact urban format consistent with Mumbai’s dense geography.

SPIT does not have its own on-campus hostel. Limited accommodation is available through an arrangement with the adjacent Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) campus, subject to seat availability in a given year. Students from outside Mumbai typically rent accommodation in the surrounding Andheri and Versova neighbourhoods. Mumbai’s western suburban railway network, with Andheri station a short distance away, provides strong connectivity for commuter students.

SPIT Mumbai vs KJ Somaiya vs DJ Sanghvi

Candidates considering SPIT for B.Tech in Mumbai often compare it with KJ Somaiya College of Engineering (KJSCE) and DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering. All three are autonomous colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai, drawing from the same MHT-CET applicant pool.

SPIT leads among the three on placement quality (average INR 14 to 15 LPA) and is the most affordable option with government-aided fees. KJSCE has a broader programme range and a newer campus with more infrastructure, but higher fees. DJ Sanghvi offers a similar aided-institution fee structure and a comparable location in Western Mumbai. Candidates who qualify for SPIT’s Computer Engineering or CSE through CAP should strongly prefer it over the other two on placement and fee grounds.
