Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: Arts or Commerce students can take D.Pharm after Class 12.
  • Fact: Standard PCI eligibility requires the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.
  • Myth: D.Pharm is only a two-year classroom course.
  • Fact: The programme also requires at least 500 hours of practical training, spread over a minimum period of three months.
  • Myth: NEET is compulsory for D.Pharm across India.
  • Fact: There is no single compulsory national D.Pharm entrance examination. Admission commonly uses state-level tests, centralised counselling, university tests or Class 12 merit.

Types of Admission Routes in India

State-Level Entrance Examination

  • JEECUP/UPJEE Pharmacy, RUHS CUET, GUJCET and Bihar DCECE-PM are important state-level routes.
  • They cover participating government and/or private pharmacy institutes within the respective state.

University-Level Entrance Examination

  • Some universities use their own entrance tests. GLAET 2026, for example, is used by GLA University for its admission process, including its D.Pharm programme.
  • Eligibility and test pattern are university-specific.

Merit-Based Admission

  • Some institutions prepare admission merit from Class 12 qualifying-examination marks.
  • Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences' D.Pharm route uses qualifying-exam merit; its 2026 application cycle is already closed.

Counselling-Based Admission

  • States such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Bihar use centralised counselling after entrance results/merit preparation.
  • Candidates generally register, fill college choices, receive an allotment and complete verification/fee payment.

Ques. Does completing D.Pharm automatically make a student a registered pharmacist?

Ans. No. Completing a recognised pharmacy qualification and professional registration are separate steps. Eligible graduates must complete the applicable registration procedure with the concerned State Pharmacy Council before practising in roles that legally require registration.

Ques. Can a D.Pharm graduate open a medical shop?

Ans. D.Pharm can provide the educational route needed for pharmacist registration, but opening and operating a retail pharmacy also requires the applicable drug licence, premises, storage and other regulatory compliances. A D.Pharm certificate alone is not the complete business licence.

Ques. Does D.Pharm offer specialisations such as Clinical Pharmacy or Industrial Pharmacy?

Ans. Standard D.Pharm is a general pharmacy diploma rather than a specialisation-based programme. Students study core areas such as pharmaceutics, pharmacy practice, pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics and related pharmaceutical subjects.

Ques. Can D.Pharm graduates work in pharmaceutical companies?

Ans. Yes. Entry-level opportunities can include production trainee, pharmaceutical sales, medical representative, inventory, distribution and some quality-support roles. Degree-level technical, regulatory and research positions often prefer or require B.Pharm or a higher qualification.

Ques. What salary can a D.Pharm graduate earn abroad?

Ans. There is no reliable single “foreign package” for an Indian D.Pharm graduate. An Indian D.Pharm qualification does not automatically provide a pharmacist licence in another country; credential assessment, additional study, examinations, language requirements and professional licensing vary by destination.

D. Pharm Admission Process

  • Eligibility: Class 12/10+2 in the Science stream.
  • Required Subjects: Physics and Chemistry with Biology or Mathematics.
  • Minimum Marks: No universal PCI percentage applies to every college. Around 45%–50% is commonly prescribed by individual states/institutions where a percentage criterion exists.
  • Entrance Application: Apply for JEECUP, RUHS CUET, GUJCET/ACPC, DCECE-PM or a university entrance examination where required.
  • Entrance Result: Check score/rank/merit position after the respective examination.
  • Counselling: Register for the relevant state/university counselling and fill in preferred D.Pharm colleges.
  • Merit Route: Institutions using Class 12 merit prepare a qualifying-exam merit list instead of requiring a separate D.Pharm entrance test. Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a verified merit-based example for 2026.
  • Documents: Class 10 and 12 mark sheets/certificates, identity proof, photographs, transfer/migration certificates and domicile/category documents where applicable.
  • Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted according to rank/merit, category, choices and availability.
  • Verification: Original documents are checked by the allotted institution/counselling authority.
  • Admission Confirmation: Pay the prescribed admission/course fee within the allotted deadline to confirm the seat.

FAQ's

Ques. What percentage is required in Class 12 for D.Pharm admission in 2026?

Ans. The Pharmacy Council of India does not prescribe one universal Class 12 percentage that every D.Pharm college must use. Students must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics. Individual states and institutions commonly prescribe around 45%–50% where a minimum aggregate is required.

Ques. Can both PCB and PCM students apply for D.Pharm?

Ans. Yes. Students with Physics and Chemistry along with either Biology or Mathematics are eligible under the standard academic qualification prescribed for D.Pharm.

Ques. Can an Arts or Commerce student pursue D.Pharm after Class 12?

Ans. Generally, no. The standard D.Pharm admission requirement is Class 12 Science with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics.

Ques. Is NEET compulsory for D.Pharm admission in 2026?

Ans. No. NEET is not a compulsory nationwide entrance examination for D.Pharm. Major admission routes include state examinations such as JEECUP, RUHS CUET and DCECE-PM, state counselling systems such as ACPC in Gujarat, university tests and Class 12 merit.

Ques. Which entrance exams are important for D.Pharm admission in 2026?

Ans. Important state-specific routes include JEECUP/UPJEE Pharmacy in Uttar Pradesh, RUHS CUET in Rajasthan, GUJCET with ACPC pharmacy counselling in Gujarat and Bihar DCECE-PM. The applicable examination depends mainly on the state and institution.

Ques. What is a good entrance exam score for D.Pharm?

Ans. There is no common D.Pharm score valid across India. JEECUP, RUHS CUET, DCECE-PM and other examinations use different papers, merit systems and counselling cut-offs. Students should compare their rank with the current round-wise opening and closing ranks of the colleges they are targeting.

Ques. Is D.Pharm a two-year course or a four-semester course?

Ans. The PCI-prescribed D.Pharm programme is a two-academic-year diploma. Students should not assume that every institution follows a four-semester description because the regulatory framework defines it by academic years. Mandatory practical training is also required.

Ques. How much practical training is required after D.Pharm?

Ans. At least 500 hours of practical training are required over a minimum period of three months. The prescribed training includes substantial exposure to actual dispensing work.

Ques. What is the difference between D.Pharm and B.Pharm?

Ans. D.Pharm is a two-year diploma focused strongly on pharmacy practice, dispensing and entry-level pharmacy roles. B.Pharm is a four-year bachelor's degree with wider coverage of pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing, formulation, quality, regulatory and higher-study opportunities.

Ques. Can I join B.Pharm directly after completing D.Pharm?

Ans. Yes. Many institutions offer B.Pharm lateral entry into the second year to eligible D.Pharm graduates. Such a lateral-entry route usually requires another three years of study; the exact marks and admission conditions vary by university.

Ques. Can a D.Pharm graduate study Pharm.D?

Ans. D.Pharm graduates can explore Pharm.D admission at institutions where the applicable eligibility rules permit it. Since admission conditions can differ, students should check the current Pharm.D eligibility of the institution before applying.

Ques. What salary can a D.Pharm fresher expect in India?

Ans. A practical early-career range is approximately INR 1.5 LPA–INR 4 LPA, although some roles may fall below or above this range. Salary depends on pharmacist registration, job profile, employer, location and experience.

Ques. Can D.Pharm graduates apply for government pharmacist jobs?

Ans. Yes, where the recruitment notification accepts D.Pharm and the candidate meets registration, age, category and other prescribed conditions. Government pharmacist recruitment is separate from college admission, and vacancies may require a written test or merit-based selection.

Ques. Is merit-based admission available for D.Pharm in 2026?

Ans. Yes, at institutions that use Class 12 marks instead of a separate entrance test. For example, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences uses qualifying-examination merit for its D.Pharm admission process; its 2026 application cycle has already closed.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees of 2 years is 1lakh 30 thousand . They provide scholarship if you have good marks in 12 th standard or if you request. After scholarship the total fees is around 1lakh 15 thousand .In this everything is included like tution fee , admission fee , development fee , uniform, lab kit , apiron etc . Just you have to pay extra for records that is 100 per record. Quite an affordable college fee structure . Try through kcet for better fees. Which can make your whole cost more than 50 percent less .

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is very great . Teachers are very helpful. The main exam is annually and there are no semester ask as other courses. There are 2 sessional exams for both practical and theory whoes marks are considered for the final exam . And teachers are quite helpful during the sessional exam . They want every student to score well . So they easily pass there final exam . It is a easy course .

Course Curriculum Overview

would rate the course curriculum 4/5 for relevance and comprehensiveness. The syllabus covers core subjects with a good balance of theory and practicals, which influenced my decision to choose this course. It helps in building strong fundamentals and prepares well for real-world applications as well as further studies. Exams are conducted at regular intervals (internal + semester) and the difficulty level is moderate. Improvement can be done by adding more industry exposure, updated topics, and more practical

Faculty

Faculty-to-student ratio is good and teachers are approachable. Faculty-student relationship is supportive and doubts are cleared properly. Some of the best faculties are very experienced and teach with simple examples. Course structure is well planned with both theory and practicals. Exams are conducted semester-wise with internal + external assessment and marking scheme is fair. Overall exams are moderate; with regular study it is easy to clear and the curriculum is relevant to professional development.

The ratio of faculty to students is 1:60. Faculty focuses only on front benchers. Not approachable at all . The best faculties name are Rita Mehta mam, Surbhi mam, Dr. Aziz Ahemad sir, Rakesh Sir, only because of their professionalism and experience in teaching. The worst faculties are Pradeep Kumar Garg and the reason is he always gets too much personal with students no professionalism at all, not properly behave with back benchers. 3 internal exam and 1 final exam and easily qualifying exam.

Ques. Could you please tell me when the application form for the Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) is released?

● Top Answer By Muskan Agrahari on 25 Jun 25

Ans. No Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) course at NIT Trichy exists. From the official NIT Trichy website and other admission sources, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses mostly in engineering, science, management, and humanities, but no D.Pharm course is observed in their course list. If you wish to pursue a D.Pharm, you might have to learn about other college or university options that offer this diploma.
