ISC 2027 Preparation Tips

ISC 2027 Syllabus: Subject-wise Preparation Tips

With theory exams expected from mid-February 2027, you have roughly three to four months from October 2026. Split your study plan into three phases: October–November for full syllabus coverage, December for revision and past papers, and January–February for mock tests and practical preparation.

English Language and Literature

  • Read one broadsheet editorial daily. This builds comprehension speed and formal vocabulary for Paper 1.
  • For composition, write one essay per week on a current topic. Review it for sentence clarity and grammar errors.
  • Practise summary writing on unseen passages — aim to reduce a 400-word text to 100 words without losing key ideas.
  • For Literature (Paper 2), prepare theme, character, and critical-quote notes for every prescribed text. CISCE frequently asks for evidence-based analysis.

Physics

  • Optics (12 marks) and Atoms and Nuclei (9 marks) together account for about 30% of the theory paper. Prioritise these units first.
  • Revise derivations daily — ISC regularly asks you to derive Lens Formula, Biot-Savart Law, and Bohr’s radius from first principles.
  • Solve at least five numericals per unit from previous ISC papers before moving to a reference book.
  • For Practical (30 marks), memorise the observation table and sources of error for each standard experiment. CISCE awards marks for correct procedure and readings.

Chemistry

  • Prepare one A4 sheet listing all named reactions (Aldol, Cannizzaro, Friedel-Crafts, HVZ) and revise it every three days.
  • Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics carry 11 combined theory marks — never skip these two units.
  • Draw reaction mechanisms by hand when practising organic conversions. Writing mechanisms deepens retention more than reading them.
  • Practical: Master systematic salt analysis. The practical paper awards marks for identifying each ion correctly using the prescribed reagent sequence.

Mathematics

  • Calculus carries 35 out of 80 theory marks. Finish Integration and Differential Equations before you start any other unit.
  • Choose Section B or Section C at the start of the year and stick with that choice throughout. Switching late wastes revision time.
  • Begin your project in October or November. A well-presented 20-mark project done early reduces pressure in the final month significantly.
  • Practise Probability using the standard ISC question types: Bayes’ Theorem, Binomial Distribution, and conditional probability tables.

Biology

  • Human Physiology carries 15 theory marks — the largest single unit. Build one labelled diagram per body system and revise them weekly.
  • Genetics and Biotechnology together carry roughly 18 marks. Practise pedigree problems and Mendelian ratio questions until your accuracy is consistent.
  • For Practical (30 marks), prepare slides for permanent and temporary mounts. Revise your practical record regularly throughout the year.
  • Ecology and Biodiversity questions are largely factual. Use tables to memorise park names, in situ vs. ex situ methods, and IUCN categories.

Accounts

  • Section A carries 60 out of 80 theory marks. Complete all Partnership Accounts topics before you move to Company Accounts.
  • Solve Partnership problems in a fixed sequence: calculate the new profit-sharing ratio → revalue assets → adjust reserves → adjust capital. A wrong ratio at step one cascades errors through the entire question.
  • For Company Accounts, practise share forfeiture and reissue journal entries until you can complete them without referring to your notes.
  • If you choose Section B, solve at least 20 Cash Flow Statements from past ISC papers using the indirect method before your exams.
  • Start your Paper 2 project in October. For Section B, use a publicly available annual report from a listed Indian company as your data source.

Economics

  • Part II (Macroeconomics) carries roughly 48 theory marks. Prioritise National Income, Money and Banking, and Determination of Income.

ISC Syllabus 2027 FAQs

ISC Syllabus 2027 FAQs

Ques. Is the ISC 2027 syllabus the same as the 2026 syllabus?

Ans. Yes, the ISC 2027 syllabus is largely unchanged from the 2026 syllabus. No major topic deletions or additions have been announced by CISCE for the 2026-27 academic year. The last significant revisions were introduced in the 2023-25 cycle and are fully incorporated into the current curriculum.

Ques. Which subject has the highest practical or project weightage in ISC?

Ans. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Geography each carry 30 marks for practical work out of 100. Mathematics, Accounts, Economics, and History carry 20 marks for project or internal assessment. English Language and Literature are entirely theory-based and have no practical component.

Ques. Is NCERT enough for ISC Class 12 preparation?

Ans. NCERT is a useful conceptual base, especially for Biology where ISC and NCERT coverage overlap heavily. However, the ISC syllabus goes deeper than NCERT in Mathematics (Calculus, Probability), Chemistry (organic reactions, coordination compounds), and Accounts. Use your ISC-prescribed textbooks as the primary source and treat NCERT as a supplementary reference only.

Ques. Where can I download the official ISC 2027 syllabus PDF?

Ans. You can download all subject-wise ISC 2027 syllabus PDFs from the official CISCE website at cisce.org/publications.aspx under the "Regulations and Syllabuses" section. Always use the board’s official website — third-party copies may be outdated or incomplete.

Ques. Which are the most important chapters in ISC Accounts?

Ans. Partnership Accounts (34 marks) is the single largest topic in the ISC Accounts theory paper. Within it, Reconstitution (Admission and Retirement of a Partner) and Goodwill valuation appear in most ISC papers. Company Accounts (26 marks) — particularly Share Capital, Redemption of Debentures, and Final Accounts — forms the second pillar. These two topics together account for all 60 marks of the compulsory Section A.

Ques. Has the ISC Accounts syllabus been revised for 2027?

Ans. No major revision to the ISC Accounts syllabus has been announced for 2027. The structure remains unchanged: Section A (60 marks, compulsory) covers Partnership and Company Accounts. You then choose either Section B (Management Accounting, 20 marks) or Section C (Computerised Accounting, 20 marks). Project work (Paper 2) remains at 20 marks.

Ques. What is the passing mark in ISC 2027?

Ans. You must score at least 35% in each individual subject (theory and practical combined) to pass that subject. You also need a minimum 35% in aggregate. Scoring below 35% in even one subject means you fail that subject — your overall aggregate does not compensate for it.

Ques. How many subjects are compulsory in ISC?

Ans. English Language is the only subject compulsory for all ISC students. You must take at least four additional subjects (for a total of five), and you may opt for a sixth. Your stream and school determine the available elective combinations.

Ques. What books should I follow for ISC Accounts?

Ans. T.S. Grewal’s ISC Accountancy (Sultan Chand) is the most widely recommended reference. It covers Partnership Accounts, Company Accounts, and Management Accounting with a large question bank. For Computerised Accounting (Section C), practise spreadsheet exercises alongside the CISCE-prescribed textbook. Solve at least five past ISC Accounts papers to familiarise yourself with question formats and marking patterns.

Ques. When will the ISC 2027 date sheet be released?

Ans. The ISC 2027 timetable has not been released as of October 2026. Based on past years, CISCE typically publishes the date sheet in November — in 2025, it was released on November 13. Check cisce.org for the official timetable announcement.

Ques. Should I choose Section B or Section C in ISC Mathematics?

Ans. Section B (Vectors and Three-Dimensional Geometry) is generally preferred by Science stream students because it builds on coordinate geometry and algebra they already know well. Section C (Application of Calculus in Commerce, Linear Regression, Linear Programming) suits Commerce stream students taking Mathematics as an elective. Both sections carry 15 marks and have a similar difficulty level in past ISC papers. Choose early and stay consistent throughout the year.

Ques. How should I cover the full ISC 2027 syllabus in the remaining months?

Ans. With theory exams expected from mid-February 2027, you have roughly three to four months from October 2026. Use three phases: October and November for completing first-pass coverage of all subjects; December for revision and solving past ISC papers (last five years); January to early February for mock tests, targeted weak-topic revision, and practical/project completion. In every subject, tackle the highest-weightage units first before lower-weightage ones.
