ISC 2027 Preparation Tips: Subject-wise Strategy
With ISC 2027 theory exams expected in February–March 2027, you have approximately four to five months from October 2026. Divide preparation into three phases: theory completion (October–November), revision and past papers (November–December), and mock tests plus practical preparation (January). Each subject needs a targeted approach.
English Language and Literature
- Practise composition writing (essays, letters, reports) at least twice a week under timed conditions.
- For Literature, annotate every poem and prose chapter for themes, literary devices, and character motivations — these become the backbone of your answers.
- Read the prescribed drama at least twice and note key scenes, quotes, and character arcs.
- Solve précis and comprehension passages from previous ISC papers to improve speed.
- Revise grammar rules (active/passive, indirect speech) weekly — errors here cost easy marks.
Physics
- Start each unit with NCERT theory before moving to ISC-specific numericals.
- Optics (ray and wave) and Electromagnetic Induction together carry 22–26 marks — master these two units before any others.
- Solve at least five years of ISC Physics past papers to recognise question patterns.
- The practical component is 30 marks — keep your practical file complete and up to date from the start.
- Create formula sheets for each unit; revise them every Sunday to build retention.
Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry carries approximately 25–30 marks — complete all named reactions and mechanisms first.
- Use a dedicated notebook for Inorganic Chemistry facts (p-block properties, IUPAC nomenclature for coordination compounds).
- Electrochemistry calculations (Nernst equation, Faraday’s laws) appear every year without exception.
- Practicals include salt analysis and volumetric titrations — practise these in your school lab at least twice before the practical exam.
- Biomolecules (carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids) require memorisation of structures — use diagrams rather than text descriptions.
Mathematics
- Calculus contributes 35–40 marks to the 100-mark paper — dedicate the first six weeks of preparation to integration and differential equations alone.
- Practise at least 15 integration problems daily; integration speed directly determines your score in that section.
- For Probability (Bayes’ theorem, binomial distribution), solve problems systematically — this is a predictable 8–10 mark section.
- Attempt two full-length ISC Maths papers under timed conditions each month to build exam stamina.
- Coordinate geometry (circles and conics) questions follow predictable patterns — ISC past papers from the last five years are sufficient practice.
Biology
- Draw and label every diagram (flower structure, human reproductive system, DNA replication) without looking at the textbook at least once a week.
- Genetics and Molecular Biology together carry approximately 18–22 marks — prioritise DNA replication, transcription, translation, and Mendelian genetics.
- Ecology questions are conceptual and consistently high-scoring; do not skip population interactions, energy flow, or biodiversity topics.
- Cover both NCERT and your ISC Biology textbook — each has content the other does not fully cover.
- Start the practical file early; practical examinations run in January–February and the viva questions test your understanding of experiments, not just procedures.
Business Studies
- The Management Functions section (Organising, Directing, Staffing, Controlling) carries 35–40 marks — make it your highest-priority preparation area.
- Understand each management concept with a real-world example — ISC Business Studies application questions reward genuine comprehension, not rote answers.
- For Financial Markets, know SEBI’s functions, stock exchange operations, and money market instruments in detail — this section is frequently tested.
- Consumer Protection Act 2019 (redressal commissions, consumer rights) is a reliable scoring section — memorise the jurisdiction limits.
- The 20-mark project is internal assessment — choose a focused topic, submit original work on time, and present it confidently.
ISC Syllabus 2027 FAQs
Ques. Is the ISC 2027 syllabus the same as the 2025–26 syllabus?
Ans. Yes, the ISC 2027 syllabus is largely the same as the 2025–26 syllabus. CISCE has not announced any major deletions or additions for the 2026–27 session. Download the official syllabus PDF from cisce.org to verify the prescribed content for each of your subjects before finalising your study plan.
Ques. Which subject has the highest weightage in ISC 2027?
Ans. All ISC subjects carry 100 marks each, so no single subject carries more weight than another in the final aggregate. Within each subject, certain units dominate: Calculus in Mathematics (35–40 marks), Organic Chemistry in Chemistry (25–30 marks), and Management Functions in Business Studies (35–40 marks). Focus on the high-weightage units within each of your chosen subjects.
Ques. Is NCERT enough for ISC 2027 Science subjects?
Ans. NCERT is the necessary foundation for ISC Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, but it is not always sufficient on its own. The ISC syllabus goes slightly deeper than NCERT in areas like Coordination Compounds, Organic reactions, and wave optics. Use NCERT as your primary source and supplement with ISC-specific textbooks such as Nootan Chemistry and M. L. Aggarwal Mathematics for complete coverage.
Ques. Where can I download the official ISC 2027 syllabus PDF?
Ans. Download the official ISC 2027 syllabus from cisce.org. Go to the Publications section, click Regulations and Syllabuses, and select ISC. The PDF covers all subjects in a single document. CISCE does not charge any fee to access or download the syllabus.
Ques. Which chapters are most important in ISC 2027 Mathematics?
Ans. Integration, Differential Equations, Matrices and Determinants, Probability, and Coordinate Geometry (Circles and Conics) are the most important chapters in ISC 2027 Mathematics. Calculus as a whole — covering Limits, Derivatives, Integrals, and Differential Equations — contributes approximately 35–40 marks out of the 100-mark paper.
Ques. Has the ISC Business Studies syllabus been revised for 2027?
Ans. No. CISCE has not announced any revision to the ISC Business Studies syllabus for 2027. The content for the 2026–27 session remains the same — covering management principles, financial management, marketing management, and consumer protection. Check cisce.org for any mid-session updates.
Ques. How many units are in the ISC 2027 Business Studies syllabus?
Ans. The ISC 2027 Business Studies syllabus covers 16 units divided across three parts: Part I (Nature and Organisation of Business — Units 1–5), Part II (Principles and Functions of Management — Units 6–12), and Part III (Business Finance and Marketing — Units 13–16). The theory paper carries 80 marks and the project carries 20 marks.
Ques. What are the best books for ISC 2027 Chemistry?
Ans. For ISC 2027 Chemistry, use NCERT Class 12 Chemistry (both parts) as your primary text for Physical and Organic Chemistry fundamentals. Supplement with ISC Chemistry by Nootan (Nageen Prakashan) for ISC-specific question types and Inorganic Chemistry depth. For Organic named reactions, a dedicated reaction summary from your school notes or a revision guide is very useful in the final month.
Ques. Is Modern Physics included in the ISC 2027 Physics syllabus?
Ans. Yes, Modern Physics is part of the ISC 2027 Physics syllabus. Unit 6 covers Dual Nature of Radiation and Matter (photoelectric effect, de Broglie hypothesis), Unit 7 covers Atoms (Bohr’s model, hydrogen spectrum), and Unit 8 covers Nuclei (radioactivity, binding energy, fission and fusion). These three units together carry approximately 14–18 marks in the 70-mark theory paper.
Ques. How should I cover the full ISC 2027 syllabus on time?
Ans. With theory exams in February–March 2027, you have roughly four to five months from October 2026. Divide preparation into three phases: Phase 1 (October–November) — complete all theory chapters across subjects. Phase 2 (November–December) — revise each subject twice and solve past five years of ISC papers. Phase 3 (January) — full-length mock tests, practical preparation, and final revision. Practicals begin in January–February, so keep your practical files ready before Phase 3.
Ques. What is the passing mark in ISC 2027?
Ans. The minimum passing mark in ISC is 33% in aggregate. You must also score at least 33% in the theory component of each subject separately, independent of your practical or project marks. Securing high marks in practicals while failing in theory does not prevent a compartment or fail status in that subject.
Ques. Does ISC 2027 use negative marking?
Ans. No, ISC does not use negative marking in any subject. All papers use a positive marking scheme. If a section offers internal choices, attempt only the required number of questions. Unattempted or skipped questions do not deduct any marks from your total.
