Air Pollution refers to the release of harmful or toxic pollutants such as particles, gases, biological molecules, etc. into the air. It is known to be harmful to the health of human beings and their environment. The atmosphere is composed of a certain percentage of gases. When the percentage of the composition is increased or decreased, the gases become harmful to our survival. This results in an increase in the Earth’s temperature which is also known as global warming. There are two types of pollutants in the atmosphere, primary pollutants, and secondary pollutants. 

Primary pollutants are the ones that cause air pollution directly such as sulphur dioxide. Secondary pollutants are the ones that are formed by the combination and reaction of primary pollutants with each other such as smog, which is formed by smoke and fog.

Some of the causes of air pollution include the burning of fossil fuels, agricultural activities, mining activities, etc. Air pollution has hazardous consequences as it can lead to acid rain, ozone layer depletion, and global warming. It can be controlled by some of the following measures:
