Molarity is defined as the number of moles of a solute that is being dissolved per liter of the solution. It is the unit of measurement of the moles present in the solution.
Or, it is defined as the number of moles of a solute that are present in 1 liter (1000ml) solution. Molarity is dependent on temperature.

It can be stated as if a substance 'a' is dissolved in a substance 'b'. then the number of moles present is ‘na’ and ‘nb’ respectively.
Hence, the mole fraction of a and b can be expressed as:
Mole fraction of a= number of moles of a/ number of moles of the solution
Mole fraction of b= number of moles of b/ number of moles of the solution.
Hence, the equation formed for the mole fraction is expressed as:
The sum of all the mole fractions is equivalent to 1.

Molarity and molality may sound similar but they are two different terms with completely two meanings. Molarity is defined as the number of solutes present per liter of the solution. Whereas, molality is defined as the number of moles of solutes present in one kg of a solvent.
Molarity is dependent on temperature but molality doesn’t depend on temperature.

No. of moles in 1 litre water = mass of water/ molar mass of water
= 1000/18

Mole fraction of ethanol = no. of moles of ethanol/total no. of moles of the solution
But mole fraction of ethanol= 0.045 (given)
Using the values,
0.045 = no. moles of ethanol/ (no. of moles of ethanol + no. of moles of water)
0.045 = no. of moles of ethanol/ (no. of moles of ethanol + 55.55)
No. of moles of ethanol = 2.61 moles
Therefore,
Molarity = no. of moles of ethanol/ volume of solution
= 2.61 moles/ 1 liter
= 2.51 M

Ans. Molecular weight of HCl = 1*1 + 35.5 *1 = 36.5 mol/g
Molecular weight of water = 1*2 + 16*1 = 18 mol/g
Mass of HCl = 1.25 g
No. of moles of HCl = mass/ molecular weight
= 1.25/ 36.5
= 0.034 mol
Volume of solution in liters = 25/ 1000
= 0.025 Liters
Molarity = no. of moles of HCl/ volume of solution in liters
= 0.034/ 0.025
= 1.36 M
