Organic Chemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals with the study of hydrocarbons and their derivatives. The primary constituents of hydrocarbons include carbon and hydrogen.

Properties of Hydrocarbons:

  • Hydrocarbons are nonpolar which means they are insoluble in water.
  • Methane is present in gaseous form at room temperature.
  • Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons in contrast with alkenes and alkynes.
