Examples of Class 7 Chapter 9 Rational Numbers

Ques 1. Add ⅝ and 13/8.

Ans. To add two fraction of same denominator, take the common denominator out.

= ⅛ [5+13]

= ⅛ [18]

= 9/4 

Ques 1. Add 5/4 and 9/2.

Ans. To add two fraction of different denominator, take the LCM of the denominators.

LCM of denominator 4 and 2 = 4.

Then multiply the common multiple with the numerator. 

5/4 x 1 = 5/4

9/2 x 2 = 18/4

Now add the two fractions together.

= ¼ [5 + 18]

= 23/4
