Examples From Chapter 2 Linear Equations in One Variable

Ex. 1 Solve the linear equation :

\(\frac {(x-5)}{3} = \frac {(x-3)}{5}\)

Soln:

Verifying we get, LHS=RHS=1.

Ex. 2  Two numbers are in the ratio 6:5. If the sum of the numbers is 110, find the numbers.

Soln: Let the numbers be 6x and 5x respectively.

Therefore, .
6x + 5x = 110 ----(given)
∴ 11x = 110

Dividing LHS and RHS by 11, we get

(11x)/11=110/11
∴ x = 10
So, the numbers are 6x=6×10=60
and 5x=5x10=50
