Examples From Chapter 4 Practical Geometry

Ex. 1 Name the quadrilateral with all sides and angles equal?

Soln: Square is the quadrilateral will all sides of the same length and all angles equal to 900.

Ex. 2 When does a parallelogram become a square?

Soln: When all the diagonals are equal and bisect each other at right angles, a parallelogram becomes a square.

Ex. 3 Construct a parallelogram HOME with HO=6cm, HE=4cm, and OE=3cm.

Soln:

  1. In a parallelogram, the opposite sides are equal. Hence, HO = EM = 6 cm and HE = OE = 4 cm
  2. Let’s draw a line segment HO = 6cm.
  3. Keeping H & O as centers, let’s draw two arcs of radii 4 cm & 3 cm respectively meeting at E.
  4. Next with E & O as centers, let’s draw two arcs of radii 6 cm & 4 cm respectively meeting at M.
  5. Now, let’s join HE, EM & MO.
  6. Hence, HOME is the required parallelogram.
