Examples From Chapter 4 Practical Geometry

Ex.1 Construct a rhombus LEND where LN=5.6cm and DE=6.5cm.

Soln: 

  1. First, let’s draw diagonal DE = 6.5cm.
  2. Next, let’s draw a perpendicular bisector PQ (diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular bisectors).
  3. Now, taking the centre point and radius as 2.8cm, we draw N and L on PQ.
  4. Next, we join all the points ND, DL, LE, and NE.
  5. Hence, LEND is the rhombus. 

Ex.2 Construct a trapezium PQRS in which PQ||SR, ∠P = 105⁰, PS = 3cm, PQ = 4cm, RQ = 4.5cm and RS = 8cm.

Soln: 

  1. First, let’s draw a line segment QP = 4cm.
  2. Next, keeping P as the center, we construct an angle XPQ= 105⁰ and taking a radius of 3cm, we draw an arc on the angle andlabel as S.
  3. Now, keeping the radius as 8cm and the center at S, let’s draw an arc.
  4. Keeping Q as the center and radius 4.5cm, we now draw an arc intersecting the previous arc at R.
  5. Hence, PQRS is the trapezium.
