Examples From Chapter 6 Squares and Square Roots
| Ex. 1 Find the least number which when subtracted from 402 gives a perfect square. Find the square root of the number so obtained. Soln: This shows that 202 is less than 402 by 2. Therefore, when we subtract the remainder from the number, it is a perfect square. So, the least required number is 2. Therefore,
the required perfect square is (402 – 2) = 400. Hence, √400=20 Ex.2 By what number should 14700 be divided to obtain a perfect square? Find the square root of the perfect square thus obtained. Soln: 14700 =( 5× 5 × 2 × 2 × 7 × 7 × 3) = (5× 5) × (2 × 2) × (7 × 7) × 3 The factor 3 does not have a pair. ∴ The given number is to be divided by 3. 14700 ÷ 3 = 4900 √4900 = 70 |
