Octopuses are eight-armed cephalopod organisms famous for their rounded bodies, wide eyes, and eight long arms and fall under the order Octopoda. The smallest octopus measures up to 5 cm in length while the largest octopus measures up to 6 meters in length. Some octopus species came with 9 brains, 3 hearts and blue blood which makes it one of the unique creatures that exist in this world. The Snails are small creatures with no legs and a very soft body and come with a shell. The shell helps them to withdraw completely during the hydration process or in need of protection. Tapeworms are parasitic flatworms. They are parasitic internal parasites that infect humans, cats, dogs, and fish. What is Octopus?

The life of an octopus is fascinating as it is a very unique species. Egg, Larva, Juvenile, and Adult are the four stages of the life cycle of Octopus. What's more unusual about its life cycle is that the male dies soon after mating and the female dies soon after birthing the eggs.

With over 100 species, Octopus is the biggest genus of octopuses.

Octopuses are aquatic animals famous for their rounded bodies, wide eyes, and eight long arms. They may be found in all of the world's oceans, although they are most common in warm, tropical areas. Although certain species of octopuses are pelagic, meaning they dwell near the water's surface, the majority of octopuses reside on the ocean bottom. When it comes to Octopuses, reproduction or mating is a matter of life and death. A male octopus dies shortly after mating, while a female octopus dies shortly after hatching. The probability of an offspring surviving is quite low as well. Only one percent out of two lakh eggs mature into an adult. As a result, reproduction is extremely important for a species' survival. Their lifespan is likewise quite short, ranging from three to five years depending on the species. Thanks to their incredible metabolism, they develop at an incredible rate and start reproducing as soon as they mature.

The Life Cycle of the Octopus is divided into four stages: Egg, Larva, Juvenile, and Adult

Stage 1 ( Egg)

The Octopus lays eggs after fertilization has taken place. The laid egg measures up to 0.3 Cm in length. Octopus are generally selective about the place they hatch their eggs. For the most part, the eggs are laid in small holes or under a rock where they can get natural protection. The mother octopus also cleans and protects the eggs. They are very protective about the egg and keep it safe even if it costs their life. 

Stage 2 ( Larva)

The larva octopus hatches after four to eight weeks of development. Once they are hatched the struggle for survival begins as they are on their own. The hatched larvae are generally termed Octopods. They prefer to stay on the surface of the ocean. In the beginning, octopods drift in plankton before reaching the bottom of the ocean.

At first, the primary source of their food is larva lobsters, larva cabs, and larva starfish. Once this stage passes, they swim towards the bottom of the ocean and stay there. 

Stage 3 (Juvenile)

If larvae survive the initial phase of their life they reach the third stage and become an adult. At this stage, the octopus becomes juvenile which is the first sign of growth. They start to develop rapid strides. Their weight starts to increase rapidly, thanks to their continual feeding habits. At the later part of the life cycle of an Octopus, its weight is equivalent to one-third of the food it has consumed.

Stage 4 (Adult)

The fourth and final stage starts when they become mature sexually and are ready to mate. They start seeking a partner and when they find one, the mating process begins. An adapted arm, called the Hectocotylus, is used by males in order to deliver sperm to the mantle cavity of a female octopus. After successful mating, the male octopus dies leaving the female octopus to protect the eggs. The mother dies too after the eggs are hatched thus ending the life cycle of the octopus.

What are Snails?

Often regarded as one of the oldest living organisms on earth, Snails live a normal lifestyle. Stage 3 ( The adolescent Snail)

During the summer, the snails go through an aestivation period. They generally rest above the earth, on the fences, roadways, plants, and any other place they can find. The aestivation period is necessary to ensure that as little water is utilized. The teenage snails survive in this way till they reach adulthood. You may find them a bit active during summer rains however they stay in a rest mode for the most part.

Autumn is their favorite season. Snails reach sexual maturity when autumn arrives. The moist conditions during the rainy seasons make snails a bit active. After two or three weeks of first autumn rain, the snails start looking to mate. Snails that are mating are found in pairs, with the soles of their feet touching. Soon after mating, the egg-laying process begins, and the life cycle of snails begins all over again.

What is Tapeworm?

Tapeworms, also called cestode, are parasitic flatworms who need an immediate host to survive. The life cycle of Tapeworm is divided into three stages. They are made up of over 5000 distinct types of invertebrates ranging in size from 1mm to 15 meters. Tapeworms are parasitic internal parasites that infect humans, cats, dogs, and fish. Cestodiasis is an illness caused by tapeworms. The tapeworm has an extended body segment, ahead, and suckers or hooks that allow it to attach itself to the host. Tapeworms have a hard cuticle layer on their bodies that allows them to absorb food.

A grown-up tapeworm's body is called the strobili. It is made up of a series of more mature segments called proglottids. Each segment is self-contained and contains both male and female reproductive organs that produce at different rates. A new segment is constantly formed behind the head. They develop rationally as they are pushed to the posterior end. After the process is completed, Mature segments are ready to be separated from the tapeworm’s body and enter the environment. They are further consumed by orbiting mites and the cycle continues.

Stage 1 ( Eggs)
