Chandigarh Education Department has announced that all the admissions for 2020-2021 academic year will be conducted online.

This decision has been made to ensure safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The positive cases are rising by the day in Chandigarh, added to which schools are closed since March.

There are 114 schools in which about 1 lakh students are enrolled.

As per reports, Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director of School Education, has confirmed that the department will release a detailed account in terms of dates within a day’s time.

He also affirmed, “We are planning to hold the admissions process online this time.

We will display the total number of seats that are vacant in each class, and the parents will have to fill in an online form, after which counselling will be held. We might release a circular tomorrow or day after as and when it’s finalised.”

Parents who cannot access admission forms through online mode can reach out to their government schools for assistance.

As per Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, exempting certain regulations, government schools cannot reject admissions to students from classes 1 to 8.

Along with this, neighbourhood policies confirm that students can seek any neighbourhood government schools for admissions.

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, many parents wish to switch schools for their children. As a fact, the departments will hold meetings and discuss facilities to be available by July for such students.

Finally, the Government Model Senior Secondary School teacher also said, “We have been instructed that if any parent comes to the school to get the child admitted, we have to provide them admission forms ensuring social distancing.

In schools, 25% of staff is already present, along with principals. All of us are working to ensure the admission process goes smoothly.”
