Delhi University to Accept CUET Scores for PhD Admissions from AY 2023-24

New Delhi: Delhi University is all set to adopt the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) administered by the National Testing Agency for PhD admissions from the upcoming academic year 2023-24. This marks a significant departure from the traditional approach of conducting written tests and interviews for PhD admissions.

The decision was made during the Executive Council meeting, where multiple resolutions were approved, including the introduction of a five-year LLB program. According to the DU, PhD admissions for the academic session 2023-24 will be based on the CUET (PhD) 2023, as recommended by the Standing Committee of the Academic Council.

In addition to this, the committee extensively discussed matters related to DU admission and attendance for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs. The Executive Council subsequently accepted these recommendations.

Delhi University Shift to CUET for PhD Admissions

Last year, Delhi University (DU) implemented the CUET UG for undergraduate admissions, and now it will accept CUET PG for postgraduate admissions. The entrance test for PhD programs will be conducted through the national-level CUET (PhD)-2023 by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

However, the university staff in teaching and non-teaching roles will have the option to directly participate in interviews. Officials have confirmed that teaching and non-teaching staff will be allowed to attend classes and take exams without compromising their assigned office hours. These PhD regulations will be effective from the academic session 2023-2024.

DU Approves MBBS Admissions, Partition Studies Centre & ITEP Program

In addition to these decisions, the Executive Council (EC) approved the eligibility criteria and seat matrix recommendations from the Medical Science Courses Admission Committee (MCAC) for undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) courses in the academic session 2023-2024.

The admission process for the Respiratory Therapy program's MSc will also be conducted through CUET (PG)-2023. Furthermore, the resolution to establish the Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, which was previously passed during the 1014th Academic Council meeting, was also approved on June 9, 2023.

The center will focus on researching and shedding light on the lesser-known heroes and events of the freedom movement that have not yet been documented in history. Additionally, it will delve into studying and researching the incidents surrounding the partition tragedy in India.

New Centers and Programs Approved by DU Executive Council

The Executive Council meeting also approved the establishment of the Tribal Studies Centre, which will serve as a multidisciplinary hub focusing on various tribes in India. Also, the proposal for the Hindu Studies Centre, which will offer a Master of Arts program in Hindu studies was also approved.

Meanwhile, the university announced the initiation of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) course from the academic session 2023-24. This pilot project will be a four-year program.

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Mahila College, Mata Sundari Mahila Mahavidyalaya, and Jesus and Mary College of DU have obtained NCTE approval for offering the ITEP course starting from the session 2023-2024. The education department of DU, along with eight colleges currently offering the B.El.Ed course will apply for the ITEP course for the AY 2024-2025.
