Delhi University to conduct mock tests to prepare students for Online Open-Book Examinations

On Saturday, the University of Delhi (DU) declared a number of measures that must be taken by its colleges with respect to conducting online open book examinations for final year students beginning from July 1. 

Among these measures issued by Delhi University are- conducting mock tests for students, notifying students about examinations through e-mail and other modes of communication, and having students attest a pro forma that no illegitimate means are being used during the examinations. 

To the relief of students who are unable to appear for the open book exams, they will later be allowed to give written exams after the lockdown concludes.

The University has settled to engage a number of Common Service Centres (CSC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for students that are currently residing in Jammu and Kashmir and other such areas which lack the internet and hardware facility required for the online open-book examinations. 

At the CSC the students shall be permitted to use information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure resources available at the respective center for downloading and taking printouts of question papers, scanning, and uploading answer sheets on the portal.

The university’s decision has been met with rather critical opposition from several student groups and faculty who have stated their concerns about internet connectivity and even the possibility of students turning to illicit means in order to perform better in the exams.

However, the university on Saturday had issued directives to colleges on the measures to be adopted for the exams since it is the most preferable course of action in the current scenario
