DU Results to be declared soon as students seek admission abroad: Delhi HC

Delhi High Court on Tuesday (18 August 2020), directed Delhi University (DU) to speed up their result declaration process as many students have been confirmed admission to foreign universities for postgraduation.

Besides, expediting result declaration process, the High Court has also asked Delhi University to create an email ID where students can send their requests for declaring their results sooner.

Students have to send their foreign university details in which they received a provisional admission. This will help DU to directly address a request to the concerned university.

Justice Hima Kolhi and S Subramonium Prasad led High Court bench informed that Delhi University will assure the foreign university that results will be communicated at the utmost dispatch.

Delhi HC Order Explained

The Division Bench passed the order after University Counsel informed that Single Bench judge had passed an order on July 7, 2020. The order stated students obtaining postgraduation in foreign universities have to send an email to Dean (Examinations) informing the same.

This will let the university to speed up result declaration process for a particular course. In continuity with previous order, division bench passed an order directing DU to create an email ID for students to send requests.

Details to be Mentioned to Dean of Examination

Students seeking early results have to mention details like personal email ID, designation of foreign university officials to whom requests will be made along with email ID of that university.

Alongside this, Delhi University in its affidavit has to mention the tentative date within which final year results will be declared.

Release of Provisional Certificates by Delhi University

DU Counsel claimed that university will write to the concerned foreign university relating the circumstances under which final year exams were postponed. This will let students get sufficient time to provide provisional certificates.

The counsel also stated that as UGC set deadlines of September 30 for concluding final year exams, central universities have not received advisory regarding accomodating students within the first week of September.

As a fact, students’ career will be in jeopardy as they have to send provisional certificates by the first week of September.

Physical Exams to commence from September 14

The order by Delhi High Court mentions, the DU has to begin the physical examination for final year students from September 14.

The court has also asked DU to relate the status of modalities of stay or transportation for PwD students who have been left out for Open Book Exam or missed it for other reasons.

DU has to verify the number of PwD students who will be taking the physical examinations.
