Upon the revision in the UGC guidelines that had been issued earlier this week, the Gujarat government advised all the universities and higher education institutes to conclude all final semester examinations by 30th September.

The University is free to hold examinations in offline or online mode as per its convenience. UGC had released its new guidelines on 6th July instructing all universities to conduct their examinations by September end.

All the universities were also instructed by The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to comply with the guidelines of UGC compulsorily and conduct the exams. MHRD had also devised a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to all universities for the same.

Upon the release of the UGC Guidelines,  the Gujarat government had announced in a letter for all the universities, suggesting them to conduct the exams for final year students in any mode which is preferable.

The government also announced that the students seeking admission in foreign universities for higher education can take their exams online till July 30, and those who want to give the exams offline can do so till September 30.

Several students and teachers have expressed their concerns and have also actively protested the conduction of final year examinations for college and university students on social media. They believe that the conduction of examinations in the current Covid-19 pandemic is not a good decision.

Using the recent failure of Delhi University’s mock OBE papers as an example, a lot of anger has been ignited among students, who are scared of risking their mental and physical health.
