Haryana and Punjab High Court Stays HBSE Class 10 Science Exam

The Science paper of the HBSE class 10 examination has been stayed by an order from the Punjab and Haryana High Court on 29 June. The Haryana government had decided to hold the examination for students who were opting for the Sciences in class 11 in state schools.

This order was passed when NISA Education, a society of private schools in the state, filed a plea.

The society called the move discriminatory in nature, challenging multiple communications from HBSE. The Board had directed students wishing to opt for the Sciences in Class 11 to take the Science paper. It asked the concerned schools authorities to upload the consent of these students for the examination on the website by 17 June. If they failed to do so, the students’ report would be treated as zero. This move was flayed by the court.

The concerned schools also called the move of the board discriminatory, given the pandemic.

The plea also took the example of the higher and technical education departments that decided to promote students of universities and colleges without examinations. The society said that schools should also adopt the same move for students opting for the Science stream.

It was also argued that the move was a gross violation of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Disaster Management Act 2005.

The court then asked for a response from the government and the Board by 6 July. Till then, the Science examination remains cancelled. The case has been adjourned until 6 July.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the HBSE results for Class 10 will be released in July. However, the board itself has not announced anything pertaining to the results. When released, the results will be available on the official website of HBSE.
