IIM Calcutta Admission Dates 2027

IIM Calcutta MBA (PGP) 2027-29 admissions are through CAT 2026, the only accepted entrance exam for Indian candidates. CAT 2026 registration closed September 15, 2026. IIM Calcutta’s application portal is expected to open from October to November 2026, after CAT registration ends. WAT-PI rounds are tentatively scheduled for February to April 2027. For the MBAEx 2027-28, applications are currently open at iimcal.ac.in/mbaex.

IIM Calcutta Courses and Fees

IIM Calcutta offers degree-track and executive education programmes ranging from a two-year residential MBA to short executive certificates. The flagship MBA for domestic students is priced at INR 27 Lakhs with hostel accommodation included. Fee data below reflects the 2026-27 academic cycle.

The MBA fee of INR 27 Lakhs covers programme delivery, hostel accommodation, library access, and student activity charges for both years. Mess and canteen expenses are billed separately on actual consumption. NRI candidates pay INR 57.20 Lakhs under the NRI quota. The MBA Executive at INR 33.50 Lakhs is structured for senior professionals in a condensed one-year residential format. The PGDBA is a joint programme delivered across IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), admitted through a dedicated PGDBA entrance test rather than CAT.

IIM Calcutta Admission Process

IIM Calcutta MBA (PGP) 2027-29 uses a three-stage published selection process. Only CAT 2026 is accepted for Indian candidates. There is no management quota or direct admission at IIM Calcutta. Eligibility requires a minimum 50% aggregate in the bachelor’s degree for General, EWS, and NC-OBC applicants, and 45% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

Stage I applies minimum CAT percentile thresholds by category. For the OPEN category, the minimums are VARC 80, DILR 80, QA 75, and overall 85 percentile. Candidates who do not meet all thresholds are rejected at this stage. Crossing Stage I alone does not guarantee a WAT-PI call.

Stage II calculates a composite score of 85 marks: CAT score weighted at 56, Class XII marks at 15, Class X marks at 10, and a Gender Diversity Factor of 4. The top scorers on this composite receive WAT-PI invitations. Actual shortlisting percentiles for OPEN category have historically been well above the Stage I minimums.

Stage III produces the final merit list on a 100-mark scale: Personal Interview carries 48 marks, CAT score 30, Work Experience 8, Written Ability Test 8, and Academic Diversity 6. The PI is the single largest factor in final admission at 48 out of 100. Work experience is scored but not mandatory to apply.

IIM Calcutta Placements

The 60th MBA batch at IIM Calcutta achieved 100% placement in 2025. The final placement drive saw 196 recruiters extend 536 offers to 458 students. The average CTC was INR 34.23 LPA and the median was INR 34 LPA. The highest domestic offer reached INR 91.45 LPA and the highest international offer was INR 1.45 Crore.

Consulting accounted for 37.23% of total offers, led by BCG, McKinsey, Accenture Strategy, Kearney, EY-Parthenon, and Monitor Deloitte. Finance roles accounted for 21.2% of offers, with Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citi, Barclays, UBS, HSBC, BNP Paribas, and Standard Chartered among active recruiters. Technology placements featured Google, Microsoft, Ola, and Infosys Global. American Express and Mastercard led the payments sector. The top 5% of students received an average CTC of INR 73.09 LPA and the top 15% averaged INR 53.46 LPA.

IIM Calcutta Rankings

IIM Calcutta is ranked 7th in NIRF Management 2025, with a score of 77.34. This is a competitive position in a category where IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Kozhikode hold the top three ranks. On the international accreditation front, IIM Calcutta holds Triple Crown accreditation from AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS, and was the first business school in India to earn all three simultaneously.

IIM Calcutta Scholarships

IIM Calcutta PGP students are eligible for merit and merit-cum-means scholarships from major Indian corporate houses, trusts, and the Government of India. Scholarship applications are processed after joining the programme. Amounts and seat counts are determined by the respective sponsors each year and are not part of the MBA admission offer.

IIM Calcutta Campus and Infrastructure

IIM Calcutta’s campus spans 135 acres at Joka on Diamond Harbour Road, Kolkata, West Bengal. The campus is fully residential. All MBA students live on campus throughout the two-year programme and hostel accommodation is included in the INR 27 Lakhs MBA fee. Mess charges are billed separately on actual consumption.

The campus includes a central library with an extensive collection of management journals, case study databases, and digital research access. The Vikramshila student activity centre hosts cultural events, student clubs, and the annual management festival Carpe Diem. Sports facilities, faculty residences, and a dedicated Management Development Centre for executive programmes are also part of the Joka campus. The institute was established as the first national institute for post-graduate management studies in India and its Joka campus has grown significantly since 1961.

IIM Calcutta vs IIM Ahmedabad vs IIM Bangalore

IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Bangalore are the three oldest IIMs in India, all established in the early 1960s and all admitting primarily through CAT for the flagship MBA. The comparison below focuses on admission structure and selection process differences.

IIM Calcutta is the only one among the three that fully publishes its Stage II and Stage III weightage formula, allowing aspirants to calculate their composite score before the WAT-PI round. IIM Ahmedabad uses an Academic Writing Test (AWT) in place of WAT, while IIM Calcutta and IIM Bangalore both use WAT followed by PI. None of the three includes Group Discussion in the current selection process.
