IIT Madras Signs MoU with Sony India to Roll Out Free Training Program for Engineers; Apply till Jan 10

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has collaborated with Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd to launch a free of cost Training Program for Engineering Students. Interested candidates can apply till January 10, 2024.

According to a press release by IIT Madras, the Finishing School Training Program will train engineering students on topics like AI/ML, Product Security, and Computer Graphics. This is the second batch of the program and is scheduled to commence from the third week of January 2024. There is no fee for the course and the participants will be awarded stipend based on some fixed criteria. 

About 30 students will be selected by IIT M and Sony India jointly for the program. The selection will be done based on criteria such as Academic performance, Parental Income, and the student’s performance in an entrance exam on aptitude/analytical test followed by an interview. The entrance exam will be conducted at the selected centres in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Balamurali Shankar, General Manager, Digital Skills Academy – IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, said, “This program was offered in 2023 in similar technologies. Most of the students got placed in top IT/ITES organisations and start-ups. We plan to extend this program in 2024 aiming to benefit deserving learners nationwide. This initiative aims to propel them forward in their chosen career paths by addressing the gap between the knowledge and skills of graduate students and the industry’s demands.”

Who is eligible for the Training Program?

To be eligible for the training programe, applicants should have an Engineering degree in ECE, CSE & EEE degree with a minimum 60% aggregate. Also, the training is for the students who passed out in 2021-2022, and 2022-23. These students will also be eligible for the stipend. 

What After the Course Completion?

At the end of the program, Sony India will induct a few top performers following their due process. IITM Pravartak will assist the remaining students with placement in other companies by arranging for their interviews through the IITM Pravartak placement cell. These companies might offer these students full-time jobs based on their performance.
