Referring to the vacancies of seats, a faculty member of Presidency University said," There are some vacant seats in almost all subjects. We may publish another merit list on Monday to fill up the seats".
A faculty member of Jadavpur University stated that the reason behind the high number of vacant seats in some subjects is due to the admission selection process.
The university admission merit list is also based on candidates’ board examination results, making it difficult for candidates to seek admission in the college.
Usually, Jadavpur University conducts entrance examinations in order to fill up the admission seats for UG programs of the college. Students with high marks in the entrance examination and 12th board examination are more likely to be preferred for the admission process.

Another faculty member of the university added that the higher vacancies in subjects are due to online counselling sessions conducted by Jadavpur University.
Officials of Jadavpur University said, "Since the admission is being conducted on the basis of the results of the board examinations, a lot of students who fared well have made it to the top of the lists but may not be too interested in pursuing the subjects".
They further added," This is the reason there are so many vacancies after the first round of admission. Traditionally those who fare well in the board, as well as the entrance examination conducted by the university, make it to the list but this year the entrance examination could not be held due to the pandemic."
In 2020, the Jadavpur University counselling session 2020 will be conducted through online means due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Students selected through the merit list will have to appear for the online counselling session conducted by the university. The admission will be given based on first come first serve basis and merit list rank of the candidates.
