The Odisha Department of School and Mass Education has submitted a report to the High Court regarding the issue of private educational institutions charging fees in the midst of the pandemic still pending in the court, putting up to 30 percent of the fee waiver slab.
Senior department officials have indicated that 4 members who have agreed to the fee waiver at a flat rate have signed a memorandum of understanding for the fee waiver.
The officials also stated that only after the High Court issues its decision will the waiver be applicable.
According to reports, a fee waiver of 7.5 per cent has been proposed for the INR 6000 to 12000 fee slab, while a tax exemption of 12 per cent will apply for the INR 12,001 to 24,000 fee.
For a fee from INR 24,001 to INR 48,000, a 15 percent fee waiver will apply.

A fee waiver of 20 per cent will apply for a fee from INR 48.001 to 72 000 followed by a fee waiver of 25 per cent from INR 72.001 to Rs, 1.00 and 26 per cent from INR 1.00 000.
According to the fee waivers, residential schools will be granted a 30 per cent exemption from hostel fees.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, parents and students asked the respective schools and colleges to waive fees since the pandemic caused a lot of financial losses.
As a result, state governments have asked schools and colleges to reduce the student fees during the pandemic period and to provide students with buffer time to pay the fee.
