All 613 functional DIETs in the country will be upgraded into DIETs of Excellence in a phased manner in the next five years.
New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for continuation of the revised Samagra Shiksha Scheme till March 31, 2026. The centre has sanctioned a total funding of INR 2,94,283.04 crore for this project including a Central share of INR 1,85,398.32 crore.
What is Samagra Shiksha Scheme?
The Samagra Shiksha scheme is an integrated scheme for school education covering the entire gamut from pre-school to class XII. It was launched in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal for Education (SDG-4). The scheme not only provides support for the implementation of the RTE Act but has also been aligned with the recommendations of NEP 2020 to ensure that all children have access to quality education with an equitable and inclusive classroom environment which should take care of their diverse background, multilingual needs, different academic abilities and make them active participants in the learning process.
A detailed report of activities carried out from January 1st, 2023, to December 31st, 2023 showcased the successful implementation of the scheme. 36 states/UTs have implemented Vidya Pravesh scheme . It is a three months play-based ‘School Preparation Module’ for grade I students and a total 1,01.84,529 students (71.9%) from 8,45,128 schools (96.3%) were covered under this project.
The Veedya Sameeksha Kendra has been set up at the national level at NCERT, CBSE and in 12 states and UTs. According to the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, 613 functional DIETs in the country will be upgraded into DIETs of Excellence in a phased manner in the next five years.
A special focus has been placed on inclusive education for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), with provisions for their enrollment, support, stipends, aids, and appliances, home-based education, and resource support through special educators. This emphasis reflects the government's commitment to ensuring a more inclusive and accessible education system for all.
