Tamil Nadu: NMC increases 875 Seats to Medical Colleges for MBBS Course; Check Seat Matrix Here

Tamil Nadu has raised the number of seats for MBBS candidates in medical colleges of the state. The authority has increased the total number of seats by 875.

Earlier, National Medical Commission (NMC) granted permission for setting up 3 new medical colleges including Bharat Medical College, Indira Medical College and Hospital, and Panimalar Medical College Hospital and Research Institute. Moreover, the government also allowed 6 established colleges to add seats for the course.

Among the 3 colleges, Bharat Medical College is set to add 150 seats for MBBS aspirants. The addition will take place in the current academic session. Similarly, Indira Medical College and Hospital situated in Thiruvallur has accepted the decision and has raised the number of seats by 150.

Panimalar Medical College Hospital and Research Institute situated in Banaveduthottam has also granted acceptance to add the MBBS seats by 150. Hence, out of the total 875 additional seats, 450 are added to the 3 newly approved colleges. The counselling process for 2 colleges will start soon.

Previously 6 colleges were also granted permission for adding seats to the existing pool. These colleges are Kanyakumari Medical College, ESIC College (KK Nagar), PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute, and Vinayaka Mission Kirupananda Variyar Medical College (Salem).

Out of these 6 colleges, 25 seats are added to ESIC College while 50 seats will be increased in Kanyakumari Medical College.

Apart from this, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, and Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute raised the seat bar by 100. The remaining 50 seats will be added to MBBS seats in Vinayaka Mission Kirupananda Variyar Medical College.

With the revised seat matrix in the state colleges, the scenario is such that the total number of medical colleges is 52 with approximately 8000 seats. Out of these 8000 seats, 3650 seats are of government colleges and institutes.
