K Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to let competitive exams for central government jobs be held in regional languages. Mr. Rao said that this would benefit everyone immensely as India is a diverse country with many languages. As such not everyone knows a uniform language.

Mr.Rao addressed a letter to Mr. Modi on November 19 and said as of yet, nearly all the competitive exams for jobs in central PSUs, defense, railways, national banks, and central government are held only in Hindi and English.

Thus, applicants who are not familiar with either of those languages face immense difficulty when sitting for such exams. This could lead to many talented candidates being rejected and could cause talent loss.

According to Mr. Rao, this would only harm the nation in the long run and is counterproductive for the growth of any organization. If applicants would have the choice to give the exams in their regional languages, then the truly deserving applicant would get selected.

He wrote in the letter that this is a necessary requirement to ensure that everyone gets equal and fair opportunity regardless of their knowledge of a particular language. As such he requested the exams be held in major regional languages to provide a fair ground to all students.

In another separate letter to the President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovid, Mr. Rao requested him to release the commemorative stamp of the former Prime Minister P V Narshimha Rao during his visit to Telangana for an annual southern sojourn. The center had been planning to release the commemorative stamp for a while now.

According to Mr.Rao, releasing the stamp in Telangana would be a great tribute to Narshima Rao since he himself hailed from the state. He was not only a great reformer and a multi-faced leader but also a pioneering economist who initiated the biggest reforms of the country.

Mr. Rao said that no place other than Telangana could be a more fitting site to honor the former Prime Minister for the contributions he made to human resource development in the country and the international relations that he developed with other countries.
